Mama says truth is all that matters
Lyin' 'n' deceiving is a sin
Drifting through a world that's torn and tattered
Every thought I have don't mean a thing

Don't stop, don't stop the dance
No, more music, don't stop the dance

Mama says love is all that matters
Beauty should be deeper than your skin
Living for the moment - lips and lashes
Will I ever find my way again

Don't stop, don't stop the dance
No, more music, don't stop the dance
Don't stop, don't stop the dance

Don't stop, don't stop the dance

Mama says only stormy weather
Don't know why there's no sun in the sky
Footsteps in the dark come together
Got to keep on movin' or I'll die

Don't stop, don't stop the dance
No, more music, don't stop the dance
Don't stop, don't stop the dance
No, more music, don't stop the dance
Don't stop, don't stop the dance

you forget just how good some musicians are ... I listen openly to some of the so called greats of today and wonder where the inspiration is - by the way, I am 102 years old, thank you.

Bryan has continued to marvel me with his music for quite some time.

But it’s really great crap, Mrs. Presky.

Borderline classic album.

For me, personally, it is a classic. I love the gorgeous, atmospheric production.
great song, makes me happy  :)

Anxiously waiting with bated breath for your next detailed review.
Smoother than a cashmere codpiece....
{#Hearteyes}
EVEN if he had only done this and not done stuff like the gems on Avalon and Olympia, this would n should earn him Rock Immortality.
Brilliant album - one of the ultimate romantic albums of all time.  So many amazing memories.....! {#Cool}

I still find it difficult to differentiate between Ferry solo and Roxy albums around this time. All were, ahem, essential hydraulic exercise soundtracks.
Love this....
Ahead of its time, I'd say, when you look at the house and ambient grooves that followed.

I was born in the fifties but I too grew up in the eighties! Brian was an influence in that.

Mighty odd transition going from the gentle Americana sound of Some Say Leland to this 80s pop.  I think I might like it.
I gotta admit, I appreciate the nostalgic value of this tune.  {#Propeller}

Very well could be. According to Wikipedia he played on Boys and Girls but I can't find a specific song reference.
Bass player has best job in the world.

What, yuck for *all* "80's music"? That would be a bit extreme. Roxy Music were very 80s, right enough, and like Spandau Ballet were redolent of yuppies, and amoral/apolitical hedonism, with unpleasant undertones of fascist chic (Bryan Ferry did love his army uniforms). Still, IMO they came out with some catchy stuff, and this was a decent enough number. 6 from the Nottingham jury.
I agree with you it's a decent enough number. Kind of like a summer page-turner you can dance to. That is a lot of baggage to attach to a dance song. Not sure how fascism is involved at this time so I'll give it a TEN

Couldn't agree more.

There's a first time for everything. Yeah, I agree with PG.
AMG describes Ferry's music in this period, and with later Roxy contributions, as "elegant." I agree.
I was thinking that this has a very naughty tone, then checked out the album cover...
Is there an emoticon for "cheese." Funny. But still pretty cheesy.
this one came from the bottom of the box....

Not too much from this particular "era" of music that I miss... with some notable exceptions -- this being one of them. Just a very cool song when all the rest had annoying hooks and bizzaro studio sounds added -- this one has stood my test of time. Very listenable. Smooth, sexy, another time... (I'm talking about me, not the song... ) HA!

Don't know if I want to make out during a song that talks about mama!

And what a fine cheese it is. This is 80's dance-pop taken to the enth degree. "Boys and Girls" features the work of David Gilmour, Mark Knopfler, Marcus Miller (a Miles Davis alumnus) David Sanborn and Tony Levin and some of the highest production values I've heard on a pop record. The first time I played the SACD-surround version I was swept away by the sonics and soulful precision. I'd pair this "cheese" with a vintage Champagne.
Quite a group, I'll admit. I still don't like it.
Don't stop...

For once we agree. Just goes to show anything is possible on RP, and that 10% shows glimmers of clarity.

The only redeeming part of this block which no doubt will repeat often.

Just saw some recent pics of this fellow. He's still quite a looker..... considering he'll be 61 in September! and that voice! Dont' stop the dance!
Helchat, I think this song is worthy of a banana party. Maybe a subdued banana party though. Is there such a thing?
Makes me think of a warm day at the beach with an iced tea, cool waves, and beautiful people.
Ahhhhh....one of Bryan's finest!
bland ferry, pass the soy sauce....so much better he has done....

hey, I'm in a good mood, what can I say? You're right on a certain level though. Banana parties should be reserved for highly festive music, like something by Bob Marley.
