It glittered and it gleamed
for the arriving beauty queen
a ring and a car
now you're the prettiest by far
No party she'd not attend
no invitation she wouldn't send
transfixed by the inner sound
of your promise to be found
"Nothing or no-one will ever
make me let you down"
Kiss them for me -- I may be delayed
Kiss them for me -- if I am delayed
It's divoon, oh it's serene
in the fountains pink champagne
someone carving their devotion
in the heart shaped pool of fame
"Nothing or no-one will ever
make me let you down"
Kiss them for me -- I may be delayed
Kiss them for me -- I may find myself delayed
On the road to New Orleans
a spray of stars hit the screen
as the 10th impact shimmered
the forbidden candles beamed
Kiss them for me -- I may be delayed
Kiss them for me -- I may find myself delayed
Kiss them for me -- Kiss them for me

Always liked this one, def a unique sound that was very cutting edge at the time.
A supreme Queen legend in her time.
I'll bring this up again. The beats come from PSK What Does It Mean by Schooly D. From Philly. Where this loop came from, I have no idea, I need to research it. If any of our brainiac RP listeners know, pls drop knowledge. But yes, this is a solid 10, Sue is hot as can be, this song is a jam.
if you haven't heard it, Patti Griffin does a good cover of this. Think it's at the back half off of a song on "Silver Bells" (or whatever the official release title of that collection of songs was a few years later.)

What surprises me is how well this song has stood the test of time. When it first came out it seemed to be too rooted in time. I was wrong, it is timeless.

This has been a favorite of mine since I first heard it on MTV way back then. Still holds true.
Simply divoon ... an easy nine, plus one more for Siouxsie heself.

A more tuneful Siouxsie than I recall! Both she and I appear to to mellowed with age!

It's because Siouxsie was never following any trend. Just doing her own thing. Her, like so many others, should have been played on mainstream radio but wasn't because she was labelled as "new wave." Her writing skills, voice and band members were as good or much better than 99% of the crap on mainstream radio at the time.

I was doing a semester abroad gig in London in fall 1988. We had a walk down the Cromwell Road to our local Sainsbury's for groceries. On one trip, a friend from our building came back from another aisle ecstatic. "I just saw Siouxsie!!!" ... I didn't know who he was talking about at the time
PSK, what does it mean?
I like a lot of Siouxsie, I grew up listening to her, but this tune is bloody awful. It just drags on and on and on...

This is a song that was out prior to my music production days. Such a treat to listen to now. Intense. Clean. Talented.

These guys get a 9 because of they pushed the limits and expansion on the post punk era and i like this song.
Sorry, my 10 rating failed to elevate it's status this morning.
Our DJ loves this song and I'm alright with that!
This one deserves an eight at least forsure, for the creativity and the performance. Anythign less would be ridiculous.
Still a great song after all these years.
And suddenly I'm transported to a place and feeling from 25 years ago, rich and vivid as any dream.
I was a big Siouxsie fan...up to this album.
Love Love Love!!!

Oldfart48, If I may:
Pretty sure the "gay" is a typo for "day"
As for the content -
I consider "back in the day to be the 70's
Pretty sure Oldfart48 considers "back in the day" to be the late 50's (Think Buddy Holly, Elvis or the Big Bopper)
For some of us - Music made in the 90's is still "the new stuff"!
And by the way: I really like this new fangled stuff!!!

Could we possibly add some of her side band, The Creatures, to the general excellence of RP?
I always had the idea that a combination between Siouxsie and Schoolly D would turn out great!
This is the first Siouxsie song I ever heard, and it's still the best. Please add it to the RP playlist!

I have liked this song ever since Bill played it on the day (or day after?) Hurricane Katrina hit NOLA.
On the road to New Orleans
a spray of stars hit the screen
as the 10th impact shimmered
the forbidden candles beamed
Kiss them for me -- I may be delayed
Kiss them for me -- I may find myself delayed

Not sure of any connection, but they do indeed sound similar to each other! I like them both equally. At the risk of dating myself, I owned the cassette single of Hippy Chick -- and the 12" vinyl of Siouxsie. I might still have them stashed away somewhere....even though I have no device to play either anymore. (Okay, I'm a nostalgic music hoarder).
Just finished replacing my entire back catalogue of vinyl and cassette with mp3's. Virtually everything available from a multitude of sources, but I was quite ashamed of most of it and donated the lot to a charity shop. I have since been informed that some of my Now albums are worth upwards of 500 quid each... Boo hoo.

Is there any connection with Soho - "Hippy Chick". Perhaps a year earlier?
