Maybe you had to have been there

Solid 7 just for the cover.
sounds like hearing him live in tokyo would have been some wild, wild stuff
I have no idea what he's signing about, but I agree 110%...
RIP David.  Thanks for the great music.
Just read about his death 2023 March 03.  I've been hearing him for years on other people's albums and didn't know it.  So now I'm intentionally seeking  his music. This  great slide piece  made me go to the screen to see who it was and lo and behold it's him - David Lindley !
RIP Mr Lindley

Death metal, perhaps?

Depends on which Cajun you ask, I suspect — but that's how Lindley spells it on the CD cover.

As for the album title, Dave *hated* having bootleg recordings of his shows sold. In part because of the money, but even more so because they always — in his opinion — used recordings of his very worst shows. So he picked a live recording he liked, and released it as an "official bootleg".  He did at least 2 of them. Unfortunately very hard to find.

This guy is not from S. Louisiana, so probably doesn't know that he's misspelling the term "bon temps rouler", nor even what it means.  So "fredriley" is correct to call that out.  The exact phrase it comes from is "laissez les bon temps rouler", which means "let the good times roll."  "Bon ton roulie" is meaningless gibberish.

Relax.  Artistic license all the way.  Great playing and singing.  It's just slang.  Relax. Enjoy.
never again, please

That's Dave. As you might suspect from his vocal delivery, guitar playing is his main claim to fame ;-)

"Cajun" meaning "Acadian"! So easy to misspell..

Sounds like  Lucinda Williams with a clear voice.

According to Wikipedia, first recorded by Clarence Garlow in 1949. So far have not found any Dylan version.
Better as an instrumental!
that must be Ry Cooder on guitar
Took everyone I know to see El Rayo X in SanJan back in'85: folks, gf, bros, all my buds.
Opening act was some BobDylan wannabe - droning lyrics and no accompaniment - my folks we're getting up to leave. I bot them another drink and told them to sit tight.
Mr Dave walks out and complements the guy, says we need to keep that groove going - then hammers right into Twist&Shout.
Everyone flew to their feet and the place just went into obit.
Definitely one of the best events in my life.  Man, are we lucky or what.
Is this guy any relation to Michael Evis ...He looks so much like him lol

I was going to comment and say I miss Dancing Banana and friends, but I just noticed that they are still there in the new comment interface.  Thanks, Bill!

Keeping this on topic, fun song with a catchy groove!
This album cover is hilarious.
LOVE Lindley...not my fav tho, unless I had a BIG ASS drink w/an umbrella in it.
I think we know why he let Jackson Browne do the vocals on all those great albums.
awesome......loved watching these two together back in the day!  Laguna Seca Raceway!
Saw DL perform this piece solo at the beginning of last year. The man can play, but he is showing signs of stuck-in-a-groove-itis.

Is that an euglena in your post?

This song makes me think of unicelular organisms and what they would sound if they could sing!

Must say the best version of Bon Temps Roulez was back in the nineties with Zachary Richard.

I love the real human music of people sitting in back yard of on front porch jamming with women dancing in barefeet...

This song has that feeling... Barn, garage, yard or rolled back carpet with cornmeal spread... Big women dancing, skinny men dancing and everyone having fun...

Once upon a time people made their own music and didn't use anything electric...

Watching big women, black, Hawaiian, white, or whatever...Just human... They make the afternoon/evening fun...

Plus they are giving evidence that they are happy, healthy and not sad or depressed...

We need more music times like this...

Hey Bill, see if you can find the tune by Lindley & El Rayo-X: "Your Old Lady". Decent guitar on that one too.
Very greasy.

Nope, Southwest Louisiana does not employ this Californicated linguistic shortcut. Also appears correctly in some Lindley references, so could just be an RP uploader tic.

? Deliverance does not feature Cajun music - it's set in a completely different cultural and geographic area. That's like lumping the Loire Valley and the Rüdesheim am Rhein together. They both have rivers, make wine and are in Europe, what's the dif?

Southern Comfort is a very confused and extrapolated vision of Acadiana, although the soundtrack does employ a Dewey Balfa cut, "Parlez-nous à Boire". Très authentique Acadienne.

This tune - fun as it is - is not an example of the broad category "Cajun Music". More like a tourist snapshot remembered through a hangover.

Aha, first time I've heard this since seeing him at the Rime. He's a master at holding the audience through lengthy solos.
Is it me or does it all go a bit Bhangra in the middle there?

I like this tune and the playing, even so {#Roflol}

Lindley's no Cajun, it's bon temps rouler, of course. Appreciate his attention, he has paid dues. Parroting something he likes, as did Strummer, lovingly. My Acadian relatives would appreciate the capitalization, thanks.

Boh. Comme tu veux - les Cajuns. Est-tu felice? Quel type de Français parlent les Cajuns? Ce n'est pas Français moderne. Je suis desolé pour mes erreurs linguistiques - je n' ai pas beaucoups de chances de parler le Français a Nottingham :(

Oh, geez - I have GOT to save up my pennies for that one!  Life is finite, and by golly, Jackson Browne/David Lindley is one show I want to see before I die. (I already got to see Warren Zevon, thank goodness.)  Love this song - some very nasty slide work goin' on...{#Dancingbanana_2}
Love me some Mr. Dave. {#Clap}
Woo Hooo! This is some fun boogie down music! :D
No matter how down you get, no matter how far up everything looks...a little David Lindley, and all's right with the world.

David Lindley is one of the most under-rated, over-talented instrumentalists ever. I think he, Lindsey Buckingham, and Leo Kottke are three of my favorite eclectic guitarists.

Great show!

C'est bon, love his slide and cajun music, married one lol
without the beer, crawfish, spicy sausage, and boiled red potatoes,  this song stands alone and is naked.  Sorry, need the atmosphere and the song improves dramatically.

Great slide player but/and a complete whack job.  Thanks for playing this fun music!
Bill, you really are having a Santa Cruz flashback.... B. Brozman, A. DiFranco, D. Lindley! I can smell the patchouli from here!
Wow...been awhile since this one got out for air.
Yet another song I would never have heard without RP! Thanks, Bill!
I LOVE this song!!!
Bill...Play some Kaleidoscpe sometime. One of the best bands of the sixties.
Fun song. Great beat and excellent guitar work. Rock on RP.
Great Track, this is why RP rocks, we get stuff like this and all the other GREAT stuff like U2 We're not worthy!
I wholeheartedly agree about his live shows - he\'s always got the best musicians and Lindley is definitely one unique character. I carried out the rider on his contract for a gig he did many, many moons ago. It was a very, very cold night in a very, very lonely prairie town. They were great guys, if a little freaked out by -30 windchills. I remember one poignant conversation they had at dinner - they were deriding the state of music journalism - \'those guys don\'t know what they\'re talking about\', one said. Lindley\'s comment was that they (music mags) all hire students with no music experience. Of course at the time I was writing a music column for the student paper - that conversation really struck a chord. I haven\'t written any music stuff since. Thanks for the reality check David.
And check out \"Sport Utility Sucks\" :)
Is the spelling correct? Shouldn\'t it be \"Bon Temps Roulez\"?
See him live if you get the chance. Nice!
Now this is good music. :)
way too long and too much the same - boo.
Wonderful!
