That probably would not have been funny, no I would say not. However, since he did not have a heart attack, it was funny as hell!{#Roflol}
You know, I could understand that some of you might think that I do not take any of this seriously. Those that think that are nothing but astute.{#Lol}

Been watching the questioning of the Murdoch's (on CNN) in Parliament and I am very impressed by the conduct of the panel.  Much different than a US Congressional hearing.

I cannot tell the political allignment of the questioners based upon the questions.  Perhaps its because I have no local knowledge of who these people are.  But clearly there are no leading political statements prefacing the actual question as we would have here in the States.

This is most refreshing and I can only hope that our Congress could learn to conduct hearings in this fashion.

  Sure, but it's more likely Congress will learn how to conduct open discussions more like MPs. Just sayin'.

You should have kept watching. Murdoch just got a pie in the face! Some protestor ran in and had a paper plate of shaving foam and threw it in rupert murdoch's face shouting 'GREEDY'!! No kidding. Murdoch's wife gave the attacker a right hook. So funny!

I think what is the biggest threat for FOX is the Foreign Corrupt Practices Act of 1977 (FCPA), which makes it a high crime if U.S. companies and their foreign subsidiaries pay bribes to foreign officials... Murdoch's company News Corp is based in the USA, and Murdoch is a citizen of the USA, so if Murdoch's subsidiaries bribed any police in Great Britain, then this seems more ominous for News Corp in the courts than what is grabbing the headlines right now about them hacking 9/11 victims—

FBI to probe Murdoch's company over Sept. 11 allegations... this is a public relations nightmare for them... Americans are not going to forgive them for picking on 9/11 victims...

but I would guess that the Foreign Corrupt Practices Act will cause them much more hot water in the courts...

This where we can take on the Corporations, if someone has the guts to.  The FCPA is what keeps the US and US businesses from lowering ethical standards when doing business in a foreign country that has different ehical standards or none at all.  We are required to use ours where ever we go and honor local ethics that do not conflict with ours.  This is still taught in international business courses and ethics courses in a basic business degree program here in the US.

I am sure if we looked real hard at another company, GE for example, we could find business practices that could be subject to criminal proceedings.  A $5 Billion profit and no taxes paid has got to have something untoward involved somewhere.  Maybe aquisitions of properties in India ?

The FCPA forces us to take the high road where ever we go.  Many say this puts the US at a disadvantage in the international market place.  It does.  But we are the reason that there is still free enterprise in the world.

Don't tell me to fuck off then.

Dance around it all you want but in the context of what has been deemed 'politically correct' for the forum by a small group of 'moral guardians' ( we all know who they are), serious discussions of certain subject matters is just not going to happen. The fact that RP has become such a sterile environment for proper discussion is probably why Drach, Dio & others split.
I know its why I split.

hj has got a fair point.

A lot of this stuff spilled over to the non political threads and pissed a lot of people off and legitimately.  And there were more than a few others who did that besides you.  I think that is what pissed people off the most, maybe even more than the name calling.

You have a point with the political correctness.  We all know how to spell fuck.  Let's save it for when we are really pissed instead of trying to piss off people.

In case you hadn't noticed, after all your injection of reptiles and what not, you do have a few people nodding.  You have argued your points 8 ways to Sunday.  People do lurk and read things and not post replies.  The world is fucked up and coming apart at the seams.  I think everybody sees that and agrees regardless of which side of the fence they sit on.  At least we have that accomplished.

We are all that is left here.  I keep looking a couple of times a week to see how many people post here in the threads.  The count has dropped maybe 10% to 15% over the past 6 months.  Granted FB has taken a lot of people away.  We were around a long time before FB was even thought of.  So let's save what we have left here and savor it.

I don't want to go to FB and have every thought I dare to share kept on a hard drive somewhere with access to its contents sold to the highest bidder for what ever nefarious purpose, including the government.  We have a private enterprise operating this place, without invasive cookies and programs tracking our every move.  Sure when we go off site to a sponsored link, we leave a trail that kicks Bill some coin in the process.  That is voluntary and we can dump our caches and end it at that moment.

Go Huffpost or Hot Air ?  Look at the shit flying in there in the comments and also those are being closely watched by everyone who makes money by selling bytes.  Here we have the unique opportunity to basically self moderate, discuss anything if we can find a way to do it civilly and ask for help and offer help to real people.  We all know who each other in here is by now.  We aren't hiding behind cute anonymous usernames.  They have become our handles because we have been here for a long time.

Look at the trades, professions, skills and hobbies there are here.  When was the last time anyone had the opportunity to argue and talk politics or just hang out with an MD, a lawyer, entrepreneurs, cubicle workers, human resource, writers, musicians, ad infinitum, without being one of them yourself ?  Look at the quality of thread jacks we have here, no better exist anywhere else.  And look at the age span here.  The wisdom of age and the innocence of youth.  And the global span of this little community.

And let's not over look the value of this community when the shit does hit the fan.  As long as the net is up and we can log in here, somewhere in here, the truth can be found.  Someone will find it and post it.

So in the honor of your passionate and belligerent exhibitions of your cause to seek and reveal the truth, whether we want it or not, you have already found what you seek.  A place where somewhere the truth does exist.

Furthermore, if we stay within the confines of these certain threads and keep it from spilling over to inappropriate threads, we do not draw attention to our discussions or scare off people who get it and can join in.

The political threads should be like Vegas, what happens here, stays in here.  And as we all know, everything happens in Vegas.  Vegas is a place where the users are still not diminished by the abusers.

That was then, this is now. My commentary focuses largely on social conditions rather than any individual. If its offensive social behaviour I'm commenting on I'm likely to voice my disgust. If an individual sees themselves as the target of that disgust then I must wonder if they feel that they're in some way complicit with the condition I'm commenting on. If so maybe they need to do some soul searching but my intention is not to target them....or maybe it is ? I know how people are. I have no expectations.
