White on white translucent black capes
Back on the rack
Bela Lugosi's dead
The bats have left the bell tower
The victims have been bled
Red velvet lines the black box
Bela Lugosi's dead
Undead undead undead
The virginal brides file past his tomb
Strewn with time's dead flowers
Bereft in deathly bloom
Alone in a darkened room
The count
Bela Logosi's dead
Undead undead undead
Back on the rack
Bela Lugosi's dead
The bats have left the bell tower
The victims have been bled
Red velvet lines the black box
Bela Lugosi's dead
Undead undead undead
The virginal brides file past his tomb
Strewn with time's dead flowers

The under and better side of 80s music is still not known to the masses. It was easily the most prolific and creatively diverse period of modern music. The 70's punk scene cracked the music establishment and the 80s forced it open. The creativity went well beyond the new wave music presented to the masses. I was lucky enough to have one of the best college radio stations at my college and got to hear nearly everything out there. I had truly hoped commercial radio would open up in the 90s but alas it still, as always, gets run over by the greed of industry and the short-sightedness of people put in charge.
I know a lot of people like to diss the '80s but back then there were commercial radio stations that would actually play stuff like this, unedited, and not just at 3 AM.
It was a great time. Sorry many of you missed it.

Now there's a song you don't hear everyday....
Yay, Halloween music!
Guess I listen to a lot of Halloween Music other times of the year...
What a fantastic song from a great band. Peter Murphy is a god.

Brilliant!! My scary weekend is made. Saw Bauhaus in a reunion tour in Toronto a few years back. Suburban dads there with kids, goths, such a mixed crowd. Missed them in their hey day.
Do miss the days CFNY in Toronto used to play their New Years countdown. It was #1 for years.
THANK YOU!!

Love it too. Remember I had in 1980 a Seattle T-shirt with the name of Seattle written on it in with Seattle buildings as letters, Space needle as a T for sure. Don't worry, those multimillion condo's are shrinking already, as do their inhabitants.
Reminds me of my days runninig around wild and crazy in Seattle back in the early 80's before the Yuppies found and ruined that fine city with their Microsoft millions! Back then Seattle had more of an earthy edge to it, and it was a far friendlier city too — not to mention easier to drive in. I recall jagged images of going to Tugs on First Ave in Belltown, the first video bar in the city, and dancing with all the other Gay folks and other social misfits. Kind of a seedy neighborhood then full of edgy artists, Queers and winos, now all trendy with multi-million dollar condos. Sigh . . . .
Anyway, I loves this tune.

This was "our song" back in the late 80s. Then we kinda figured it was maybe not so romantic.
1980s. University. Dance floor. I'm so there, right now.
10.
10.
Yeah baby...
ah well, too eclectic for me...
NOW it's Halloween.
Thanks for playing this, I loved the movie the Hunger, this has made my halloween!!!!!

I had forgotten this great song! I'd love to hear the live version again.
It's "Undead Undead Undead" I think
This is one of the first songs to go on my Halloween mix. Earlier I heard Every Day is Halloween by Ministry...
This is why I LOVE this stream.
THANKS RP!!!

Oh yeah - deliriously creepy vocal. 'The Hunger' - amazing opening sequence - the band on stage behind chainlink fencing...

Is there a better example of eerie perfection, of a sound so evocative you can almost smell the black lipstick? Far too good for merely annual play.
Great!!!
Thanks.
I haven't heard in a LOOONG TIME>>>>>>>

Actually, Wood had his wife's chiropractor fill in for Lugosi, which is even funnier (or sadder, depending on your point of view).
YAY! YAYAYYYY! YAY!! YAY!! * Does a happy dance* This takes me BAAAACK to my old goth days!! YAY for RP!!! THANKS BILL!!!!!! Happy HALOWEEN!!!!!
Absolutely freaking classic. I hope this is the 9 minute version.
Yay!! I don't have to dig it out now. I listen to this every Halloween.
THANK YOU!
YES! YES! YES!

Thanks For Playing This Great Song.
I love halloween.
I used to have a blue 12 inch vinyl record with this song on it. The B side was a song called, "Boys".
Talk about a flashback to my teenage years!! Happy Halloween everyone.

The live version of this song is a definite 9.
Agreed.
OK, NOW we're really getting somewhere.
I see, through the smoke, David Bowie and Catherine Deneuve....

DON'T LET ME DOWN BILL - Play it!!!
The live version of this song is a definite 9. This one, on the other hand, only gets a 6 from me. Too much studio trickery, and not enough raw energy.
By the way, in Plan 9, after Lugosi died, much of his part was played by Ed Wood's dentist--a man who was about a foot taller than Lugosi.
Anyway, I think Bauhaus were just riffing on the irony of a guy who made his career playing the undead, actually dying. There's not a real connection to Plan 9 in the lyrics.

Yeah, but it sounds pretty good anywhere.

Pity that all the solo Peter Murphy I uploaded was rejected. Would have been a nice addition to the regular playlist.
More PM and Bauhaus could only help RP. :-)
Yes, that is a shame - i'll have to check the rejected ones - maybe there's another worth trying?

Appropriately creepy. But isn't there a Cure song that might fit in here? There must be....

Just the right combo of creep and techno trance music. This is THE song that made Bauhaus a band.
For those that don't know this song is a reference to the old Ed Wood movie Plan 9 from Outer Space. During the filming of the movie Bela Lugosi died due to natural causes, leaving Ed Wood an unfinished movie. So the remaining portions of Bela's part were played by Ed Wood obscuring his face, or cutting in previously shot footage. All this led to some very interesting rumors, and a John Malkovic parody (Nesferatu?) a few years ago.
What about Burton's film "Ed Wood"?
I used to have an unhealthy obesssion with this band back in High School. And I still drop a disc in every Halloween. Great to hear this today on RP.
BTW, isn't that "UNdead, UNdead, UNdead?"
An Amazing Song.
The live version from their album "Press The Eject and Give Me The Tape" is superior to the studio version as heard here, but I will take Bauhaus and Peter Murphy anyway RP sees fit to distribute it.

Great song. Great to hear it on here.
Great - takes me back to university days - haven't thought 'bout Bauhuas in years - must dig out my BBC Sessions album they did!!

OMG! I can't believe this is playing. I forgot all about this song! One of the Bauhaus best. Peter Murphy's voice at it's finest!
This has a place on the regular playlist!!!!! PLEASE?

You have just made my day! I've been thinking that RP needed more (some) Bauhaus. Yeah Bill!
totally cool and creepy!!
(pimp)
how come bill's been in my living room checking my vinyl long play legacy shelves...? again!
if this is followed by "sabrina" from einstürzende neubauten, i'll update the alarm systems.
same if the next song is from wolfsheim or the cranes.
