I have set aside everything I love
I have saved everything else for you
I cannot decide what this doubt's made of
Though I've thought over it through and through

In a book in a box high upon a shelf
In a locked and guarded vault
Are the things I keep only for myself
It's your fate but it's not your fault

And for every useless reason I know
There's reason not to care
If I hide myself wherever I go
Am I ever really there?

There is nowhere else I would rather be
But I can't just be right here
An enigma wrapped in a mystery
Or a fool consumed by fear

And for every useless reason I know
There's reason not to care
If I hide myself wherever I go
Am I ever really there?

I will give you all I could ever give
Though it's less than you will need
Could you just forget if you can't forgive
All the things I cannot concede?

And for every useless reason I know
There's a reason not to care
If I hide myself wherever I go
Am I ever really there?

ROCK AND ROLL!!!!!!!!!
Great to hear one of my favorite bands interspersed into the mix. Most of the album is sub-par by the Ladies' standard but I guess they can't be "Everything to Everyone". Oooh sorry, that was bad.
They have never really lost that college feel to their music. Good melodies with some 'tounge and cheek' to their music. Saw them in '93 and the U of A (Alberta, Canada), great fun then, still find them fun. Thanks RP for playing the ladies.
ok gonna take another pass... from T-Bone to this I cant tell where one ended and the other began. I would have to be in the right mood Guess I am not.
They are a good band,- very tight with well-crafted songs. As for the "funny clever witty" schtick..... they really aren't that funny. ...or maybe it's a Canadian thing.......... Just play good songs well.
Really creepy stuff.
Really good stuff.
These guys are great. I am lucky enough to be a sound engineer for a radio station in the UK. They were the guests for an hour on The Fred Macauly Show and just chipped in with musical ditties, a few songs and very funny quips. Punning was rife. Great fun.

They have. But how many bands do you know that are NOT played on radio, yet have huge followings and fabulous music?

I've never understood the "clever and funny" comments. Yeah, some of their songs are funny. Others are sad, haunting, even disturbing (Tonight Is the Night I Fell Asleep at the Wheel).
I couldn't agree more - BNL is (are?) much deeper than it/they seem at first listen. I saw these guys several times at a club in DC in the 90s...they put on a terrific live show. I like seeing bands that actually interact with the audience, do crazy spontaneous things as opposed to just following a set list, playing the music and getting off the stage. BNL is one of those live bands (Crowded House was one, as well). I sort of fell off of the BNL bandwagon once they "went stadium" and started playing large venues. if they ever go back to the smaller shows, I'll be hopping back on.

I've never understood the popularity of these guys. Clever and funny does not a rock band make. If you want clever and funny, They Might be Giants will treat you better than this drivel.

Actually there are many bands that have made their name off of "Clever and Funny". While its true that BNL is not TMBG, that is a good thing. These guys are just trying to have fun and play intelligent pop music. If you don't like it just mute or switch to another station.

you should be so lucky to catch them live. Very talented musicians, amazing energy. Not every song on every album of every artist is going to be their most powerful.

No, that's not it. Guess I was harsh, don't mean to get people all riled up.
But you did snarf and Lion-O surely would not be happy with you disturbing the peace.

Very true, of their live show. They did some inventive stuff with a large gallery of instruments:strings, woodwinds, brass, et al. A friend twisted my arm and I was not sorry I went. Was '98 or '99. Their studio recordings are lukewarm to me.
The comments may be tired and uninspired, but so is this song.

Nice. Better than the stuff on their last album. Or the album before that. or...
somewhat enjoyable (although, i prefer their early stuff) - but kinda high rotation on this one eh? wow.
Tired & uninspired song.

These guys are great. It is so refreshing to hear a band that is talented, witty, intelligent and who don't take themselve too seriously. Keep playing them!

If you ever get a chance to see them live, do so . They're silly and smart and sincere. An incredibly good time.

Yippee! Barenaked Ladies! They are wonderful - witty, insightful, and sometimes profoundly moving. This is a lovely song. O:)
I concur.

I agree. Nothing wrong with being funny and INCREDIBLY talented. Saw these guys at "farm aid" no less a few years ago and was very impressed. laughing while dancing is the best!

If I hide myself wherever I go Am I ever really there? Now there's a question I'll carry around for a while.
These guys continue to surprise me!
First I had heard from this album, despite waiting for it for a while- Sounds great, and it's good to hear it on RP!
"Amy, what you gonna do? Amy, I could stay with you for a while maybe longer with you...."
My mouth just dropped open as I can't believe some new BNL is getting RP play! This song has the most "bluegrass" feel on their new disc, Everything To Everyone. I highly recommend it, it's their most consistent release yet. (BTW, I purchased it through RP's Amazon link!) Thanks, Bill! :D
Cool, I like it. Kind of takes me back to their more serious Maybe You Should Drive days. Kind of blue-grassy. Nifty.
