Just bought an AWD turbo diesel Passat Wagon - Pissant 2.0. Considering the places I took my previous two wheel drive petrol turbo where I really shouldn't have, it will be nice to have a bit more security buffer. I'm cognisant of the saying that 4WD just means you get stuck in worse places. If it makes it easier to navigate the tracks into my kayak launching spots, I'm happy.

Even with the AWD, the fuel efficiency is much better than my petrol one. Won't have quite the acceleration, though. But enough.

My brother had one of those... but was forced to sell it back to VW in the whole Audi/VW diesel issue.  We have a diesel SUV (that sees dirt and sand multiple times per year... and the occasional snowstorm), and it gets 50% better mileage than the gas version.  I can go 650 miles on one tank...which is great for road trips.

It's not about "doing" it... it's having the option to do it.  The psychology of believing I could traverse the Grand Canyon in my SUV is a powerful force, ignoring the fact that 98% of them don't see so much as a dirt road once a year.

Which is sad.  Dirt roads are amazing.

I enjoy my vehicles.
They aren't boring belly button cars.
And I get compliments ALL DAY LONG.
It's hard to return those back about those bland, bean mobiles they're driving.

Was poking around and stumbled on Richard Carpenter's car collection.  Pretty neat stuff he's got.  Seems to have really liked Mopar, a lot.

That's interesting. Not really surprising, but it sounds like something a simple letter-writing campaign could influence. Because everybody hates how bright headlights are these days, it seems like an easy win for any politician.
