Leigh Valentine On Trump: ‘Every Word He Speaks, I See The Hand Of God Upon It’

In addition to offering her own line of beauty and skincare products, Leigh Valentine is also the Trump-loving host of a weekly “Faith & Freedom” program on Bill Mitchell’s “YourVoice America” network. On Sunday’s broadcast, she declared that God is behind every word that President Trump speaks.

After co-host Butch Maltby asserted that no other president has ever “cultivated an environment that is so friendly for Christians” as Trump has, Valentine claimed that Trump “lights up” whenever he is around pastors because his mother instilled in him “the fear of the Lord.”

Valentine said that Trump “was taught the word of God” during his years attending church in New York and learned that “the power of God’s word does create life, it does create prosperity, it does create greatness and favor.” (...)

“He is a very, very smart man and he knows what he is doing,” Valentine insisted. “He knows the art of the deal and a lot of this is God’s deal, let me tell you.”

Vice President Pence Tells Pastors: 'Share The Gospel!'

(...) As their website states, the Watchman on the Wall conference, hosted by the Family Research Council has a spiritual mission which is the belief that the problems facing America, “ultimately require a spiritual solution administered by spiritual leadership. That is why we are championing pastors to transform America.

The conference was held at the Hyatt Regency Capitol Hill in DC and besides hearing from guest speakers, pastors also receive briefings on ways to mobilize their congregations on the political, cultural and moral issues of the day, along with tours that detail America’s Judeo-Christian heritage.

While the vice-president’s message had a spiritual tone, it also had a practical one, focusing on what the Trump administration has accomplished so far. Pence spoke of the record amount of judges President Trump has placed in the judicial branch and his bold decision to move the U.S. embassy to Jerusalem.

He received multiple standing ovations from the evangelical crowd especially when Pence declared how President Trump is the, “most pro-life president in American history…standing without apology for the unborn and the sanctity of life. That’s President Donald Trump.”

On the topic of religious liberty, Pence made clear that the Johnson Amendment, which puts certain restrictions on pastors when it comes to political involvement, is being done away with.

“We are going to fight until we fully repeal the Johnson Amendment from the Internal Revenue Code but it will no longer be enforced under this administration,” Pence says.

Christian leaders call out the heresy of Trumpism
A declaration from 23 prominent Christians doesn’t mention the president by name — but it calls ‘America First’ a ‘theological heresy.’
If “each human being is made in God’s image and likeness,” then Christians have a duty to repudiate “the resurgence of white nationalism and racism in our nation on many fronts, including the highest levels of political leadership.” A belief that “we are one body” requires opposition to “misogyny” and “the mistreatment, violent abuse, sexual harassment, and assault of women.”

Because “how we treat the hungry, the thirsty, the naked, the stranger, the sick, and the prisoner is how we treat Christ,” Christians must oppose “attacks on immigrants and refugees” and “cutting services and programs for the poor” accompanied by tax cuts “for the rich.”

The final three assertions were especially pointed about the unnamed president. Because “truth-telling is central to the prophetic biblical tradition,” Christians should stand against “the practice and pattern of lying that is invading our political and civil life.” It notes that “Christ’s way of leadership is servanthood, not domination.” This means resisting “any moves toward autocratic political leadership and authoritarian rule.”

The declaration’s most barbed conclusion comes from Christ’s injunction to “go into all nations making disciples.” This, the signatories say, demands a rebuke to ‘America First’ as a theological heresy.”

“While we share a patriotic love for our country,” they add, “we reject xenophobic or ethnic nationalism that places one nation over others as a political goal.”

Blacks more likely than others in U.S. to read the Bible regularly, see it as God’s word

For African Americans, the Bible’s Exodus narrative is a cultural touchstone. Since before the Civil War, the story of the Israelites’ slavery and deliverance has spurred comparisons to black people’s experiences in the United States. Scripture’s importance to the black population in the U.S. is reflected in Pew Research Center survey data showing that black people are more likely than most other Americans to read scripture regularly and to view it as the word of God.

Indeed, more than half of black people in the U.S. (54%) – both Christian and non-Christian – say they read the Bible or other holy scripture at least once a week outside of religious services, compared with 32% of whites and 38% of Hispanics, according to data from the 2014 Religious Landscape Study. Indeed, relatively few black people (24%) say they seldom or never read the Bible, compared with 50% of whites and 40% of Hispanics.

Among Christian groups, 61% of those who are members of the historically black Protestant tradition (more than half of all black Americans) read scripture at least weekly, similar to the level seen among those in the evangelical Protestant tradition (63%). In addition, those in the historically black Protestant tradition are much more likely than Catholics (25%) and mainline Protestants (30%) to say they read scripture at least weekly, though less likely than Jehovah’s Witnesses (88%) and Mormons (77%).

A sizable share of all black people (77%) also say the Bible is the word of God (as opposed to having been “written by men”), compared with 57% of whites and 65% of Hispanics. Among those in the historically black Protestant tradition, 85% say they believe the Bible is the word of God, a level more comparable to that seen among those in the evangelical Protestant tradition (88%), Mormons (91%) and Jehovah’s Witnesses (94%) than among Catholics (64%) and mainline Protestants (62%).

Black people overall are also more likely than people in other racial or ethnic groups to believe the Bible or other holy scripture should be interpreted literally. Roughly half (51%) of black Americans feel this way, compared with 26% of whites and 38% of Hispanics. Among those in the historically black Protestant tradition, 59% hold this view, compared with 24% of mainline Protestants and 26% of Catholics. On this issue, the views of those in the historically black Protestant tradition are more comparable to those of evangelical Protestants (55%).

Another sign of the importance of the Bible to African Americans is their participation in prayer and scripture study groups. (Our question did not distinguish between the two types of groups.) Across religions, black people in the U.S. are more likely to take part in prayer or scripture study groups at least weekly (39%) than are whites (22%) and Hispanics (27%). And people in the historically black Protestant tradition are as likely to do this (44%) as those in the evangelical tradition (44%) and more likely to do this than are Catholics (17%) and mainline Protestants (19%). They are less likely to participate in prayer and scripture study groups weekly than are Mormons (71%) and Jehovah’s Witnesses (85%).

The populations of each of these religious traditions include people of many different races and ethnicities. Even the membership of the historically black Protestant tradition is not entirely black, with 6% describing themselves differently, e.g. white, Hispanic, or from another or mixed racial background. That being said, majorities in most major religious traditions in the U.S. are white.

What surprised me most about all this was that this wasn't his first episode. If I managed the theater I'd sit him down in my office and explain that I wouldn't expect to be welcome to disrupt his church services to announce the second coming of Ace Ventura, Pet Detective and he wasn't welcome to disrupt movies to conduct his business. If he did it twice I'd get a restraining order.
