They (the band) call their music Surfabilly. Good lord I love me some SCOTS. Bring on the 8 piece box and banana puddin'.
CCR...21century.
Shades of Born on the Bayou...... One of my all time faves.

I love this.
Let's ride.
This wouldn't be out of place in a Tarantino film

Rick Miller is a very skilled guitar player, though it may not always be so apparent (to some) in a some of their music.  I guess when some listeners (not you) hear a 7th chord played with that voicing and arpeggio (a style which is very long-established in R&B), they assume it's a rip-off of John Fogerty.  Some people ought to learn how to play an instrument, or at least learn something about music history before they go around accusing musicians of plagiarism.

I Agree! Very well stated!
I hear the Poke Salad poking through
SCOTS!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Yes a must see if they tour in your area. Mucho fun!
And if it's the same drummer, he plays standing up!

One of the most fun, carefree shows you'll see.  So great.
How can you NOT shake your hips to this.

...but did the OP really allege that Rick Miller was ripping off John Fogerty?  They seem to like Rick Miller and appear to have been simply using Fogerty (whose style does sound similar to the untrained ear of someone doesn't bring up 7th chord arpeggios to condescend), a very popular and respected musician, as an example to those who might look down on SCOTS.
I like the band's name...

Hilarious synchronicity - have never heard SCOTS on RP before and I was blasting Camel Walk (in one of my mixes) on my way to work this morning. Love these folk! Saw them in Vancouver back in the early 2000s and they put on a hell of show. El Vez opened for them and it was a hot night.

El Vez, now there's a fun live band too!

... yes, as have two dozen other rock and rollers or rockabillies.  That doesn't make it off-limits.

The question is, SHOULD IT BE COVERED ... do you like this or not?  I do.

Their best album, IMHO. And this song is a great tribute to Tony Joe White.

Niiiice! Strangely close to CCR? Or is it just me?

Edit: Not only me apparently :-) hadn't checked previous comments {#Stupid}

He was referring to CCR.  But you have a point (at least laterally) in that SCOTS is perhaps more authentic.

I'm not going to comment any further through.  How can I?  I live in Austin but it's a stretch to call Austin a southern city or even a Texas city anymore.  And like the majority of people here I'm not really a Texan.  As a joke when a true Texan ask where I'm from I ask them where's the worst place you could be from?  They usually say California and I say right, good guess, but I'm not originally from California either, so where's the second worst place to be from and they usually guess New York and they would be right again (although rural Upstate in my case).

Could be worse you really could be from TX.  {#Roflol}

Story is the same though I am from Jersey living north of you in OK.
Yup I miss my 383 V8

Great live!!!  And the only band I've seen with a stand-up drummer.  You rock Dave Hartman.

Nice!

you can fix piston slap with a hammer and a punch. Peen the skirt and reinstall (and if you have to add some paper under the bearings to tighten them up as well). Tis how the po folk does it.

Still great, but not the same without Leslie Land on bass - the original "ear splitting" band girl.

These guys are the real deal and put on a great live show. They play a fantastic mix of country, punk, humor, and yes, southern culture. I hope they stay in the rotation.

Faulkner sees all of the good, and all of the bad, in a magical amalgam of Americana at its finest, and poorest. Great analogy man!

Don't know them...That's an interesting enough name that I'll have to check 'em out. Said the same thing about SCOTS btw.

I was guessing that this was a Blasters reunion or variation.

Yes yes, more cowbell, thanks for sharing. Even I'm getting tired of that line and I have OCD-perseveration issues (according to my therapist, Dr. Howard "Spruce Goose" Hughes).

Agreed! Made me sit up and take notice of the song . . .

I don't mind being influenced but this is a little too similar to Born on the Bayou even for me - sound, chord progression, beat, guitar tone, you name it. Having said all that, I still kind of like the song.

CCR: San Francisco band mining and enriching the bountiful deposits of zydeco and swamp pop found along the TEX-LA-MIS-BAMA gulf coast.

Also sounds to much like their song "Fried Chicken and Gasoline"

It's been a LONG time since I've heard this band!  First saw them live in Iowa City, IA...you know U of I, at a local bar.  Must have been in the early 90's.  Within a month I saw them on Good Morning America on some eastern campus.  Haven't seen them since but always loved them.  THANKS RP!!

Sorry to say... SCOTS have always left me cold. And YES, I have seen them in concert more than once. I vote for less SCOTS and more Trailer Park Troubadours on this channel. That's just my opinion, and I'm not trying to denigrate all the fans here. Peace!{#Sunny}

The type of I work I do it sometimes requires me to work in open Wal-marts. If you want to know what the people in the community are all about, just spend a couple of hours in a freindly neigborhood Wal-mart.
Don'cha sorta wish the reinvented Fogerty could do something like this?
quite the cover image....
Makes me pine for Country Dick Montana and the band. Talk about some stage antics! Dying of a heart attack on stage cannot be outdone. The only way Country Dick could have gone out. RIP, Dick.

The mainstay of their shows is to throw chicken wings and banana puddin' into the audience. SCOTS rock!
This is keeping the older trick or treaters hanging around my yard. Now I need more candy!!!! Nice!!!
