This song and Buddy Holly by Weezer got heavy play on MTV Asia, while I was traveling through India back in 1995.  Those songs always bring me back there and to the people I met on that trip. 

This will always remind me of my stay in the Tuscan hills of Amiata mid-January to mid-April of 2005. Often, especially weekend evenings, as I'd be setting out on the hike uphill into the charming medieval town for some typically excellent local food, drink, and revelry, I'd pass by a garage attached to an old stone farmhouse that was not like all the others, for this one had a fledgling teenage Rock band practicing inside it. It made me chuckle that they always seemed to be playing this song as I would be passing along outside on the cobblestone lane. I could see and hear them trying their darnedest to get it worked out -- and having a great beer and wine-fuelled time while doing it, too; all of this, of course, to their unlucky neighbors' likely exasperation! As the weeks went by, they got better and better, and were soon doing other GD songs, Iggy, and Ramones, too...  -- And so again, we see -- MUSIC -- CAUSING BIG TROUBLE...  

They had some solid tracks early in their catalogue - this is one of them 👍

One of the worst bands ever. Bad lyrics, juvenile guitar, and contrived vocals. They remind me of the bands that played at my high school talent shows. I've seen interviews with the singer. In response to criticism, he said he wanted the critics to criticize him to his face so he could punch them in the mouth. What a douchebag.

I suggest you listen to his duet album with Norah Jones, it's a cover album of Everly Brothers songs. Their two voices together sound amazing (and not just because of Norah :-))

Green Day is a good band.  At their best --- Jesus of Suburbia for instance --- they are borderline great.

I bought this album when it came out. Not sure why. I never once played it (green vinyl), because every time I heard a song from it, it sounded like they couldn't play to save their toes. Dreadful singing too.

Thought my ears were decieving me there, but no! Never would've expected to find Green Day on RP.

This track/album never got over played on UK Commercial radio - too 'heavy' (i mean not bland enough) for 'em (yes really)

20 years later and this is still one awesome album.

Nets an 8 from me -- perhaps not entirely on its own merits, but on at least some nostalgia. I'm comfortable with that.

I like their simplicity and power distortion. That's about it.

Ah, yes.  1994.  This album was moderately enjoyable FM rock.  Never liked anything from them before or since.

One of the first songs that I really liked. I was about 7 when I saw the video on MTV. They were my favorite band until the very early 2000's. Warning was their last good album.

I'm beginning to see an interesting trend. Many people seem to hate music from the '90's. My guess is that most of them are late 40's to mid 50's now. I'm at the age they were 15-20 years ago. I agree with avani. Yes, this song has been way overplayed commercially. But sandwiched in a RP set sets it off and lets me hear it in a fresh way. In the new setting, it seems to have more merit. Not great, not super innovative, but catchy, shoulder-popping, and boppable.

It is not as easy as you might think, hence not that strange at all. I came to the screen to type that this is one instance that demonstrates how great it would be if we had two possible stops in Paradise - so we could hop between islands when in the mood. I am not speaking of lots of islands because that process can be never ending. Just two options based on tempo. There are times when the absolute best song to hear is "Clampdown" and other times when you the most intensity you can take is "Lost In The Supermarket". Sometimes when you really want to rock, a groove is not as important. You just want crunch. The best can do both, of course, but the issue still is one of tempo. A groove, as long as it is low on crunch, can sometimes still work in a "downtempo" vibe. A separate, "rocky paradise", island would allow for continued jazz and cool classical now and then. Well, anyway, a bit more than my 2 cents. ;) (And don't get me wrong, I can think of LOTS of tunes - from various genres and eras - that I would sometimes love to hear on a Paradise-programmed station. The uptempo station being a click away when I want to rawk, the same Paradise programming sensibility would make the two "islands" A-1 or 1-A; essentially two number ones. )

green day and foo fighters are pretty much in the same category as far as talent goes (not great, not totally lame) :roll:

Yeah, they reject a good Foo Fighers song I submitted. Hey, someone should submit the acoustic version of "Times Like These". And sue me, I love Green Day! Enthusiasm and fake accents make up for lack of knowledge of chords and stuff :)

I sometimes wonder what goes on in Bill's mind. I mean this isn't bad but it's nothing special! A good background tune for driving perhaps. But what's wrong with for example Foo Fighters? They have some great songs but don't make it here. Really strange...

Ordinarily I\'d state that Green Day sucks unfathomable quantities of ass, but I really dig this song. The guitar riff provides a nice background upon which to lay the melody. Nicely done.
