It's been a long time since I did 'The Stroll'
Ooh, let me get back, let me get back, let me get back
Mm-baby, where I come from
It's been a long time, been a long time
Been a long, lonely, lonely, lonely, lonely, lonely time
Yes, it has
It's been a long time since 'The Book of Love'
I can't count the tears of a life with no love
A-carry me back, carry me back, carry me back
Mm-baby, where I come from, whoa-whoa, whoa-oh-oh-hoh
It's been a long time, been a long time
Been a long, lonely, lonely, lonely, lonely, lonely time
Ah, ah-ah, ah-ah
Hoh, it seems so long since we 'walked in the moonlight'
Makin' vows that just couldn't work right
Haw-haw, yeah, open your arms, open your arms, open your arms
Baby, let my love come running in, a-yeah
It's been a long time, been a long time
Been a long, lonely, lonely, lonely, lonely, lonely time
Yeah, hey, yeah, hey, yeah, hey, yeah, hey
Ooh, yeah, ooh-ooh, yeah, ooh-ooh, yeah, ooh-ooh, yeah
It's been a long time, been a long time
Been a long, lonely, lonely, lonely, lonely, lonely time
Well, wtf then, I suppose we ARE in really big trouble. Because this IS rock and roll, as much as the Stones, Who, Chuck Berry or Pearl Jam. A mystery as to what YOU consider REAL rock and roll.
I was there at that show too!! Great!!
Chapeau!
to learn about the various aspects of the human species ... and there could be only one example for each part of us that we'd provide ... THIS song ... for music of the past 100 years. It's not the greatest or the best, but it is the most definitive.
LMAO what a DUMBASS TOPAZ Check the average rating and sit down and stfu!
Iconic! I saw them at Madison Square Garden, September 1971, several months before this album hit the stores! ...the crowd went nuts when this song & Black Dog were played!!!! ....I had side stage seats about 20 rows away (stage right) and had a great view of the band!
I was there at that show too!! Great!!
I agree, the LZ catalog is so rich and amazing, and this doesn't do it for me. BUT, I think that may be due to the fact that classic rock radio has KILLED this song (and Stairway, Blackdog) with their constant overplaying. I swear that your average stupid Clear Channel rock station must play this song every 75 minutes. Growing up in the 1980s, this song was overplayed, and that may have killed it for me.
Yeah, but honestly, trust me, this is VASTLY more listenable on an unwanted regular basis than Bennie and the Jets, Piano Man, Rocket Man, Losing My Religion or any of a shitload of other marginally good tracks that were fully shredded corpses after 6,477 brain-dead bore-o-matic roboreplay programming bullets.
10, because it's iconic
No, we're in trouble if comments like yours are truly representative. This song is a rock and roll locomotive. Either appreciate it for the wonder it is or get out of the way.
Comments like this are indeed representative of a minority of h8 posters on this board. But fear not, there are many great music lovers to be found here.

Don't be so hard on yourself.

Ian Stewart, iirc.
IMNSHO, of course.
..Climbing up the Eiffel Tower...
Yup, this Zep tune is rock-n-roll.
Trust me-you're not the only one.
8.3 out of 1100 plus ratings hmm . if you don;'t get it it use the PSD lol Led Zep rules!
Exactly!
BTW: The folding cover is great too, in some way melancholic, showing transience. Not usual for a rock'n'roll band I think.
Trust me-you're not the only one.
I guess you aren't in the US or don't have a TV. For four years Cadillac used it in their ads and did more damage than classic rock IMO. (Yeah, I looked up the length of the campaign because it seemed longer than four years and they quit nearly ten years ago... yet the damage is done to this otherwise godlike track.)
I hear this song for the first time.
That ain't no Foo Fighters, Arcade Fires, or Smashing Pumkins.
You got that exactly right. Rhythm section shakes the walls on this one. As for Jimmy and Robert, what can you say? Just great rock and roll.
hahahaha

Do you suppose there are people who hate rock and roll and don't know it ? Perhaps
catholic school, drunken parents, their only vehicle was a Rambler, horrible breath, involuntary virginity,
what ? what ? WHAT !!! could be the variable that would cause 2.1% of listeners who rated this,
to give this song a one (1) ?
"Get thee to a nunnery ! "
at least for the moment!
OFF TOPIC! Sailors, here's a video set to this tune: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mYKTXsRLY9Y
Appropriate that rating this song with an 8 will bring down its average.
This really sticks out after hearing so many mellow singer songwriter types.
30+ years later and today's so called RnR bands can't come close to this. What happened?

Stingray? Is that you?
ooooh yeah, ooooooooh yeah! Godlike.
EASY TEN
Yes indeed.
Take us with you!
But I heard it!
Ha! Damn the luck, right?!
Awesome.
I hate this song!
I'll take that bet in a second! (Although I'd much rather just hear Jimmy beat up on his Les Paul.) ; )
Personally I think it's great that they haven't done the gigantic "reunion" tour.
The 2 tours that Page/Plant did (in the 90s?) were great but now I think they're both just too old to be grinding out the Zep catalogue.
2 shrivelled grey-haired senior citizens singing about "every inch of my love" is just a tad creepy.
They aren't exactly "shriveled". I'd bet on either of them in a fair fistfight against you no matter who you are :-)
But I still listened to it.
Zeppelin rocks!!

Seriously?
Oh yeah.......... that is 16 people in THE ENTIRE WORLD. Pretty miniscule, actually. There are more serial killers in the world than that.
Only if you live in Illinois...
I hated this song the very first time I heard it and my opinion has not changed.
Too much hate today, enjoy life!
Yes, but a proud minority. I honestly don't see how anyone can like this song.
Rock on!
Agreed! It just seems like filler on a mostly great album.

Another reason to be glad I don't watch television.
So true. But thankfully he seems to have (finally) moved on. btw, his favorite word was "repetitive".
If this were Facebook I'd have pressed the Like button on these comments! ;)

Hint: if it's a highly rated song and the comment is fewer than 15 words, and at least two of the words are "crap" "boring" "predictable" "overrated" "noisy" "irritating" "depressing" or "annoying," you've got AdyMiles.
That's like your Free Space in bingo - no points.

Attention, Radio Paradise listeners, here's a fun game.

This was the one and only song LZ played at a Tampa Stadium concert in 1977. It was pouring down rain like it does only on Florida's Gulf Coast, and the boys feared electrocution. All I know is that I was pretty much all alone, dancing soaked and shirtless on the top row of the stadium, completely transported.
They were so good, and that song was so perfect, that I'm satisfied I got my money's worth for that concert.
This song is good for the ears...
you shouldnt talk like that bout yourself
I give this song a 9. Your comment, however, gets a -3.
Look and Def Leppard! Their drummer's only got one fucking arm!
Look at the Rolling Stones! They've been around for forty-five fucking years!
Look at Guns and Roses! Need I say more?
Rock and ROOOLLLLLLL!!!!!"

The drum intro was ripped lock stock and barrel from Little Richard though. I guess if you're going to be "influenced" by someone on a song called Rock and Roll, Little Richard would be the guy. Maybe Jerry Lee
Always a crowdpleaser and certainly suits my 3 note range.
