Over the sea and far away
She's waiting like an iceberg
Waiting to change
But she's cold inside
She wants to be like the water

All the muscles tighten in her face
Buries her soul in one embrace
They're one and the same
Just like water

The fire fades away
Most of everyday
Is full of tired excuses
But it's to hard to say
I wish it were simple
But we give up easily
You're close enough to see that
You're the other side of the world to me

On comes the panic light
Holding on with fingers and feelings alike
But the time has come
To move along

The fire fades away

Can you help me?
Can you let me go?
And can you still love me
When you can't see me anymore?

The fire fades away

Just asked my wife which record she wants me to put on. She said "This one."

Done (after the song ended).

This song is just amazing, to me.  LOVE IT!

It is sublime.  It is a special talent to really impart a mood/emotion with sophisticated yet spar lyrics combined with the music and performance necessary to make it magic.  Like what Joni Mitchell and Steely Dan do so well.
What a GREAT song!

Funny, after several years listening to RP I've never "noticed" KTT's stuff enough make me click on one of her songs.

But today I heard a song on the car radio, thought the voice sounded engaging (maybe even familiar?), and I managed to catch the words "like an iceberg / all facial muscles".

Google did the rest, and here I am commenting!

Hope I get to hear it in full before long..

One of the best composed pop songs of all time.
Love it !!!

too many female artists on RP IMHO

Actually, I find that RP does a great job of including music from all genders (there are now more than 2 since your original post), and from different ethnicities as well.  That's what makes it such a great music site!

The infrequent (thankfully) posts that are sexist or racist in nature just pre-judge music that can really only truly be judged on its own merits.  AND, as my Dad (RIP) taught me, most generalized comments say far more about the person who states them, than they do about the subject on which they comment.
I'm well on my way to owning KT's entire catalog; I think she's pretty amazing.

Nonsense. KT rocks!

You can see the hate for female artists on Radio Paradise in the relative ratings of the songs. RT is the only station that consistently plays female artists.  Sexists always say that equality between women and men is "too much." It's their brand.

Love KT. Thank you, RT for bringing to to us.

I haven't heard any KT in awhile. I had forgotten how much I love her music.
Agreed, what a great pairing.  REM and KT.

Why would you even admit that publicly?  I'm not a fan of puppies but I also understand that it's not a popular opinion.

Fantastic!  The lyrics are so thoughtful! I hope she comes to Toronto.  I would see her in a minute!

Such a good CD - love it.
Played too much, not necessarily by RP, but KT is better than this song. She's awesome w/Oi Va Voi.

Agreed {#High-five} There is nothing mediocre about this song or the album. She is an excellent song writer. Those who disagree need to take a closer listen to her tunes. And for all those who complain about all the female singers with the whispery, little girl voices played on RP....KT is for you, she can belt out a song.

Oh, there's no end to the number of crap bands that claim to be huge fans of the Beatles or whatever. It clearly isn't the same as claiming to be influenced by them.
KT Tunstall on going green Singer-songwriter KT Tunstall has become one of a growing number of performers who are making their concerts greener. klik the link above to watch a recent interview on Scottish Television about this ever pertinent issue. Good on ya KT!

I'm sure that all RP listeners have seen that she is doing a big campaign selling downloads of her new album at Starbuck's. Clever! Someone at her label's marketing department has been working overtime.
This song will resonate our elevators, doctors & dental offices for many years to come. In other words, I don't like it.
Not a fan of this woman I find it bland and simple. 2/10

Wow. for the first few moments I thought this was coldplay. Very similar sound at first...
Pretty good - this is the only other song I've heard of hers other than the big hit. I'll have to check out some more!

Borrowed this album from my kids months ago. Now I won't give it back. It stays in my car and gets a lot of play time. Great album. Can anyone recommend other KT works? Didn't she play with a band in England before her solo career?
Love her growly voice!

I'm not familiar with her but she is clearly holding back. I bet she is a monster live in a small room. Turn off the electricity with Dido and you've got, well, nothing I believe. Turn off her brothers arrangements and all you have is the tiny little voice.
Nice...
Bill, "Eye of the Telescope"?
Bee-yoo-tee-full!!

Tracks 1 and 2 alone are worth the price of the CD. Now if iTunes would only get Oi Va Voi's "Refugee" available...
this is heaps better than that awful "woo-hoo" song

I'm into unique lead female vocals. I give KT a 9 just for Other "Side of the World". Nice control and great pitches KT!

What are you talking about?!?! XM is GREAT! Since I can't yet take Radioparadise with me while I'm in the car, XM saves me from mediocre FM radio every single time I hit the road. Sure, there are a couple stations like the Starbucks channel (which, over all, is still a pretty good channel) that repeat songs a bit more then they ought to, but all in all, XM is invaluable in today's crap loaded FM environment. Not to mention, every once in a while - even while at work, I'm in the mood for something a bit different then Radioparadise (SAY IT AIN'T SO!!). At those times, I turn on my XM Online. No recovery needed, it's just a well rounded listening experience.

Yeah, that got me interested too, and lead to buying the CD. I find that nothing else on the CD quite matches the energy of Black Horse and the Cherry Tree, but it's a good disc.

I'm curious....how much of this comment is affected by the fact that the writer & the artist playing are both from Scotland? Hmmmmn. Well, she's no Eddi Reader, but the vocals are soothing and soaring, so a 7 from me. Nice tune.

If it was not so overproduced might be better. Like someone said, a bit like Sarah Harmer...would have liked a version by her.
This kinda sounds like discussing politics - "you're the other side of the world to me"
I likey Furthermore - the entire CD plays well.
white bread. fluffy, plain white bread.
as i say again: "woo hoo"!
The only other thing I've ever heard by her is "Attack of the Killer Owl Background Singers" "Black Horse and the Cherry Tree." I like her when she's unaccompanied by repeated "woo-hoo"-ing.

nice radiopop
I'll gladly admit that I have some weakness for well-arranged, evocative pop, but this is a little bit too MOR/Adult Contemporary for me. Edit: Yeesh, I see that I already said almost exactly the same thing 3 weeks ago. At least I'm consistent. I'd forgotten I'd ever heard it.
