Are you aching for the blade?
That's OK, we're insured
Are you aching for the grave?
That's OK, we're insured
We're getting away with it all messed up
Getting away with it all messed up
That's the living
Daniel's saving Grace
She's out in deep water
Hope he's a good swimmer
Daniel plays his ace
Deep inside his temple
He knows how to serve her
We're getting away with it all messed up
Getting away with it all messed up
That's the living
We're getting away with it all messed up
Getting away with it all messed up
That's the living
Daniel drinks his weight
Drinks like Richard Burton
Dance like John Travolta
Now
Daniel's saving Grace
He was all but drowning
Now they live like dolphins
We're getting away with it all messed up
Getting away with it all messed up
That's the living

This came on just as I's about to head down to Pearl Street for a night on the town... I am super-psyched to be singing along to the wicked line, "Drinks like Richard Burton...Dance like John Travolta..." because that's exactly what I intend to do; SAME AS IT EVER WAS! Thanks, RP, and James, for the Inspiration!

Fresh from James gig at the Co op Arena in Manchester last Friday I reiterate they are one of the greatest live bands ever. And Manchester’s own! Awesome. And the new album is excellent too.
First his neighbors are complaining about the sex noises, and now he's trying to get away with it all. I don't like the sound of this James guy.

Has anyone seen the film 'Saving Grace'?
Is this song inspired by the film? I've always wondered. Does anyone know?
Just for clarity - I like the song and i liked the film.

Bumping this up from an 8 to a 9. Ever since I heard this one come around on RP a couple of years ago it gets stuck in my head from time to time. Signs of a great one if you ask me.

Way way way too repetitive. Ugh.

Great later period James, love their approach and view of the world, plus great front man dancing....
This band is so underated. Apart from this one, radio stations tend to play the same 3 or 4 hits over and over, but they have done some great songs aside from the popular ones.
OMG i'll never forget the ethel merman comment
Brilliant band, brilliant track. If it's gay then fine, who cares.... it's not a disease you know?

Why is it a neurosis, when I state "very gay"? My neurosis or yours...?
Just kidding! The song is OK - but the Stranglers, Vibrators or Clash are definitely less gay!

I'm sorry.
I just have a personal prejudice against songs that repeat one lyric over and over,
backed up by relentless, repetitive drum bashing and one-note guitar solos.
EDIT: Unless it's Neil Young...
Agreed. Except for the Neil Young part.

After the first 10-20 seconds I thought:" oooh, who's that?"
Then I checked and wondered it was "JAMES".
I knew the name of the band
of course, but not their music!
I liked this first 10-20 seconds - have to admit that!
(but have to insist it was just that - 20 sec. max).
Then I read the critics, while the song was continuing!
And yes, soon had to agree that it was just a silly little song!
I give it a 3, though!
And that means,
"No, James, I did not let you get away with it!"

wmstadler wrote:

It takes a ton of willpower not to do it though, even if you don't believe in it, when everyone around you starts doing it because one jerk did.
But then I'm in that weird school where concerts in a theatre (i.e. you have a ticketed seat) are sit-down and enjoy non-participatory deals, whereas concerts in small bar and club venues are all about being crazy fans.
I HATE it when the audience claps to the music.

Ho-Hum = 3
This song is just almost a 3, but I'll give it a 3 for mentioning John Travolta.
Don't know why I originally rated this a 6. Downgraded to 2, and closing in on a 1.
I like the song, but crowd noise always drops it a few points for me. You just have to be there.
Good Grief! I had to get myself up from the counter to come all the way in here to turn this annoying noise down. What the crap.
yea, well I like it

Having apparently missed the whole James thing, "3 – Ho Hum" does it fer me.
There are few bands that I cannot find SOME redeeming value...but James is one.
