We'll get it back in June/July when we really want it. I try to look at it as a recreation time savings bank. We can take off with the boat after work and have 5 hours of daylight to get somewhere!

Since I have a lot of time on my hands...I noticed the other day the differences in the length of day from coast to coast...Here in San Antonio the day today is going to be 10hrs and 15 minutes long...I have a friend in Maryland and her day today will be 9hrs and 29 minutes long...BHD's day in Pete is only going to be 8hrs and 20 minutes long with the sun setting at 4:20, no really, in the afternoon...She and Islander are being gypped out of almost 2hours of daylight in comparison to here. You are correct. In practice though, it's really March before I feel like the days are getting longer.

This week and next, we'll be closing the ski area in twilight, but by mid-January it's not so creepy-cool.

As I remember my celestial mechanics while the solstice is the shortest day it is neither the latest sunrise nor the earliest sunset.  Those days vary with latitude and I think (though I'm not going to look it up) that sunrise is still coming earlier for a week or two while sunset has been coming later since late November or early December.
