I'm just a Stones fan... there's just something about Mik's jag!!!!
blah, blah, blah it sounded alright the first few times

oh what i meant by not recalling how they were back in the day was that i'm too young to remember them when they were in their prime (although i would argue that they still are, or have gotten back to it). i've heard 40 licks. yes it is, indeed, a great album. my sister's a big stones fan, too. incidentally, i spent 7 years of my life in abbotsford. your post jumped right out at me. :)
Okaaay...enough of this song. I think the Rolling Stones have a MUCH larger catalog than just this song.

He said that when he explained why he thought the Stones were much more than only a rock 'n' roll band. They play many styles of music. He always looked that way, as far as I remember and I would rather call it a (typically English?) sort of understatement (or being cool).

I have to say, this rocks. Album cover reminds of Wings' Back to the Egg. If anyone remembers that one...
Not bad considering they are antiques now. I like the tune about Rain or Rain Come Down from this album more.
Sick of this one now. Kind of embarrassing double (single?) entendre lyrics.
Sounds like an outtake from "Some Girls". Which is not a bad thing.
OK, it has energy. However, it still sounds, at best, like the best RS cover band I've ever heard.
And that's why I love Keith Richards so much. I think the mid-tempo stuff on this album is actually better, but this is a respectable entry, which is more than you can say for a lot of "Bridges to Babylon."
Keith Richards has said that they fully realize there are a only a few truly original ideas in the total of all their songs. He cited Jumping Jack Flash from Satisfaction as an example of a derivative. "We do what we do, building on what's gone before, which musicians have always been doing." He went on to say "there is only one song, all the rest is nicked". stevo_b wrote:
Cha Ching!!!! I have been trying to think of the song they were doing.... Knew they were ripping themselves off.

I thought the Stones had done all their good songs, and then this killer gutsy rocker comes out. Way to go Stones!!
I've never been a Stones fan, but this is pretty good. If only McCartney could still rock like this.
I've been in the "Stones are irrevelant" camp since I saw them on the Steel Wheels tour. When I first heard this song, my initial reaction was that it was more pre-fab contractual obligatory mush. But today I was illuminated. That intro really snagged me and wouldn't let go. Maybe they are dinosaurs, but methinks they can still stomp most of the Bambies in our present pop music culture.
Can someone please explain to me why this is getting so much air time? I can see maybe once a month it might be worth playing just for the humor of how much the Stones suck now, but twice in 3 days?
not bad for the old geezers..... lol!!!
Nope.
Ugh, this is such a blatant Stones ripoff--oh. Never mind. It's actually not bad.
"Can you imagine the Rolling Stones still touring when they're 50 years old?" Great line from the movie "Almost Famous," set in the early 1970s.
I don't care what anyone says. This rocks. Classic Stones.
The first time I heard this it was fun to see how much the stones have slipped, the second time was annoying, and the countless time makes me want to break things. PLEASE NEVER PLAY THIS CRAP AGAIN
Saw a news piece on the Stones a couple of nights ago, with interviews with the band and behind the scenes stuff. Very interesting. The shows take about 14 hours of prep work (building the stages, testing the sound system, deciding playlist order, etc.) Jagger seemed almost humble about it all (yeah, I couldn't believe it, either!) And after the sound check, the band applauded all the roadies and crew people... it was quite admirable. Charlie Watts had just been recovering from throat cancer, and when asked if the knowledge that he had cancer had changed his outlook on his choice of profession, he said, paraphrased, "Well, I knew I was gonna look bad for awhile , and I did look pretty bad, but I'm okay now, and I feel privileged to still be here, doing what I do for such appreciative audiences." Ron Wood, of course, was funny. Just as he began a sentence about how he and Keith are so in synch they sometimes seem to be clairvoyant, Keith walked into the room. "Heard you talkin' 'bout me," he grinned. They both erupted into laughter, and the interviewer was momentarily speechless. No matter what anyone says about the Stones or their music, they've worked their assets off to get where they are, and if they wanna rock and roll until they're a hundred, I'll continue to enjoy their music, unless it becomes obvious that they're not enjoying it anymore and are only doing it for the money (a la Warrant and Skid Row, who played a casino here awhile back, sans the lead singers.) It was obvious to me that Jagger, Richards, and the rest of the band aren't bored, lacking money, or suffering from starved egos. They just plain love going out there and performing, and the reviews don't seem to mean much at all to them. I'll stop listening when Jagger and Richards start doing Van Halen covers (a la Paul Anka) or when Charlie Watts does backing drums for William Shatner.
Not a bad tune, but...I can't get away from it anywhere so my rating keeps going down a notch every umpteenth time I hear it. #-o
I had my recently implanted humor chip checked and re-booted. Seemed it was working fine. Could it be the humor in your writing is too well concealed? The tune is good. Stones have long been repetitive, but they repeat smth that works very well. Live--they still blow the doors off. srbarry wrote:

wait 8O I'm over 40 too! I remember taking my kids to see them...and they're grown up now too! :D
Damn, I hope I've got that much life in me when I'm hitting 60.
Rock royalty getting together for a little fun & why not? They certainly earned the right....
At least this is one I haven't heard a thousand times before. Not bad.

Not a huge Stones fan (I echo the comment below - pretty much everything after Some Girls is not so good in my opinion). This is no exception. They played here (Ottawa) last night. Rumor has it that they are sticking around for a couple of days to start work on shooting a video for this song. Pretty big buzz.

The new Stones songs (meaning anything after Some Girls ...ok, maybe I'll reluctantly go all the way up to Tattoo You) suck so friggin' bad. Goddamn it's painful. At least it can't hurt their "real" tunes.

Jeez, got it out of your system now? The RS, like so many other artists have done, are gonna keep working 'til they drop. It's their job, it's what they do. I think that's fine. As for the tours, don't buy the ticket, though several million people will choose otherwise. They get airplay on RP about commensurate with their musical contribution. Push the mute button, as you would for any song you don't like, if it bothers you so much.

I mean where will it end? What if they're eighty and still touring? Ninety? Anyone for the "Steel Wheel(Chair)s" tour? What's to stop them? Not you nor I. Maybe Mick really did make a deal with the devil - his soul for 100 years of rockin. That would mean another 35 years! Who's to say? Seriously, does anyone think that Mick will stop voluntarily? Oh, no, no, no. That dude has something to prove. His idea of a farewell tour is to have his hearse driven around the country - 50, 60 cities at least! And what if they find a way to clone themselves? Oh my god, Stones Clones!! The Stem Cells Tour!! Mick has probably got a half dozen Pod-Micks growing in his basement! And geez, what if I don't outlive Keith - where's the fairness in that?! ARRRRGGGG!!!!!!!

"Brown Sugar" without the cowbell. ;-) Much as I typically don't care for the Stones, ya gotta be dead not to at least tap your foot to this one. Likeable anyway.

I'm still waiting for Mick to make good on his promise regarding still singing "Satisfaction" at 50... That being said, I like most of what I've heard off the new album...
Oh. My. Gawd. Keith Richard's still alive! And he can still play guitar! The Stones are one of those bands that I can listen to for hours, as long as I don't have to actually see them. Never heard this song before, but I LIKE it! Reminiscent of "Brown Sugar," but with the razor-edge of "When the Whip Comes Down." Yay, and yay again. They still got it. Don't understand all the "yuck" comments, unless it's because people still expect "19th Nervous Breakdown" out of a band who's evolved into a more finely-tuned, savvy bunch of guys (I miss Bill Wyman, who didn't evolve so much as he lapsed into a second childhood.) Change happens (except in vending machines) and the Stones have changed. Their saving graces are still Jagger's idiotic prancing, rubbery-faced expressions, and Bob-Dylan-on-a-good-day vocals, and Keith Richard's guitar. And that's good enough for me.
Someone's got to stop these guys.
I'm giving it a "contingency 7." Could go up, could go down...

It could have done without the "spontaneous" guitar intro, IMO, but apart from that..........they got me rocking again! I hardly expected that anymore. Shamelessly (and quite successful) duplicating their early seventies (and Some Girls) past (with Ron Wood doing the Mick Taylor sort of slide-guitar parts), but who cares if it still works?!

Wow, much better than the other song I've heard off the album. This is what I would call some classic sounding Stones. I have to say that now I'm curious to hear some more songs off this album.
YUCK!!!!!!!!!!!!
This is the first new Stone's song I've heard in probably 10 years, and now I know why.
I was here!! \:D/
