In this world, if you read the papers, darling,
You know everybody's fighting on with each other.
You got no one you can count on, dear,
Not even your own brother.
So if someone comes along,
He's gonna give you some love and affection
I'd say get it while you can, yeah!
Honey, get it while you can yeah,
Hey, hey, get it while you can,
Don't you turn your back on love, no, no!

Don't you know when you're loving anybody, baby,
You're taking a gamble on a little sorrow,
But then who cares, baby,
'Cause we may not be here tomorrow, no.
And if anybody should come along,
He gonna give you any love and affection,
I'd say get it while you can, yeah!
Hey, hey, get it while you can,
Hey, hey, get it while you can.
Don't you turn your back on love,
No no no, no no no no no.

Oh, get it while you can,
Honey get it when you're gonna wanna need it dear, yeah yeah,
Hey hey, get it while you can,
Don't you turn your back on love,
No no no, no no no no, get it while you can yeah,
I said hold on to somebody when you get a little lonely, dear,
Hey hey, hold on to that man's heart,
Yeah, get it, want it, hold it, need it,
Get it, want it, need it, hold it,
Get it while you can,
Honey get it while you can, baby, yeah,
Hey hey, get it while you can!

Hearing Janis always reminds me of a boss I had in Japan(thirty years ago!) who listened to Janis Joplin in her office. Shortly after she took over the job I was in there for whatever and remarked "If you follow that with some Allman Brothers you're gonna' make me think you're cool, Ma'am". She grinned and replied "I think we're going to get along well, Mr. Brown."

That's some kind of Zen: you don't need to become, or get something. You are right now already.
Compared to the sound of JJ, today’s female singers seem to all sound the same.

Get It While You Can...and be grateful about it.

Obviously you weren't taught very well or didn't learn.  Feel free to take your own advice.

That's a whole lot more "I didn't like this segue" than seems warranted.

THANKS for *not* playing the same 3 songs we almost always hear from Janis!

I never fully appreciated Janis until the last 6  or so years.  I missed a lifetime of loving her but thankfully it's not too late.  {#Heartkiss}
My girl Pearl is the real deal.

Hope life is grand for you these days, Peter_Bradshaw... love this great classic song... here's a quote from Janis Joplin which is profound considering her tragic demise—

“I have, like, what anyone would call like, say, a loneliness, a loneliness of my own. But it’s just a private trip and probably shouldn’t be forced on other people that much, you know what I mean? God, fuck it. Who cares how lonely you feel. You just have to learn to deal with it like everybody else does. Everybody has that, I think. Everybody. Even Christians.
I remember I used to think, God damn it, it’s because I'm a chick or it’s because I haven’t figured it out yet. It’s because I’m not twenty-one. It’s because I haven’t read this or I haven’t tried that... Well, I’ve done every fucking thing and now I know better. There is no ‘because.’ And it’s not going to get any better.
There isn’t going to be any turning point... There isn’t going to be any next-month-it’ll-be-better, next fucking year, next fucking life. You don’t have any time to wait for. You just got to look around you and say, ‘So this is it. This is really all there is to it. This little thing.’ Everybody needing such little things and they can’t get them. Everybody needing just a little... confidence from somebody else and they can’t get it. Everybody, everybody fighting to protect their little feelings. Everybody, you know, like reaching out tentatively but drawing back. It’s so shallow and seems so... fucking... it seems like such a shame. It’s so close to being like really right and good and open and amorphous and giving and everything. But it’s not. And it ain’t gonna be.” —Janis Joplin

The older I get, the more I understand this song. Tempus fugit, people. Don't defer happiness, get it while you can.
Lovely segue from Debussy - that's my kind of mix tape.

One of the most famous headshop posters of all time, dated 1972. I bought this at the legendary (and now defunct) Psychedelic Solution in the Village, NYC. Janis and Pigpen had a brief romantic affair. Janis died in 1970 and Pigpen followed in 1973. This was taken in the late 60s on the steps of the Grateful Dead's house in San Fran.

crockydile says it best! Classic singer...doesn't mean I have to like it. Yikes!
Amazing how a real singer doesn't need Autotune to sound good.
Sing it, Janis.
RIP

LOL

One need only compare the Janice version of "Piece of my Heart" to the recent cover by Faith Hill. If that comparison doesn't explain why Janice Joplin is a great singer, nothing will. A human soul crying for love vs white bread and mayo.  But Faith Hill sure does look good

Except for maybe Jefferson Starship, and then there's Spirit, and Hendrix, The Who...oh, yeah, The Grateful Dead, and The Band, the group with that guy Morrison, Miles Davis could be there, too. I personally prefer Richie Havens...

Hits the spot for me - what a voice to have - like you could do this? See above

Diddn't like her much at the time...but sounds good at this moment.
This is probably my favorite Janis tune. I'm not a huge fan of hers, though I've always appreciated the way she gives it her all. This song's sentiment always inspires me!
Janis always speaks to my soul..

Not fond memories. It's the recognition of an artist who was able to pour her heart and soul into her music. I'll take that over the Disney-generated group of "artists" being trotted out today. All day long.

This hippie era 60's stuff is not usually my bag, but damn I love to listen to this woman sing.

Hey, where's the 11 for "Goddesslike?" ;-)
Her finest album IMHO.
Janis rocked, her music still does.
ahhh. another beautiful voice.
Every time I hear Janis Joplin I have chills up and down my spine. My God, what an incredible and awesome performer! I saw her only once -- it was mind bending. With her death, self-inflicted via the usual devices of alcohol, drugs and burning the candle at both ends, the world -- yes The World -- lost a great voice and wonderful personality.

Oh Janis, why did you have to leave us so soon?
Ugh...let's not encourage her. Maybe she'll go away.

...YEAH...!!!
Fabulous. How this can be rated below the awful Radiohead song that's two up on the playlist is beyond me. Basically everything that's cool about rock and roll is in this song.
