I said who's that girl there?
I wonder what went wrong so that she had to roam the streets
She don't do major credit cards, I doubt she does receipts
It's all not quite legitimate
And what a scummy man
Just give him half a chance, I bet he'll rob you if he can
Can see it in his eyes, yeah, that he's got a driving ban
Amongst some other offenses
And I've seen him with girls of the night
And he told Roxanne to put on her red light
They're all infected but he'll be alright
'Cause he's a scumbag, don't you know?
I said he's a scumbag, don't you know?
Although you're trying not to listen
Avert your eyes and staring at the ground
She makes a subtle proposition
"I'm sorry, love, I'll have to turn you down"
Oh, you know he must be up to summat
What are the chances? Sure it's more than likely
I've got a feeling in my stomach
I start to wonder what his story might be, what his story might be
Yeah, 'cause they said it changes when the sun goes down
Yeah, they said it changes when the sun goes down
And they said it changes when the sun goes down around here
Around here, oh
Look here comes a Ford Mondeo
Isn't he Mister Inconspicuous?
And he don't even have to say 'owt
She's in the stance ready to get picked up
Bet she's delighted when she sees him
Pulling in and giving her the eye
Because she must be fucking freezing
Scantily clad beneath the clear night sky
It don't stop in the winter, no
And they said it changes when the sun goes down
Yeah, they said it changes when the sun goes down
And they said it changes when the sun goes down around here
They said it changes when the sun goes down
Over the river going out of town
And they said it changes when the sun goes down around here
Around here
What a scummy man
Just give him half a chance
I bet he'll rob you if he can
Can see it in his eyes that he's got a nasty plan
I hope you're not involved at all

These guys are beyond the hype. Check out the syncopation and the lyrical ease of these musicians. If you're not hearing their originality within the genre then you're not opening your ears enough. Give this album a solid 3-4 listens to get past the hype and you will get it. This is great rock and roll.
Did this dude really use the words "syncopation" and "lyrical ease" in defending the Arctic Monkeys? Stuff the music critic parlance in the hamper with your dirty socks, bud...all I'm hearing from these guys are mediocre Strokes' b-sides. Never mind syncopation...people either like them or they don't...and judging from the comments on this board, they don't! Which is just fine, because any band that gets this big this fast is bound to fall from glory soon anyways (See: Oasis).

You can say that you don't like them. You can call them a bunch of apes. But to say that what they express is not even music clearly shows that you are narrow minded and quite bluntly, ignorant!
This is a radio station, and radio stations play MUSIC.

Ooop, I just woke up!

I've only heard it once and I liked it!
...is that these guys have really only been musicians for 3 years or so. Look at their bio
I'm pretty disconected from any circles that hype bands, RP is about the only thing I listen to anymore. I think these guys are pretty good, I'd like to hear more.

i know these guys are young, but thus far i am NOT impressed
the hype on these guys is so incredibly far out of balance with their actual sound. not very impressed so far.
very lame album cover

A very likable, enthousiastic and talented young band with their musical heart on the right place! It's a shame they became the hype like they are (were), it almost makes it impossible to simply judge their music ... which is actually pretty good (but not overwhelming)

To dance like a manic banana.
Right on, go little bananas!
These guys, despite all the hype, are good. This song has a great hook. And they're only kids, I see big things.
actually the right word was passionate, not pessioned
very passioned ...
I like their aggressive stile

Don't understand the appeal of these guys. I'd like to know how they suddenly became the next "it" band. Says who?
The "it" people, haven't you seen the tv commercials?

I'm not even bothering to try. I think they are just a bunch of yobbos with a guitar and drums and crummy 'lyrics'
This is my favorite songs on this disc
one of my least favorite songs on this disc. the chorus really grates on me.
i do like this album quite a bit though.

OK clearly THE definitive band du jour - but have they really got what it takes to last beyond 1 album??
I hope so. Love the lyrics. "'Cause he's a scumbag..." I know that guy.
It's interesting that Bill was playing these guys a LONG time before the rest of the world noticed them.
I like the genteel nature of the song but I would agree they're on the verge of being overplayed. I think the name is quite ordinary. Lacks imagination.

whew, i hadn't heard a song by these guys for at least two hours.
they arent like the ones i know....but technically i live in the subarctic.....

Why is Arctic Monkeys overplayed? They are an average band and have average songs but I hear at least one of their songs everyday on RP. Kind of overdozed here.

The Arctic Monkeys debut album has just become the fastest selling album of all time here in the UK! Beating Michael Jackson, Madonna and even the Beatles for some strange reason.... I still dont get it really. Even their concert tickets are now selling on Ebay for 20 times their face value.
Hipe
no matter how much I try, I can't get into these guys.
I don't have much of an opinion about the song, but I'm crazy about zipper's animated gif.

Thank God for the Arctic Monkeys, I can now get some work done..............Mute button engaged
TERRIBLE CD!!!
straight forward rock! like it a lot
OK, I'm bored with this song and this band.
Less please.
The Arctic English Boys may be a more suitable name for the band...Not to be mean or anything..there's talent there.I will give it a 6.until I hear it again.
It makes me want to dance.
To dance like a manic banana.
Finally got this album last week. I was not disappointed.
this wakes me up!
Likey

i think these guys are still in high school
Moreover they are in school, high.
After years of rap songs glamorizing the life of pimps, it's really refreshing to hear something like this having mainstream success.
"they're all infected but he'll be all right
Cause he's a scumbag don't ya know"
Plus it rocks. Cool song.
rockin

Quite enjoyed that one...
Makes me laugh.
I think this band would be great live.
I don't know much about music. I do know what is pleasing or meaningful tho.
And this is neither.
a little weird for me.....
