I got two strong arms
Blessings of Babylon
Time to carry on and try
For sins and false alarms
So to America the brave
Wise men save

Near a tree by a river
There's a hole in the ground
Where an old man of Aran
Goes around and around
And his mind is a beacon
In the veil of the night
For a strange kind of fashion
There's a wrong and a right
But he'll never, never fight over you

I got plans for us
Nights in the scullery
And days instead of me
I only know what to discuss
Oh, for anything but light
Wise men fighting over you

It's not me you see
Pieces of valentine
And just a song of mine
To keep from burning history
Seasons of gasoline and gold
Wise men fold

Near a tree by a river
There's a hole in the ground
Where an old man of Aran
Goes around and around
And his mind is a beacon
In the veil of the night
For a strange kind of fashion
There's a wrong and a right
But he'll never, never fight over you

I got time to kill
Sly looks in corridors
Without a plan of yours
A blackbird sings on bluebird hill
Thanks to the calling of the wild
Wise men's child

Near a tree by a river
There's a hole in the ground
Where an old man of Aran
Goes around and around
And his mind is a beacon
In the veil of the night
For a strange kind of fashion
There's a wrong and a right
But he'll never, never fight

Near a tree by a river
There's a hole in the ground
Where an old man of Aran
Goes around and around
And his mind is a beacon
In the veil of the night
For a strange kind of fashion
There's a wrong and a right
But he'll never, never fight over you

No he'll never, never fight over you

Nik Kerhaw : "the riddle". i was young, i was cool. please come back Nik. in the same time there is an another song i'd like :"dead or alive :you spin me round". Nostalgie ! (je continue en français) A cette époque on aurait tous voulu s'appeler Nik !
Extra cheese on mine, please. Wow, Nik should open his own pizzeria. Even the drum and "piccolo" interlude there near the end...quel fromage.

Aw, gee. Have a heart. It's a good song! Give a little...

We have a saying in America - "do not judge the quality of the song from the tackiness of the sleeve" unless, of course, the sleeve is wearing a heart.
Ooo. Ick.
:propeller.gif: I first heard this in the UK way back when... great pub song for the day - still ok now - I acutally bought the album back then.
One of the reasons I love Radio Paradise... Nik Kershaw sandwiched between old Floyd and Sisters of Mercy. Unquestionably eclectic and certainly intelligent. In the late 80's-mid 90's, I was convinced that Nik Kershaw was what pop music SHOULD sound like - if only artists would spend a little more attention to making their compositions musically interesting. Admittedly, simplicity is often the key to a great pop-tune, but Kershaw managed to weave mind-bending chord changes, keyshifts and modulations into seemingly simply, almost bubble-gum sounding mood lifting songs. But don't let the 80's pop-veneer deceive. Many of his songs are much, much more complex musically than they first appear. He's gone on to ditch much of the synth-pop arrangements in his recent stuff, but it's great to be reminded of how he managed to merge quirk and pop back in the day.
have a soft spot for this song, uncool though it undoubtedly is
Even if this sounds "lightweight" to some, it is actually, from a musical point of view, very interesting music... Nick surely knew how to play with chords.

something wrong here. the title of my browser says: eclectic online rock radio and the description: Eclectic intelligent rock music extremely weird.... :P
Yay... the '80s... This song has memories. Not everyone's cup of tea but it has a nice, if simple, melody.
Wow, just boring music. Like walking into an all white room wearing white.

I believe I might have attempted uploading this a while back, glad to see someone else uploaded it and that it made it to the main playlist.

He sounds like he's holding his nose while he sings... this is beautiful? Fun to hear though once in a while depite what I said earlier.
Nostalgia. . . Somehow the memories of my shitty teen years seems a barely audible echo next to this period piece.

Oh yes, this is good stuff, allright. :) I remember buying this tape(!) back in early 1985, having saved up my allowance for quite a while. (I was nine at the time.) Nik Kershaw was one of my big heroes of the eighties (Howard Jones and A-ha were others), and I still enjoy listening to his music. (The album "Human Racing" is very good as well, his later efforts were less memorable.) Sure, the sound is somewhat dated now, but that goes for a looot of the music from that decade... noyou wrote:

bad, bad, bad. terrible and more. rp is going the wrong way for my ears with this crap.
Nick Kershaw , international man of mystery....
Falls into the category "Musicians we have never missed" Only good for the sentimental 80s-memorial-feel attached to it.
Pretty lightweight stufff...
