I've been having wicked thoughts
Terribly wicked, selfish and cruel,
Imagining I stood high on a ledge
And fell just out of the reach of you;
Just then, we are together alone
As I fall, you look up—
Looking for all the world like for once
It was you, not me, who had been struck.
Should I love you more than I do?
Or pray to love you less?
Or learn to live with the little you give
Believing it all for the best?
Will I ever see your heart
Open wide and your eyes shut—
Looking for all the world like for once
It was you, not me, who had been struck.
The trees are angry, toss in the wind
Devour small planes going by,
Dropping wreckage, bags and gloves
Down around us where we lie;
I hear your uneasy breath
As you stir but don't wake up,
Looking for all the world like for once
It was you, not me, who had been struck
Terribly wicked, selfish and cruel,
Imagining I stood high on a ledge
And fell just out of the reach of you;
Just then, we are together alone
As I fall, you look up—
Looking for all the world like for once

The trees are angry.
This album is one of my automatic go-to's when I don't know what I want to listen to...Ornette Coleman guests on 2 songs plus a hidden track at the end which is pretty-much just Ornette "doing his thing".
I like this very much. Good lyrics.

First time I have heard Joe. Very nice mood. Does remind me of Sting in his quieter moments though.

This is actually a masterpiece I don't know how long they worked on this LPit sounds very natural and look at the different sounds you get , you get guitar flute trumpet you get the whole orchestra including the violin with an alcoholic

Actually this is the first time I've heard him. Very decent, reminds of the tone set in some Joe Strummer & the Mescaleros songs.
Different, yet alike. Nice.

I am middle aged, a Californian born and bred, and have no idea WTF a crystal chaser is. Crystal as in meth or crystal as in "crystals align your aura"? I think both are idiotic - but I love this tune and Joe Henry in general.
So what does that do to your theory, sparky?
Might work for a middle age California crystal chaser, but it doesn't play well in Wyoming. Strike.

Go Joe!!

It's not working for this middle-aged California crystal chaser, either. Strike two.

Love it!

I completely understand your dilemna. With the HUGE library of music that RP must have, it seems we shouldn't hear any song once a day.
It would be rather quiet then on RP...
Trying to go to bed. I had to reopen firefox to rate this highly...found I had already rated it a 9...sorry, just not quite divine. Pretty damn good though.
that was nice. First time I've heard this guy. I recommend checking out the lyrics if you have the time. Thanks again, RP.
Joe Henry is my favorite "newest" discovery a co-worker introduced me to his music many years ago. This guy just gets better and better, he crosses all genres and styles and is a true innovator.
This was really beautiful!
this really drags on...
Sting-a-ling-a-ding-ding ;)
wow. this is good.
This is not helping my afternoon sleepies...
So boring

Yeah.. me too... like killing the kat that put this record together, and the messanger that delivered it to the pressing machines, and the boxer that packed them... all of them had their hand in this evil and therefor should all die by the dullest edge sword one could find :D
yeah.. it puts *me* in a *mood* alright..!!
Nobody puts me in a mood like Joe Henry.
Brooding, sallow, melancholy. Very effective combination of words, voice and music.

Nice and Stingish.
excellent excellent excellent.
his song jesus\' son is great background music for a party.
Mainly knew Henry from the album Shuffletown. A very pure, acoustic album, with beautiful intimate music. But, as a whole, maybe a bit dull(?) This is something different indeed! More contemporary at least and maybe more exciting, more tense.
Not bad, but this song\'s startin\' to feel like a vitamin - I\'m gettin\' it once a day.
A nice mellow tune. I like it :)
Can we move on to other songs now?
