Helping the kids out of their coats, but wait, the babies haven't been born... oh...
Unpacking the bags and setting up, and planting lilacs and buttercups... oh...

But in the meantime, I got it hard - second floor-living without a yard;
It may be years until the day my dreams will match up with my pay...

Old dirt road... (Mushaboom, mushaboom...)
Knee-deep snow... (Mushaboom, mushaboom...)
Watching the fire as we grow (Mushaboom, mushaboom...)
Old...

I got a man to stick it out, and make a home from a rented house, oh-on...
And we'll collect the moments one by one - I guess that's how the future's done... oh, oh-on...

How many acres, how much light tucked in the woods and out of sight;
Talk to the neighbours and tip my cap on a little road barely on the map...

Old dirt road... (Mushaboom, mushaboom...)
Knee-deep snow... (Mushaboom, mushaboom...)
Watching the fire as we grow (Mushaboom, mushaboom...)
Old...

Old dirt road,
Rambling rose... (Mushaboom, mushaboom...)
Watching the fire as we grow... (Mushaboom, mushaboom...)
Well, I'm sold...

Oh...
Oh...

Although I've always liked some of her songs (particularly the Nina Simone cover!), I wouldn't say I was "a fan" per se. But I just got to see her live last week at the wonderful Mariposa Folk Festival (Ontario!) and... wow! What a great artist! From her stage presence to her impeccable singing, mastery of loops and effects, her choice of instruments... it was awesome! Long live Feist!

Snort yourself.  What does 'irony' have to do with the price of fish?  I find the song twee - ineffably so, in fact.  I quite like other Feist songs but this one gives me the irrits.

Kind of a female Steve Fobert vibe.
Ineffably twee.
Like that riff at the end that keeps teasing a fall to the root, then does

Well, it's got a good beat and it's easy to dance to. I'll give it an 8 Mr Clark.

Not a fan. Uses pretty much the same chord progression with some bouncy lyrics that worked before. Time to expand the repertoire Feist.

It seems more like a very distant sort of "remake" with an entirely different chord progression, melody, and structure.  Similar tempo and feeling though.

You mean later Jonathan Richman, right? There was some complexity, and a definite edge, to the early Modern Lovers stuff. JR had a conversion experience later and stopped making songs that "might hurt babies' ears."

 dmax wrote:

I love the reference to Jonathan Richman, but I disagree because I think that Feist is much more commercial (or accessible) than Jonathan. Jonathan Richman is pretty 'out there', but good on him for doing his own thing.

It takes guts to perform an unapologetic romantic song these days.  This works for me still, after hearing it scores of times.
very much in the groove of songs like "Midnight at the Oasis" or "Chuck E's in Love" I like it very much :D

I'm not sure I would generalize it like that but the studio version of this particular song definitely looses something after hearing her perform it alone with an electric guitar at the Junos 3 or 4 years ago (the Junos are like the Canadian Grammys for those who don't know). That really was a powerful and memorable perfomance.
Was that the year she stopped right in the middle of the song and started again? I couldn't figure out what the hell she was doing. Seemed bizarre. But it fit. After all, it's Feist.
feist is. . , well, uh feisty! I like her spunk.

It is, and though that's no doubt good for the band's royalties, it does make the song irritating by association with such a naff ad. 2 from the Nottingham jury.

Edit: I kept hoping, when seeing that ad, that the guy would slip between bollards and land on his, erm, bollards. That'll teach the cocky twat. My, isn't this song just so twee?

I never get tired of this song. The Postal Service remix is also good, but this is great. She's got an odd voice, but I like it.

To clarify - To qualify as CanCon a music must met at least 2 of the four CanCon conditions known as MAPL M- the music is composed entirely by a Canadian A- the artist playing the music is Canadian P- (production) the music was recorded wholly in Canada or played live in Canada and broadcast in Canada. L- Lyrics are written entirely by a Canadian Just so's you know.

sounds strange to me... when a German artist lives in France or Denmark, or even Austria (LOL) he's still a German artist... you just need to have a look into his passport.
New album (The Reminder) comes out tomorrow.
All I said was 'I don't think Neko's Canadian' - and now someone's declaring Feist's nationality? Doesn't anyone go back and follow the progress of these messages?
Actually, she IS Canadian (born in Nova Scotia) but while we give Neko honorary citizenship based on her awesomeness and role within the New Pornographers, she is technically not. But that's okay...We love her anyway.

I LOVE this song!
This is terrible!!!!
Damn. I was honestly going to go straight to the comments and post something like "hey, this sounds pretty good, who's the girl?" And then I have to see out of the corner of my eye (bottom corner) the photos of the sexy girl herself. Now it's gonna sound like I only like her 'cause she's hot. Damn.
Oh no! It took 2 days to get this out of my head last time I heard it! Now I'm gonna walk around singing mushaboom for another 2 days?!?
Mushaboom is one of Ms. Feist's Happy Places: it's a litle community in Nova Scotia with dream, comfort, memory to spare for Leslie.

That sparkling piano ending is feisty indeed!
agreed, feist is great. i saw her perform this summer at the vancouver folkfest. she was awesome, amazing vocals and nice stage presence. her latest album is a solid effort.
