As I step to the edge of the shadow of a doubt
With my conscience beating
Like the pulse of a drum that hammers on and on
'Til I reach the break of day
As the sun beats down on the halfway house
Has my conscience beating
That sound in my ear, the will to persevere
As I reach the break of day
When you've lost all hope and excuses
And the cheapskates and the losers
Nothing's left to cling onto
You've gotta hold on, hold onto yourself
A cry of hope, a plea for peace
And my conscience beating
It's not what I want for it's all that I need
To reach the break of day
So I run to the edge of the shadow of a doubt
With my conscience bleeding
Here lies the truth, the lost treasures of my youth
As I hold to the break of day
When you've lost all hope and excuses
And the cheapskates and the losers
Nothing's left to cling onto
You've gotta hold on, hold onto yourself
When you've lost all hope and excuses
And the cheapskates and the losers
Nothing's left to cling onto
You've gotta hold on
Gotta hold on
Hold on, hold onto yourself
With my conscience beating

Not my favourite song by Green Day, but a quality band. More Green Day on RP! Especially from the American Idiot album, their masterpiece.

I love it when RP play Green Day.
Sure gets people 'going' and,
'Cause i like Green Day.

Is it just my ears or is that harmonica nowhere near the pitch? I confess that, apart from Mark Feltham and Larry Adler, I'm not much of a fan of the harmonica.

Follow this up with I Should've Known Better by the Beatles for a palette cleanser.

They definitely have MUCH better songs than this...don't need to hear that again.

Simply put:
I love the whole album and this song very much.
May also be a bit about the great time in my life when I bought the CD, but if lifts my spirits!

Fun, but kind of like a so-so early Beatles, especially that harmonica.
Never heard this. Nice throw-back vibe.

so non-conforming they went pop and when that didn't work, they tried to do what did. what non-conformists.
the world would be better without them as a group.
I wasn't going to respond because there are too many issues here. What did non-conformists. WHAT THE F? Feed the vultures and let's get on with it.

I was expecting Fairport's Si Tu Dois Partir from the intro!
... with a dash of Pretty Flamingo!

It sounds like that song, and a lot of other songs. It's a very basic and well-used chord progression. This does have a very similar tempo to "Veronica" as well.
DOES sound a bit like "Veronica"!!!

Not sure I've heard GD on RP before.
Not sure I need to again. I know where my Dookie CD is if I really need to get back to late '90's "punk". It's been a few years since I had that urge, though.

They started in Cali in a hard-core punk club. They went "pop" and were ostracized and kicked out. They tried to say the punkers didn't get that by going pop, they were actually the punkiest of all punks as punk is about non-conformity. They are now so non-conforming to the punk ideology of sticking the middle finger to the man that they have taken punk to the next level. Therefore, pop is the new punk.
Yeah right.

Green Day is ok as long as you know what you are listening to, it is not art or particularly interesting, it is simple pop. Kinda like watching Burn Notice, you have to understand what it is you are watching and then it is ok.

Wow, has it really been 8+ years since this was last played?

is it just me, or does this track sound like it was encoded really poorly? the high frequency percussion and whatnot sounds all sorts of crappy.

Sounds more like "They Might Be Giants" meets Elvis Costello to me.

There are a lot of reasons not to like this song: Simple instrumentation, thin vocals, muddy mix. Yet there is something so delightfully simple about it, that I can\'t help but smile hearing it. Little wonder Bill followed it up with Elvis Costello\'s Veronica.
Never cared much for Green Day, other than 2 or 3 off their debut.
But I actually kind of like this one.
Gotta love the Green Day!
not beatles, but a rip-off of a song co-penned by Sir Paul.
=================
Is it all in that pretty little head of yours?
What goes on in that place in the dark?
Well I used to know a girl and I would have sworn
That her name was Veronica
Well she used to have a carefree mind of her own
And a delicate look in her eye
These days I'm afraid she's not even sure
If her name is Veronica

Great Beatles tune!
Hey, that was great! Play it some more!
I thought the harmonica sounded more like \"I wanna hold your hand\". Anyway, Green Day are fab - anyone ever heard the solo acoustic version of \"Time of your Life\" that\'s floating around in mp3land? Billy Joe sounds like Billy Bragg - fab. Play it Bill.
I actually thpught this was the Beatles before I checked the playlist. I must be tired... btw, this surely deserves more than the 5.4 rating it has now.
I agree. (But I gave it a 5; I have to reserve the lower #s for the truly atrocious stuff you never hear on RP.)

I don\'t wanna work, I wanna bang on the drums all day!!!
(and blow the harmonica, etc.)
Doesn\'t sound all that similar to I should have known better
to me. May have many of the same notes but they certainlydon\'t seem to be in the same order. I certainly
wouldn\'t pay a royalty to Mike for it.

I believe they did. If not in the liner notes he certainly did in a magazine interview.
I must be a contrarian - I think it\'s above average.

Please don\'t subject us to this often, I\'m turning green and ill as it plays on... :p
