A friend is visiting with his two 10 year old children.  Both of us were commenting on how that even if we did not agree with all his policies, President Obama was a class act.  A true statesman.

Poll: Barack Obama Was the Greatest President of Our Lifetime

but the content is what's interesting. They make a very good point about "why are we where we are?" and the answer is that the Democrats can't get their act together, apparently. The whole thing has been handed to them but they keep snatching defeat from the jaws of victory.

After Reagan, around whom Republicans built a cult of personality that endures to this day, we had:

– a one-term Republican administration that left office during a recession and a nasty internal fight over “no new taxes” dogma meeting a deficit crisis;
– a two-term Democratic presidency that ended with 60 percent approval ratings;
– a failed two-term Republican presidency that ended in both foreign and domestic catastrophe and approval ratings in the low 30s;
– a two-term Democratic president who left office with 60 percent approval ratings.

Now the Republican Party under the inspiring leadership of la Trumpette has done more to fan the flames of the US cultural wars than any other single organization in US history.

I just hope folks avoid the temptation to punch the daylights out of Republican politicos.  No matter how tempting.

I'm still healing from a dinner party a week ago. A hyper-left began badgering a hyper-right and Right shoved Left over my short stone wall, possibly fracturing his knee. I was thrown to the ground when I intervened and have some bruises/abrasions that aren't much - except a reminder that the extremists are getting more extreme.

The bulk of America isn't doing this crap, being violent out of frustration, but the news wants your eyeballs and will gleefully report on it. So it will appear to the nation that we're facing chaos, collapse of the gold standard, atonal music, and more. This seeps into the minds of those who haven't yet become violent, convincing them that the only way to make their point is to attack/defend on those same, violent terms. That's what's happening with this "harass the politicians" approach. do we want that happening after 2020? Think ahead, people.

And, sadly, someone that tries to unite will just be met with obstruction by the other side, by the True Believers and the trolls and the internet kids, all of whom have no interest in helping make the world better. Think: who profits when the people are in chaos and divided, unable to mount a unified and effective resistance to authority?

Me either, not all of it anyway. Think of the implications when even educated and skilled people with good paying jobs have no more personal income. Talk about voting against your self interest.

Think about it, is this information really something that surprises independent thinkers or comforts them in any way or is it just another well you guys did it too nah, nah, nah?  The type of people that do these things and their supporters on either side are not going to be swayed by anything and everyone else just rolls their eyes and sighs.  This tit for tat is just putting on the gas when your tires are already a foot deep in mud, going nowhere. That bakery was being idiotic and the restaurant from the other day was being idiotic or if one prefers both were in their rights to do this, personally I think it is idiotic and quite frankly dangerous to the very fabric of our society to refuse service to anyone based solely upon their appearance, beliefs, gender, sexuality or whatever.  This type of action should only be reserved for inappropriate behavior or not following the establishments posted rules.  For instance if Biden had tried to cop a feel on a customers little girl, well then of course this action would be warranted.
