Could stabilising population growth help us reduce greenhouse gas emissions? And what role do vasectomies play in the future of contraception? These are just some of the topics experts will be discussing in RiAus 's World Vasectomy Day live stream. For those who aren't grossed out by blood, there will also be 17 LIVE vasectomy operations performed. The whole-day live stream starts in an hour and a half!
As long as there are religions that preach the edict "Go forth and multiply", in one form or another, we are not going to begin to address this problem. Unless of course, the gorvernment steps in, as in China, but who wants that to happen? Left to its own devices, nature itself will sort out the problem, and no, it won't be pretty.
at one time i might have had that same thought...but not anymore
The population of North and South Dakota plus the population of Wyoming and Oklahoma and Idaho might be getting close to half the population of Ohio. They better do some serious banging to catch up with these yokels.
Oh I know you've got it far worse up there, but there's still way too many folk out here for my likin'.
Have you been out here lately? These rednecks have been breeding, pops.

Have you just driven west, or north west of where you are? For the life of me I can't figure out why we killed all those indians. There's still nothing out there.

That, and there's just damn near no place left to go where I can get away from people.

The Wikepedia Overpopulation page has a nice discussion and summation of the various arguments and positions put forth by population optimists and pessimists. I for one don't share L8's optimism. Even if we could never approach planetary capacity, getting close enough seems to be bringing on (or will bring on) issues such as food insecurity and others that make this planet inhospitable for way too many people.
