For goodness' sake - she's such a target. If she were obviously effective then you should argue to keep her in front.
OTOH, the GOP have generated such a momentum of anti-Pelosi propaganda, why let it continue? Pick someone else and make them start all over again with a different chant.
It would be such a strategically stupid maneuver - and if she were smart, she'd know that already. Take a back seat, let the rage die down, and get someone else up there do take the reins.
"Surely, surely the left wasn’t about to re-coronate the most unpopular major politician in the country as the face of their caucus, not right after the biggest election landslide in decades. And yet, here we are. Short of Obama walking up to the podium on Wednesday and flipping the bird to the cameras, I can’t think of a clearer way to signal that Tuesday’s message has emphatically not been received."
..
"Honestly, in a year dominated by fiscal conservatism, anti-incumbent sentiment, and hostility to all things Beltway, I can’t think of a more perfectly tone-deaf gesture than this. The next time some sneering liberal has the balls to tell you that the GOP is “out of touch” and doesn’t listen to voters, you need only whisper the magic word to shut them up tight: “Pelosi.” I’ll leave you with this famous line from a very famous movie, which I thought of as soon as I heard the news today. Not quite as good as “the definition of insanity” bit quoted above, but apt nonetheless: “If it was anybody else, I’d say what’s going to happen to you would be a lesson to you. Only you’re going to need more than one lesson. And you’re going to get more than one lesson.”
Bring it, San Fran Nan!
Running for is not the same as winning the position. Her odds are good with much of the carnage inflicted upon her Party taking out moderate Members. The remaining Democrats in The House are decidely more liberal by number alone. The better move if I were advising Democrats in The House would be to go with Rep. Hoyer, D-MD. He's a moderate, he's likeable and he can reach out to others on both sides. On the other hand, I do not underestimate the now increased liberal bend of House Democrats to make a finger flip to the public by electing Speaker Pelosi to remain as their voice, a voice rejected just last Tuesday.
I think many Democrats believe that for the past two years she has pursued her own agenda which has not necessarily been the same as the President's. For my money, she is the quintessential old time pol, à la Boehner. Perhaps that is all we can expect to see in the current climate but I would hope for more statemanship in the new leadership.
That wouldn't really explain why she is reviled by the voters, most of which, IMHO, don't really care about agendas, especially where it diverges with the White House. Votes are more focused on local and pocketbook issues: jobs, taxes, and so on.
That said, it would not take a lot to rise above the fray. But - is that what the minority leader is? Does she serve a better role as hatchet man?
Probably because she votes to pardon the criminal GW Bush, support wars, torture, the Patriot Act and is a limousine (phony) liberal. Do some digging on her real record, not just what the boob tube tells you.
So, what is it exactly that people don't like about NP? I think that she has admirably fulfilled her role, but, of course, I am a Democrat. Why is she so vilified?

I'm not a fan of Pelosi, but when your job description amounts to 'Cat Herder', there's only so much you can do. I doubt ANY majority/minority leader in the House could be universally beloved.
You're right, no House leader will be universally beloved but the Dems should try to find someone who is not nearly universally reviled.

You're wasting your time. This is similar to the "what Republican leader has the intelligence, charisma, background, and support to become a better President than Obama in 2012" question. There is no answer, only anger and name calling.
Nancy Pelosi has announced that she will run for House minority leader. Since she is the embodiment of what voters don't like about Democrats in Washington, House Democrats will get what they deserve in 2012 if they elect Pelosi minority leader.
