There's a neat little lass and her name is Mary Mac
Make no mistake, she's the girl I'm gonna track
Lot of other fellas want to get up on her back
But I think they're gonna have to get up early
Chorus:
Mary Mac's mother's making Mary Mac marry me
My mother's making me marry Mary Mac
Well I'm going to marry Mary for when Mary's taking care of me
We'll all be feeling merry when I marry Mary Mac
Kaiyut-little-ottle-eetle-ottle-eetle-um
This wee little lass she has a lot of class
She has a lot of brass and her mother thinks I'm gas
I be a silly ass if I let the matter pass
But her mother thinks she suits me rather fairly
Now Mary and her mother gang an awful lot together
In fact you hardly see the one without the other
And the lads often wonder if it's Mary or her mother
Or the both of them together that I'm courtin'
I said, well bonnie lass, where you gonna spend the day?
She said, among the heather and the hills of Banoffee,
Where all the boys and girls are makin' it for free,
Up among the heather and the hills of Banoffee
The wedding's on Wednesday, everything's arranged
Soon her name will change to mine unless her mind be changed
I'm makin' the arrangements and I feel a bit deranged
For marriage is an awful undertakin'
It's sure to be a grand affair and grander than a fair
There's gonna be a coach and pair for every couple there
We'll dine upon the finest fare, I'm sure to get my share
If I don't I'm very much mistaken
There's a wee little lass and her name is Mary Mac
Make no mistake, she's the girl I'm gonna track
Lots of other fellas want to get up on her back
But I think they're gonna have to get up early

Maybe if you got the words right?
Mary Mac's mother's making Mary Mac marry me
My mother's making me marry Mary Mac
Great "Irish Pub" kind of song--IMHO. :)
Good song... but I prefer Great Big Sea's version.

God, I don't know how you can tell the difference...

yes! if you don't like it there's something wrong with you!
*shake head*
now, now, it's *okay* for people to have different opinions.
I think it's shallow but happily catchy, myself. :-)
agree that the Great Big Sea version is better. This is too muddled.

My copy of this song is from Carbon Leaf's Five Alive CD--which I do admit I like better--it's well--LIVE!

Great Big Sea does this so much better.
I've noticed that Carbon Leaf has 9 songs on the main channel, while Great Big Sea has only one. So Great Big Sea uploaders, you know what you have to do, eh?
The first time I heard this song was at a recent concert at the Smoky Hill River Festival in Salina, KS. Just a fun, toe-tapping, sing along song. I admit I haven't heard the Echo, Echo version, just the 5 Alive presentation.
I like this song, it's funny

I don't know why I'm enjoynig this song - I must be in a strange mood. Anyway, now that you've joined, don't forget to sign up for Recurring Donations. RP is awesome!

4, that is my final answer
Great Big Sea does this so much better.
All hail Carbon Leaf. And all things celtic.
This is the only song on the playlist that I can't stand--- Hootenanny, anyone?

Aye, good drinkin' music...now shut up and nug yer beer.
Newfies do this so much better but a good effort all the same.
ok this needs to end. reminds me of that silly cotton eye joe song from the early 90s
maybe it's because I'm at work, but this song hurts my head.

These guys cover that one, too ;)

Sounds like an Outback Steakhouse commercial.
Our 3 1/2 year old daughter absolutely adores this song. When I get home from work, we always put on music and dance around the living room. 9 times out of 10, this is what she requests. Two or three times at a go, mind you. So yeah, I'm sick of it. But dancing with my daughter, and encouraging her love of music: I'll pay any price.
On balance, the whole record is pretty cool. The intersection of pop, punk, and irish pub music.
I dig it! Makes me think of The Rattling Bog
Seems there's a lot of misplaced energy in this song. The elements sound good but together UGH. The whole is less than the sum of its parts.
Come on folks! This is just plain fun! Lighten up already! (admittedly, this is the first time I've heard it)
OK a time or two, and infrequently, but getting too much play here --- waste of bandwidth.
Merry Merry Christmas... Mary Mary Mac... This Mary Mary blows. Sounds like an Outback Steakhouse commercial.

MMM beer...
Exactly! Where's my Guinness? Oh at that crowded Irish Pub where the rain-spattered windows are fogged up and Carbon Leaf is playing...
Although physically impossible.
This song both sucks and blows at the same time.
Uhhgghh - if this isn't a 1 star, i don't know what is!
Sucko-Barfo!
Hmm... I've had to put up with hearing this song in various identical versions for a long time. I don't really know why I hate it so much. But I do. Hate it.

Mad rush for the door!
I don't mind it, but I'm not exactly impressed. This is a full-on meh.
I'd gladly watch it live
I like the version by Pink Floyd a lot better. No wait, that's not right...
I guess the lyrics are too fast for some of the slower minds out there!
Great song!
Not bad, but I much prefer Great Big Sea's version.
Sounds like a bar band, nothing more.

that's hilarious! This is my first time, so I'm laughing and clapping. Next time I hear it, I'll make sure to keep the windows closed.
Whooo Hoooo! That's always fun. :)
ARGHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!
brain hurt brain hurt owowowowow
If you can imagine - they speed up even more during live shows. I don't know how Barry gets the lyrics out!
My head wants to explode!!!
:bananabanger: :bananabanger: :bananabanger:
If I even TRIED to rattle that lyric off my tongue would probably fall out.... showoff.
Faster... Faster...
It\'s like a Wolfstone copycat band. Cool!
Sally sells sea shells by the sea shore.
Peter Piper picked a peck of pickled pepers...
How much wood would a woodchuck chuck?...

I was thinking I really hated this song and had no use for it whatsoever until I read this comment. I agree, the only good use for it would be a morning wakeup call.umm, ahhh, what\'s the second word under \"radioparadise.com\" up there?
Thumbs down

I know what you mean. All of you, I mean. Because when I hear this song, one moment I\'m saying \"Me want to drink beer and try to Riverdance, don\'t care who\'s watching!\" - and the next moment I\'m wishing it would end already.

That's pretty much how it's going for me, too. Every time I hear it I come to check my rating and say "no, that's too high."
This thing's losing air. Or taking on water.
I find my jaw involuntarily clenched during this song. Generally not a good thing.

Hey hey! Richmond Virginia's own Carbon Leaf makes it to RP! Gotta love it. Carbon Leaf has been bumping around here in Richmond and the Mid Atlantic area for years now, and they're just fantastic. Most of their stuff is celtic flavored like this and it's all really strong. They won a CMJ Magazine/American Music Award last year as the best unsigned band in America. Check em out: www.carbonleaf.com

My thoughts exactly. I'll have to track down some of their stuff.

I haven't heard theirs, but I personally prefer Hair of the Dog's version. Something about the singer's timing in this version doesn't do it for me.
Something about this song is like a SCHOOLHOUSE ROCK cartoon and song. Is there a cartoon for this?
I would have to agree with those in favour of Great Big Sea\'s version of this song. However, I\'m sure I\'ll be looking for more music by this band. Another band to add to my celtic styled collection.
Noooooooooooooo!
Hmm. I like Great Big sea\'s version much better.

Yes, and it sounds like Carbon Leaf has heard Great Big Sea's version. Not much different.
Wheee, that was fun!

Traditional, which this song actually is:

First time I\'ve heard it. So far, so good, nice!
I have no idea what to think about this song, but I\'m glad you play this kind of stuff.
Fast, fun, enjoyable. Like it!
Wheeeee!
