Sleep all day, out all night
I know where you're goin'
I don't think that's acting right
You don't think it's showin'

Jumping up, falling down
Don't misunderstand me
You don't think I don't know your plan
What you tryin' to hand me

Out all night, sleep all day
I know what you're doin'
If you're gonna act that way
I think there's trouble brewin'

9>10 for the howling
a masterpiece of unbridled riff rock  and a cause for air guitar

There was a Pirate radio station in the Vietnam War, Radio First Termer, where the DJ and engineer start howling with the song.  I made an open reel dub of a deep generation tape of the show in 1977, whilst stationed in the UK.

An archive can be found here.
When I was in college I listened to James Gang Rides Again album and got stoned. Every time I listen to it now nearly 50 years later, I still get stoned and now I don’t have to smoke..

This brings back great memories. I think it also revolved around Jeff Beck. Those Sieberg Discotek speakers made it all possible
This changed rock's arc for me - mucho
Automatic volume increase.  Just has to be.

Elemental.  I like that.
It's a great album I still see for cheap in the used record store.

Joe might not care since he's done a tad better than Kenny but both aren't hurting. Too bad for Mozart. Should have learned guitar.

Mozart, what a slob. Should have sold life insurance...or plastics.

Fabulous guitar sound, and great bass playing. And then insane drumming and fun vocals. 8 -> 9. The 70's rocked then and they continue to rock now.
great set of songs, keep it up
I never figured out how Walsh ended up in the Eagles. Styles are just so far apart.
Tom Kriss's bass line is equally epic as Joe's guitar.
Glad the seventies were over!
Thought I was listening to a CAKE intro there for a moment.
You just cant stand still to this song!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
memories...
Pam. Are you listening?
folks basement....
One of my all-time favorite guitar tunes. I only wish they'd release a remaster. Sounds pretty muddy through headphones.
All right. More Arcade Fire!

James gang rides again is a perfect album.  Play anything from that album but same- old same- old funk #49.
Dude! Rock it mama
JAMES GANG    RIDES AGAIN     {#Dancingbanana_2}
yowza! crazy amazing guitar and very stylistic drumming!
Still thrills me like the kid I was when it was first on the radio! Joe made guitar rock sound so primal, so raw, so evocative, SO COOL!

This album is from 1970.  You must mean Arcade Fire sounds like the James Gang. :)
wicked rock man
1970 freshman year at college, ahhhh the first of many tunes that introduced me to Joe Walsh and company!

Now that's the right amount of cowbell!

This song has so many hooks, you can roll around on the album, jump into a lake, and come out with fish dangling  on your body. Honest. I ain't making it up.
Heck yeah baby!

Why is it that this Dave Grohl guy keeps sucking up to RnR gods (Joe W, Paul Mc Cartney)?

He can't play RnR...he chooses the souless, lifleless music form called "thud and drone".

Please Dave.. go kiss the behind of some other "thud and drone band".

Whether Mr. Grohl can play RnR or not, he has a large audience of listeners and he is introducing those listeners to these "gods".  Hell, kids thought Kanye was "introducing" Sir Paul when they had some publicity event!   Someone needs to educate them about the roots of modern music and I appreciate that Mr. Grohl is doing that.

I, for one, made sure my kids knew about this album and it was the one and probably only they all three liked and actually listened to after I forced a first  listen.  It is a kick-ass album from "Funk 49" to "Ashes The Rain And I" (first and last cut).

Good old 70's alternative radio in Atlanta (WPLO-FM) played "Ashes", a very unlike James Gang sound.  I LOVED that song!  None of the stores in Atlanta had ANY idea of who the James Gang were.  I had to go to my local record store and order the album, and wait. After weeks of waiting, the album finally came in, I get the album home, drop the needle on side one song one, and wonder what the hell !  This is nothing like the song I heard on the radio.  But, I sure as hell didn't lift the needle and stop the music, I was too busy turning the volume up and playing air guitar (I can dream, can't I?).

Absolutely one of my desert island albums.

Classic James Gang and maybe my favorite tune by them.
Blues Saraceno's cover was so good...

Yes.
Where is "Meadows"?

Dave Grohl:  "OK Joe, before we even start talking about this new song, you gotta play us a little Funk 49"

I think this band sound a lot like Arcade Fire.
Whoa!!   8:15 am on a Monday morning?
Now this is classic rock!

If you've been a rock nut for decades and make up one those silly 10 best guitarist lists the amazing thing about it just might be who you have to leave off. If you did a second list it could every well be just as good a list as the first one.
This is true for me if I do favs instead of best.
However I will say the Joe gets left off too many first lists. Real deal music man.

BTW. No problem with Jack White.

I remember having heated arguments about who were the best guitar players: Hendrix, EC, Alman, Santana, Walsh, Page, etc, etc, etc.

Crazy stuff.

And who we got today? Jack White?

RIP R n R.

I saw Joe play on Bondi Beach one summer in Sydney. We wandered up to the stage as he was starting to play Rocky Mountain Way. Summers in Sydney were great in the 80s as a lot of amazing bands fled the cold of the North to play the pub circuit.

Have another listen to Jack White - as an artist this is a thoughtful, creative individual. Maybe not from your pool of credibility, but there should be no question about his participation in the rock and roll circus. Grace Slick said - "...they all bring something to the party. It's the business of the kids to stir up shit - that's the essence of Rock and Roll'. Have a listen to "Blunderbuss"; the full product. You'll hear homage to a lot of your heroes, and their influences. It's rock and roll. The real deal.

Saw the James Gang play at Winter Pop in Toronto in 1970. Winter as in Johnny Winter.  Along with Sha Na Na, Chiliwack, Steel River, and Rare Earth.

It was just packed in the Maple Leaf Gardens which I used to call Marvin Gardens.  The acoustics were crappy.  There were a number of arrests.  I remember this one young man who looked very high (speed?) flipping police around as he tried to resist arrest.

Memories of a 14-year old.

I'll be willing to bet that Lenny Kravitz was very influenced by this band / song. It sounds very much like his sound...
Yes, JG rides again!{#Motor}

Today, we have Joe Bonamassa, Derek Trucks, and a few other standouts, so I wouldn't say rock and roll is dead by any means.

Fred, I'm going to go ahead and give you a Limey's pass for this one. Joe Walsh is beloved by Americans in the way that Cliff Richard is beloved by Brits. We promise not to make fun of you guys if you promise not to make fun of us.
Did they sue Kenny Loggins for stealing the riff for Footloose?

Should be a bit more Joe on RP one of my favourite guitarists maybe not that technical but he always manages to get a sound i like. As said below maybe Meadows or Turn To Stone.

Yup, when this came out, way ahead of its time for sure, we all KNEW this was something COMPLETELY DIFFERENT, and we dug it, on a primal level, even as kids...and through the teens, the crazy stuff we got ourselves into and out of, and onward, well, this has always been one of the constant ones in any collection to make it into play on whatever was handy, and so it hooks all through all and back through again...and now, here, on my MacBookPro, Joe and The Gang have got things Rocking! just like always and everywhere, and DANG, THIS FUNK #49 STILL FEELS MIGHTY GOOD!
Always dug this tune. 8

Jeeze Fred, I'd have those ears looked at by a doctor if I were you, that sounds serious.
You can listen for Joe on 30 meter CW around 10.115 mhz .. if you can copy Morse code.
Pull out the guitars and play long.

It's a good song, but the local radio station back home played it nearly as much as it did new music, so I've heard it WAY too many times.

If I could go another 10 years without hearing it, I might be able to enjoy it again.

I'm still going to rank it pretty well, because I can't deny that it's a good song, I just don't want to hear it for a while.
When the fully multi-media iPad dictionary app comes out, I vote for this song to play when you touch "Rock &Roll".  I suspect the voting won't be unanimous, though.
Ahhhhhhhh, I remember those College day's and a little FUNK 49! {#Dancingbanana_2}{#Bananajam}{#Dancingbanana_2}
