While having a snack break earlier, I watched a little news. They showed todays McCain stump speech and todays Obama stump speech. Both were criticizing the other's plans, and talking about their own direction. A lot of similarities in their approach. But McCain's crowd kept booing and booing when Obama was mentioned. (When the Obama crowd booed at one remark in NH, he said, "Don't boo, Vote!") The Obama crowd would shout "Yes we can" when he talked about supporting the middle class and the workers.

It sounds like the typical drunk asshole at his kid's T-ball game yelling at the other team's batter! ( Now that's some bad sportsmanship. )

A local dem state rep candidate stopped by my driveway while I was washing the car. She asked to put a couple Rep signs on my lawn, and we chatted a while. We had so much in common and so many agreements about how to solve our countries problems.
We care about poor people and troubled people. We care about ecosystems and species and the planet. We want the generations after us to have beauty and nature and clean energy and community. We care about education and like having leaders who are smarter than us. We think it's awesome when Obama uses big words that even we don't understand. We love that he knows how to use the internet, and all kinds of geeky new forms of communication. So many things to be proud of.

A dem strategist was interviewed in the news program. She was gracious and articulate. Her message was positive about Obama, she didn't take the interviewer's bait... he was trying to get her on the defensive about McCain's negative ads. She just talked about her faith in the American people to see past those tactics and look at the issues and the policies and choose which direction they want to go.
I got a letter today from my Rep, Paul Hodes (a Dem), responding to my phonecalls to his office regarding the Bailout. He gave an impassioned and thoughtful explanation of why he did not vote for the Bailout. I was so proud of both our House Reps for voting NO. The letter was a form letter, but I loved his reasoning. I didn't get any response from the 2 Rep Senators of course.
Yesterday, while driving the teen to a party, I passed an intersection — kind of off out on a highway, with no buildings around even — and there was a big group of Dem and Obama supporters there with signs waving at passers by. They were cheerful and fun. Groovy-looking folks that I know I would enjoy chatting with, and I wished I had time to stop.
Yep, I feel great pride in the party I'm supporting right now. Especially the grass roots supporters. Most of my very favorite people are Dem supporters. (Not all of them... I have some beloved folk who are diehard Repubs). But this feels great to be amongst the group that has shown some success in taking the high road. I'm not naive to the problems in Congress. But I'm going to enjoy all the good I'm seeing amongst the Dems, and encourage this good direction to foster and grow.
Pride in the name of love, Rose.
