The technology agreements are part of establishing nexus in China for manufacturing and access to the local markets. The internet companies you listed above generally have firewall issues with Chinese consumers. If you won't let folks use new technologies, copy those technologies and allow them monitored use inside the firewall. The tech companies don't share their technology with anyone...China is no different.
The theft of US IP comes when you can buy exact replicas of products made to the same specifications without any compensation for the inventor, who decided it was better to make short term profits with low-cost labor than to protect their trade secrets and lose market share to the competition...who were in China. China didn't become the leader in solar technology by creating the industry, they took US IP, invested billions in cheap labor and research, and destroyed the companies that seeded the industry but could no longer compete. There are US manufacturers, but even with the 30% tariff, they struggle to compete. The result is higher solar costs for everyone and more fossil fuel usage. Complex problems that can't be solved by one person with a tweet.
The Chinese are not forcing American consumers to buy Chinese exports.
The Chinese are not forcing American companies to share technology. The American companies are VOLUNTARILY signing technology sharing agreements.
The USA was not forced out of the Trans-Pacific Partnership freer trade deal. President-elect Trump volunteered to rip up the deal.
The Chinese are not forcing President Trump and many democrats to deliberating mislead and lie about trade and investment.
If you did not know:
The anti-Chinese rhetoric coming out of many corners of the USA is similar in nature to the anti-Jewish rhetoric that was popular in the early part of the 20th century.
Any everyone shops at Walmart and Amazon, yet complains that small business and Main Street are dying.
People don't really care about Chinese policy, they care about their own well being. A huge part of that is jobs, and with all of the manufacturing gone overseas (to support lower prices that all Americans like) someone needs to be blamed. Can't blame myself, so we'll blame the Chinese.
To your point about the corporate movements, there are now some industries where you have no choice but to manufacture / source from/in China. Entire supply chains for US companies are in China. It's a huge 30-year problem that even the chosen one can't fix quickly. Tweeting the idea du jour about how to fix it only makes it worse.

I just think he's an idiot, and he thought it was self-mocking - but he doesn't get how much the majority of the company dislikes what he's doing and the media will look at anything to comment on. (Sorta like how a different faction went after Obama's tan suit.) A smart man would tread lightly, but Trump isn't that guy.
Regarding noise/signal ratio - I think that good reporters need to name the real issues, ask him substantive questions. And, those voters trying to evaluate the effects of his Presidency need to ignore his version of the Tan Suit and focus more on how he and his team are destroying the culture of the nation with laws, policies, appointments to office. He'll be gone (soon?) but what he gets done today will continue to effect everyone long after he takes the money and runs.
I agree...its bad. Your last comment about take the money and run struck me. I think he knows he's going to jail when this ends, which is adding to his pressure and causing some of the behaviors. I happen to believe that Robert Mueller is the smartest guy in the room and that he and his team have provided the SDNY and others with criminal details. If you can't charge a sitting President, wait until he's not President. There is more to the story than just being an idiot. He's many things....but I wouldn't call him an idiot.
That "chosen one" thing is just him acknowledging that someone needed to take on China, and he got put in this role as President, so it's up to him. He's just a stumblebum and a bad President, but this is just simply him not properly choosing his words as he tries to explain what happened.
For the press to make it into "he's psychotic! OMFGWTFBBQ!?!" just makes them look bad, and they need to stop focusing on it and get back to the substance: recession, deficit, voting rights, infrastructure, health care, gun massacres, etc.
That would all be reasonable if he hadn't looked to the heavens while saying it. He also referred to himself as the "second coming" in the same Q&A.
I agree that China's policies need to be corrected, but to date he has delivered nothing. Corporations in the US are the beneficiaries of Chinese practices, have they been punished? No, the only thing he's done to them is lower their taxes (while increasing the debt). Calling out a problem isn't fixing it.
Your comment suggests that if he could stop dealing with noise, he could work on real domestic issues. The distractions are A) generated by him, and B) intentional. He has flopped so many times on background checks he can't remember what Wayne told him to say. 90% of all Americans (including his base) agree with background check changes. He and Mitch won't address it, because they're owned by gun money. He's losing Republicans in PA, VA and MI because of it. Biden is going to crush him in those states....Joe Biden?!?!
He doesn't have the attention span to address issues of substance, and he knows it. Everyone's talking about a terrible week on Wall Street.....Maybe we'll buy Greenland. Getting back to substance is NOT something he cares to do.

We now have the answer. Trump said at his impromptu press Q and A today that he believed the statement by the Denmark PM calling the idea of Denmark selling Greenland to the U,S, “absurd” to be offensive to America.
Any word, deed, or thought that doesn't in some way, shape, or form include puckered lips to one orange ass is insulting to America, evidently.
If you watched yesterday's White House lawn Q&A, you almost have to wonder if we're being Punk'd.
The only thing left is for him to admit this has all been a reality TV show to see just how much insanity he could share before someone called his bluff. 2.5 years and counting. He's going to release (Jan 22, 2020) the "behind the scenes" video on his new streaming network. Only then will we see what Ivanka has been up to, serving as host for the 4000 hours of video.
Liquor stocks as a bet on the impending bear market. I see the appeal though alcoholic beverages are apparently income elastic. The more income you have the more you spend on alcohol. Income declines, alcohol consumption declines.
Pot stocks could be spun as offering a bear market anxiety cure. If you can stomach the risk.
So, a guy who's mental state is highly questionable, who's narcissism is epic, and who's empathy is non-existent has access to nuclear weapons.... and many people are okay with all of this. I need to invest heavily in liquor stocks.
That's because (despite his history of self-serving behavior and his lack of support for the "little guy") the little guy/gal believes that the nukes/weapons/military/police are all being used to support them.
And, I suspect, for them to rethink that now based on his actions is literally impossible.

right, but then the media immediately goes with the headline that he only cancelled because he was insulted....not the possibility his only intention to visit was to discuss the absurd proposition to discuss greenland. If the latter is the truth, then it would be "logical" to cancel the trip. But again, absurd to consider the sale of greenland, especially via a tweet.
I was basing my initial post on that one article; I guess it depends on which news outlet. The NY Times headline is more about Danish "bewilderment and anger" over his cancellation, not his possible motivations. The BBC says it's "amid a spat" over the sale - which seems to suggest it was because he felt insulted. Others are somewhere in between, generally citing Denmark's surprise or displeasure. Other than the BBC piece, I haven't seen a headline from the so-called "MSM", which suggests he cancelled the trip because he felt insulted. I'm not denying they're out there; I just hadn't seen one.

The Shyster-in-Chief just redirected attention from the legal actions re: His Tax Returns, the serious NRA/Gun issues, and his inability to get ANYTHING done. He's a major con man supported by dimwits.
Might be time to call my good friend Kim. Summit 3! Maybe he could hold it in Manila, and get Duterte to play host? Sadly though....I think Kim has run out of upside.
Africa is a $***hole, the Euros aren't being nice, China won't play ball, the South Americans are busy stopping the invaders.... Is it time to stop in on BeBe?
Can't get anything done? Now there's talk of a payroll tax cut to get more money into people's pockets for the holidays. That seems to only help build a perfect storm of tax payments, economic slowdown, and market correction before the election next year. All those in favor........
In case you missed it. The absurdity of Trump's comments is truly outstanding.
Incidentally, for those of you who have zero understanding of how diplomacy works, normally senior civil servants work out an understanding before elected officials discuss it in public.
