love the run but not the race
all alone in a silent way
world drifts in and the world's a stranger
in a light, eclipsed and alienated
in a time, occupied and invaded
can't tell what's right, better hit the ground running
in the hills where the tall weed grows
hands are tied and won't let go
can't escape this place without leaving the world behind
in a light, ashamed and humiliated
in a time, sacrificed for the sake of trade
the soul is bent, feels the weight of truth
falling through
left behind, no choice but to run to the mountains
where no poppies grow, you have to hit the ground running
in a light, paralyzed and spirits fading
out of time, must decide to fall or run
into the eye, of the storm no sign or omen
make it right, or fall to the other side
where fields are burning
from the day you're born
you'll always hit the ground running
all alone in a silent way
world drifts in and the world's a stranger
in a light, eclipsed and alienated
in a time, occupied and invaded
can't tell what's right, better hit the ground running
in the hills where the tall weed grows
hands are tied and won't let go

I like Robert Plant's and Alison Krauss's cover of this song, but it is so nice to hear this again.

I like the grove on this one, profound lyrics or not, although I thought it was hard to drift with an AWD car like a Quattro
I'm rating it an 8.

Great band - great song. Nice one, bill.
Superb. Another band RP opened my eyes to.
Has the rhythm section eloped from Lord Huron (World Ender) heard earlier?
9 for the guitars, -2 for the singing.
Love Calexico. Digging this song.

Dancing around in our pajamas, much turkey-scented farting! Happy Black Friday... we're goin' to Wal-Mart NOW!
Perfection. 10
Can never go too far wrong with some Calexico.....
Near perfect. Or maybe perfect.
This is such a fantatstic, beautiful, heart felt song. I get goosebumps every time.
Is this song about racing an Audi?
Lucky to have seen them last night in a relatively small venue... sheer genius... surprised by quite how much they played from Feast of Wire, but certainly not complaining. And what a good bunch of musicians they have surrounded themselves with!
Beautiful
From 9 > 10
I agree. And the trumpeter, your countryman Martin Wenk, is the most gorgeous man I've ever seen!

LOVELY SONG.
I'm assuming these guys have had more than one song played on Weeds - the name would seem to require it.
Toujours un plaisir à écouter ce morceau, superbe groupe!

This is a great album, I keep coming back to it.
How's the rest of this album?
I answered my own question; there are five tracks from it on the RP playlist.

Saw these guys last night under the stars in the Vancouver Folk Fest, superb, but the sound was thinner, it's better balanced here.
Having said that, the pedal steel (photo below) was amazing.

The most important band in music - most people just don't know it yet. . .
One of my top 10 favorite bands around at the moment
Nice song!!

Suck it up David, this is the best way imaginable to tell time. For my money, Calexico is the best band working today.
Ahhh, must be fifteen minutes past the hour (every bl**dy hour), time for yet another Calexico track....

If you like this music I HIGHLY recommend that you see & hear Calexico live if you get the chance! Also, there is quite a bit of their live music available to download for free at Archive.org

This song triggers Sonny Landreth's Congo Square in my brain. Or it did. It seems to be fading....
Stingray, grow up. You've been around the RP block enough to know they are established, distinctive groups. Both did impressive work before collaborating, and after.
...so it is CALEXICO being the magic part of Iron + Wine...?

Yup - I'd heard of Calexico, but never heard them, nor tried to hear them before RP. Now they rate as one of my favourite bands without a doubt.
If you haven't done so, check out their concert in Stockholm, 2003, available from www.archive.org - outstanding.
Their concerts are amazing ... haven't had the chance to see them live yet (but they are coming to Germany in May!!) but have listened to a number of concerts. The Stockholm concert is great, but I think their concert at Roskilde 2000 is just awesome. (It's available for download somewhere, but I don't remember where.)

You're confusing it with "gustar" which IS reflexive, as in "Me gusta Calexico." :)Right?
Reflexive means that the object is the same as the subject, in which case we use "self" in English.
"Me gusta" ("I like it," or more literally "It pleases me") is not reflexive. "Me gusto" ("I like myself") would be reflexive.

I like this song, but I'm not really getting the Dire Straits connection. Must be the horns in the background.
Heard these guys for the first time on "The Bunny," while waiting with the masses to get into Coventry, VT about this time last August. Have been a fan since. pretty solid.
Me likey!
I actually like this reggae better than their regular Mexican Epic attempts.
ditto that earlier snore
Sound a bit like Crowded House (no bad thing, mind)
Bougth this CD thanks to Radio Paradise. Love this song. Just a fabulous sound!
I get to see them at SWSX Friday at a Free Concert! Can't get better than that. I saw them twice with Wilco this summer at Austin City Limits Festival and that was my first experience with them. Since then I love their work and look forward to any opportunity to see them.
I think they are great and they even played a couple of songs with Wilco. Concert should be great this Friday.
