Hey!

Hey!

Don't come around here no more
Don't come around here no more
Whatever you're lookin' for
Hey! Don't come around here no more

I've given up, stop
I've given up, stop
I've given up, stop
On waiting any longer
I've given up
On this love getting stronger
Don't come around here no more
Don't come around here no more
Don't come around here no more
Don't come around here no more

I don't feel you anymore
You darken my door
Whatever you're lookin' for
Hey! Don't come around here no more

I've given up, stop
I've given up, stop
I've given up, stop
You tangle my emotions
I've given up
Honey please, admit it's over

Hey!

Don't come around here no more
Don't come around here no more
Don't come around here no more
Don't come around here no more

Stop walking down my street
Don't come around here no more
Who do you expect to meet?
Don't come around here no more
And whatever you're lookin' for
Hey! Don't come around here no more
Hey!

Honey please, don't come around here no more
Whatever you're lookin' for

Ah, oh, ah, ah
Don't come around here no more

Just a mediocre song from a slightly above mediocre band, that had a good guitar player. It had a very long career and churned out alot of albums, but nothing really exceptional.   Filler material...that's about it.

Two words.  Benmont Tench.

Well they fill a lot of space....

Safe travels, Tom Petty.

I was a kid when I first saw the video for this. I thought Tom Petty was an evil person as result. LOL Great video though.

First time hearing this! Had to log in to rate it outstanding!
Good Tune!

J'adore!

Supposedly the cake scene freaked out Tipper Gore's daughter and helped lead to the success of her stupid parental advisory campaign...
This album was Tom Petty's "Sgt. Pepper's".

Ah, 12 years have passed since I posted that comment and times have changed. I miss Tom Petty so much that this cut now sounds good  to me. You don't know what you've got 'till it's gone...
Héhé big sound from the 80' but very good

I wonder if Bahamas sounded the same when he was 4 years old?

Story I heard on the CBC recently said that this song was inspired by a strange party at Stevie Nicks' house in the Hollywood Hills. Nicks had been romantically involved with Joe Walsh, but apparently they had chosen this particular night to break up. The story goes that Nicks chased him out of the house and said, "Don't come 'round here no more."

Inspiration, apparently, can be found everywhere.

And here I thought Petty was plugging into a universal type of message.  Look at 'marriage' with a success rate no better than a coin flip.
Takes me back to a great time in life. The glory days, the salad days.

this one is pretty good.  it has a little more of the oddball quality that I like and which he normally lacks --- 9

This video blew my mind when it first came out.  7 for the nostalgia.

Misdirection, excellent. Ignorance and racism are convenient labels to slap on people you can't engage in honest discussion. Entirely untrue when applied to the group you slur, but it does take the focus off of the issues. Is it possible people are expressing displeasure by constitutionally protected means in the best spirit of the country? It may be worthwhile to greater understanding for all of us if you were to reduce your vitriol and increase your dialog. These are not sports teams. We all choose to live here, we all must choose how - together.

This is, I can say without a doubt, the only major song by Tom Petty that I care for. Good production, innovative use of orchestral and Indian instrumentation. Slow, but driving incessantly towards the drum kit breakaway at the end. Very nice.

I am on the same page - the Non-Tom vocal I like . . .

This is not a very good song, but I like it anyway.

Love Stevie Nicks in the background there.
Takes me back to that trippy ol' video! :)
Brilliant!!!!
Love it...
That's right...this song is from the time when MTV was supposed to play videos.

His current drummer, Steve Ferrone, is the guy who played drums so well for Average White Band in the 70s (circa Cut the Cake). Pocket drummers are money.

Okay, I am definitely of that first "MTV generation" (I'll never forget in the 80s when we first got cable and how psyched I was to watch MTV).....but I always liked when they ate Alice in Wonderland as a red-inside cake. Maybe now I'd find it stupid.....but I loved it then.
Every time I hear this song, I remember the MTV video with Alice in Wonderland and Tom as the Mad Hatter. Wonderful memories.

I'm with you friend. Love it.
boy, i really did need this song today. nothing like being fought over... *blah*
ahh, there are times when all you need is one note in a solo! like here. and then there's the wah-wah... knowing the end rocks so hard makes it easier to sit through the blase verse/chorus...
This is, I can say without a doubt, the only major song by Tom Petty that I care for. Good production, innovative use of orchestral and Indian instrumentation. Slow, but driving incessantly towards the drum kit breakaway at the end. Very nice.

Holy Cow!!! This is from the 1980s? I have been asleep.
I didn't like this song back when it was released (probably b/c it was such a departure what with the sitar and all) but it grew on me tremendously over the years. Really dig it now.
Wow, this after Norah Jones is like getting out of a hot shower and diving into a cold pool. Good song,...Bad segue.
Always liked this. Thought the video that accompanied it was pretty stoopid, though.
Wow, there sure are a lot of idiots here. Awesome song.

When I saw Petty and Pearl Jam last summer he rocked it out at the end of this song. I mean really rocked it out for an old man.

This may be one of their "greatest hits" from a sales perspective, but it sure as hell isn't one of their greatest.
It's easily the best Tom Petty song ever. I ain't kidding. Folks perceive things differently. The other "great hits" by Petty seem too trite to me in comparison to this. (And I mean trite in terms of music, not lyrics.)
i was sitting here thinking the very same thing. RobRyan wrote:
When TP is bad he's awful imho - this song is a case in point. I'm really mystified as to why people like it. Boring and droning.

As usual the numbers tell the tale. 168 ratings with an average of 7.3 Sounds like more people like this TP song then don't. Not that the tyranny of the masses is perfect, but I tend to trust it in matters of taste on RP.

Reminds us of those times tripping amongst the daisies maybe...

I don't care if this was a mainstream hit that you'd hear on Jack FM. A good tune is a good tune is a good tune.

Been a while since this has appeared on the playlist. About time.
You want me to say it? FINE. I'll say it. This song doesn't suck. In fact, it's the anti-suck. This song is gorgeous and perfect. But Petty is still in the red in my books. His greatest hits are starting to drain my soul. I saw someone else mention that his album cuts might be worth listening to. Is this true? If so, for God's sake, please play those instead of the crap.
I just wish TP had continued working with Dave Stewart and not Jeff Lynne.

True. Would love to hear SOUTHERN ACCENT.
A co-worker had a way of measuring his music: Good TP, Bad TP thisisgoodTomPetty.... an 8.
Great song. Creepy video.
