A cursory reading of any of these shows a wide diversity of opinion. Is exceptionalism religious-based? Constitutionally founded? Held in the projection of American power abroad? Economic? Social? 

Part of the discussion (battle?) may be over its very definition.

I preface this by saying im not a supporter...but if his history shows anything, he will do whatever he thinks the people expect him to do...like he did in Mass. and what he did to get the GOP support.  My guess he will become more middle of the road, reflecting the country's mixed goals, if he becomes president.  In Mass his legacy was Romneycare.  The question is, what will his new legacy issue be?  I would guess fixing the economy, but at what cost?  More deficits or more divide among the haves and have nots?

As I said, I really dont think he has a personal agenda, like getting rid of abortion, rounding up all the terrorists....
