( that's quite a reach back!  took a bit to pull it all together - seems we all remember different things!)

Anyone who aligns their headlamps that often must have something wrong with them.

Lawrence. His birthday was in February and it was a sunny but frozen one for him. I stopped by with a special little cake and played Happy Birthday for him on my Harmonica.
The card had a train and something about old number 97 coming down the track.

Lawrence had a large house and he had ceased using the front half and upstairs. They remained reposed and measured against the grandfather clock against a living room wall and long sense silent. He used the back entry to his house which had the kitchen, a small bedroom, and the den where he watched his television or listened to his sermons and gospel music on the radio. It was the same room where he took care of his wife until she died from cancer some years earlier.
I remember him showing me his giant recliner from the70's. It was so worn out that he packed phone books under the back upholstery to perfectly tune his chair to all his twists and nobs. He was a marvel to me, just listening to him speak.

As he sat I noticed a large bandage on his shin where he had scraped it somehow, and had been keeping Vaseline Intensive Care lotion on it. He told me it had been giving him trouble as I looked at the wound and I hid my concern.
It was definitely infected and as it was already a couple of weeks old I knew his unique home wound care was not going to work. I called his son, a super nice 74 year old man, and gave him the scoop. I was worried, knowing how this can go really fast when you're old, much less ancient...

Do you get along with your neighbor?

I'm with you on this.
I strive to be a good neighbor. Seeing both sides of conflicts and try to defuse difficult situations.

I didn't care for the do dad's added to the bikes later... sissy bars, fenders, shifters.
They just got in the way.
I prefer the basic bare bones Sting Ray I have.

I never got the wheels either.  I spent my money on a drum set (with a friendly, low-interest loan from mom).  Then sold them both for a moped (in retrospect, a shockingly poor decision).

I think the worst one for me... besides the huge face plant I did in '64 (That wasn't my fault though. Some girl let her bike go into mine. I went into the pavement hard. Had to have one of my permanent front teeth removed. )
The biggest one was in '70 (I was in high school at the time. Still on my original, trusty Schwinn Sting Ray from '63.)
We had all the guys in the neighborhood challenging each other to different contest. One particular evening... the contest was to see who could ride the longest wheelie without peddling. What could go wrong? Well... I was dominating. BUT I just had to go a bit further. This involved pedaling as fast as you could for a big top speed. Then pulling the front tire up and riding it as long as you could. I ended up going too far back
I was barefoot, of course. But my knees took the brunt of the fall.  They both were a blood

y mess.My mom gave me a long lecture after that one. My Sting Ray.
I've since got the correct front tire for it.
