Oh, the summer time is coming,
And the trees are blooming,
And the wild mountain thyme
Grows around the blooming heather.

Will you go, lassie, will you go?
And we'll all go together
To pull wild mountain thyme
All around the blooming heather,
Will you go, lassie, go?

I will build my love a bower
By yon clear and crystal fountain,
And all around the bower,
I'll pile flowers from the mountain.

If my true love, she won't have me,
I will surely find another
To pull wild mountain thyme
All around the blooming heather.

Oh, the summertime is coming
And thre trees are blooming
And the wild mountain thyme
Grows around the blooming heather

Don't disturb, I'm in the Highlands now.
One of the most beautiful tunes, ever. Chokes me up instantly just thinking it let alone the hearing thereof.
I go back and forth on this , but generally I think Mark Knopfler is some sort of incarnation of God.
beautiful.

Mark Knopfler

The movie is a bit formulaic, but interesting if you like Scotland - the soundtrack is excellent....
Even if it's not a "good" track, this is still a good track.  No one spins as lovely a melody as Knopfler.
Lovely.

My ancestors probably pillaged and raped Celtic folk.

Now I am married to one.  She also carries Norman and Alonquin blood.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Irish_flute I think
Love Mark Knopfler, but this...'song'... is a dud. The whole thing sounds like an intro where nothing ever develops or  kicks into any kind of melody.
The ears perk up, I go to the RP tab, and say "Ah, another Knopfler soundtrack." Now I want to listed to the Local Hero soundtrack again.
It's been done so many times and with so many various ways. I really like Knopfler, but this stinks.

This new agey version by Mark Knopfler is pretty. Y'all should play the Bert Jansch one sometime.

And then the Yat-Kha cover.{#Cheesygrin}

Bad on me. I'm a big Knopfler fan and I've not heard this one.
He writes and plays some of the most exquisite melodies to be heard. Of course, his guitar is off the charts.
He's an automatic 8 for me.

Totally agree! Now I'd like to watch this movie just to hear its soundtrack!

missed it too darn.

I didn't know Knopfler did a version of this song, too. Dang! I was at lunch and missed it! Will have to catch it later cause I love this song!

Schmaltz - he should be ashamed.

It's a soundtrack, Jack.

Anyway, if you like this (and better stuff), my fave ST album of his is Local Hero.

As for this movie, I saw it without English subtitles and—try as we may to listen very intently—the brogue was often too thick as to be intelligible.
Dang Bill...This is beautiful
I thought Zamfir was starting...was that a pan flute?  Nice

I love this soundtrack!! But then... I love almost everything Mark's done up to this point, especially his solo projects!

Now I like this, what a strange mix of the last few songs. One extreme to another to another. Even though I don't like a couple of them this is still the best station around bar none. Thanks RP!
Schmaltz - he should be ashamed.

Mark Knopfler plays Local Hero Wild Theme, live at the Royal Albert Hall (with his guitar Gibson Les Paul ´58):

Really riding the line of cheesy...as the song continues I think it's definitely in the cheeseball camp.
Yuck! Yuck! Yuck!

You rated it better because it was Knopfler ? I thought it was ok, sort of a ride on the celtic elevator. But I liked the ride.
Indeed! I liked it, but it's a little too mellow. Would give it a 6, but it gets a bonus point for being Mark Knopfler, and another for the hilarious album cover.
Must Own This.
That was simply lovely.
smooooth....
Glorious... music.
This new agey version by Mark Knopfler is pretty. Y'all should play the Bert Jansch one sometime.
This traditional melody always gives me goosebumps. Knopfler does a good job with it.
Beauty, eh?

Most definitely. Also reminds me of some of the more lyrical parts of Knopfler's soundtrack to Local Hero.
Cause and effect may be difficult to establish: is it highly rated Mark Knopfler because it's pretty Celtic, or is it highly rated pretty Celtic because it's MK? Either way, it certainly illustrates Mr. Knopfler's musical talents in orchestration and composition. Excellent tune.
A beautiful tune

Wonderful! (I keep expecting Van Morrison to start singing.)
PRECISELY WHAT I WAS THINKING!!!!!!! I thought for sure it was a track off the Van Morrison/ Chieftains CD
I was over on forums and just had to shoot over and re-emphasize how this evokes The Shire... so well done. " ...It's high Summer in The Shire, Mr. Frodo. Do you remember strawberries and cream?"

Is this from the soundtrack to the movie "cal". If so, could whomever uploaded also upload "irish boy"
Knopfler. Is god.

Wonderful! (I keep expecting Van Morrison to start singing.)
Hauntingly beautiful. What a nice ditty.
A request Bill: could you all play some more of this album? "Four in a Row" is also a favourite.

maybe that's why this song is rated almost an 8.

Good point... that happens to me too.

This is lovely. Though, it is a bit low-key, and I don't know if I'd want to listen to it day in and day out. I note it's from the Glory soundtrack, so I can see it as a movie track definately. Still, delish.
Perfect song to end the day after a long struggling journey
...As the heather turns to bloom , all across The Shire....
Yum. Celtic past lives welling up.... :-D
i bought this cd and it is terrific.
Outstanding
A pretty good tune by perhaps the best guitarist of our time. IMHO. I would bring up the guitar a bit in the mix. Less harp and pipes.
I love this song and this instrumental version was well done.
for me this is pointless
goosebumps!!! And not because I like it.... just have hard time with flutes I guess. :-k
What a lovely set... Carbon Leaf/The Boxer and this cut...

I agree. Too bad I'm tied to my DSL connection in order to listen to RP.
...makes me even more impatient for Bristol RenFaire to open up this summer. Thankfully, I've got a sf/f con this weekend (with my birthday to kick it off) to keep me at bay. Raven
Whenever I hear this song, I am in constant fear of hearing celine deon start doing her imitation of "singing."
A classic tune excellent performed. But I think I prefere versions by folk bands including the words.

You'll come to curse this song now.

Beautious Maximus. I think I hear a tad of Shenendoah in there. Now play Steve Miller's "Wild Mountain Honey".
Well, I\'ve stopped working, and I\'m just listening. Deep glade, rushing stream.... Thank you, Bill.
This is very lovely, hard to imagine a more satisfying intrumental rendition...Great set by the way, the segue to the Airplane with another instrumental gem, and then bringing in the vocals with the Tanyas.... Ah, Radio Paradise :)
Oh now that was GOOD!! I only wish I was outside when I heard it...
makes me think of the mountains :)
I love this guy! Anything you can play by Mark is welcome indeed. Mark Knopfler is one of the most soulful guitar players ever. More please!
This is so beautiful. It makes me stop what I\'m doing here at work & go look out the window.
ahhhhhhh. :)
Simply beautiful. This song really draws up some magnificent images for me.
Gorgeous! I have placed this album in my CDNOW shopping cart.
Did Zamfir sit in on this recording?
I\'ve never heard a more beautiful version of this song..
More good movie music from Knopfler on the Local Hero soundtrack. Great movie too.
