I've just got to getcha this good job done
So I can bring it on home to you

The talented Mr. LaMontagne crushes it with R&B as well
Dropping from a 3 to a 2. This song is just uninteresting

Loving this set. Talking Heads > Lee Michaels > Ray LaMontagne
Sorry, fingernails on the chalkboard for me.
Perfect on saturday morning

Awesome get. The opening vamp is pure Dusty and "Son of a Preacher Man."

Methinks Ray done listened to mucho Otis
Totally love this!
Hmmm ... sounds good to me . . . real good
Ray needs a vacation. A looooong vacation. Sorry, just cannot get into his voice and ethos.
So this guy does have a bit of a pulse?!
Proof that even R LaM occasionally records the banal.
Totally dig Ray, way super man
Funny to hear this after the Ben Howard song and comments therein. :)
Lots of influences coming together in this fine, edgy tune; maybe that's why it's difficult to date - sounds quite 70's to me. All the same it's very listenable once in a while.
almost tom jones like
why do i always picture Tracy Chapman whenever I hear Ray LaMontagne?
Love it, my best from Sweden!
Starting to hear this everywhere. Good song but getting worn out.
i'll substitute 3 for 20 more days...in my case. but i love this song.
Definitely channeling Dusty Springfield.

Obscure reference- but I know exactly what you mean!
Dusty Springfield might ask for a cut of his sales! Very derivative- but a catchy tune never the less.

Great!!!
Ray is awesome and so is Joe I love 'em both (that lighting photo/comment cracks me up)
I have NO bad to say about this guy. Everything he does just makes my bones vibrate. Sooo good....
Love it when Ray lays the funk to his songs......oh yeah.
It's official...after all the RLM exposure, Internet and Mainstream Radio, TV commercials, etc. I am officially pronouncing: OVERPLAYED!
I like him, just not this much!

Bang on! And the voice, the voice!

It's been several months since I commented, and I've been listening to Mr. LaMontagne a lot thanks to gift CDs from my younger son.
I'll say this song sounds like Joe Cocker, due to the funky drum backbeats, and the Fender Rhodes piano and the piano playing style. Most of Mr. LaMontagne's stuff that I've heard has a different setting and doesn't sound like Mr. Cocker.
For some reason, I thought it important to report this to the group.

Whew! I was about to open myself up for a public flogging by saying he reminds me of Joe Cocker. Ray's voice isn't as rough, which may mean "not as good" in some evaluations. Both are serious practitioners of the "sing and whine and moan" art form.
Kind of a Lee Michaels/Joe Cocker hybrid.
Nice.

Well, there was your Lee Michaels comparison.
Thanks Bill, it was fun to hear the Lee Michaels tune before this... and Jelani, I think you might be right... there probably was some influence there.

I can't believe it's been four years already since this album came out! Yikes, where is the time going?!
Cracking song. But does not explain why when playing live he carries a light and sound system on top of his head.
Outstanding.
oh my goodness!! never KNEW this existed!! thanks RP
Ray is just amazing... his raspy voice, the soul... *gasp* One of the best artists around. Terribly awkward when interviewed , but a true artist... maybe that qualifies him more as a "true artist."

also check out his youtube vids. bob lefsetz (anyone else subscribe to the "lefsetz letter"?; if not, you should) turned me on to him.
Hearing this after 'Be Here Now' shows quite a versatility of style. I hear the Joe Cocker thing also. Quite Likable.

He has a brand new album out on 9th September
It's called Gossip in the grain.
I've heard and also have a couple of tracks from it with 'winter birds' being a bit special.

I cannot get enough Ray LaMontagne!! Spectacular! A friend introduced me to his music about a year ago and I am so grateful. I cannot wait to see him live!
Solid tune!

Ray is mostly unknown in Germany.
Since this is an unbearable situation, I'm trying to spread his work.
Successfully I can say....
A male Snorah Jones..
I have really warmed up to this album; I like it almost as much as Trouble now.

I'm liking this, but I bought one of his other albums and it was so depressing that I immediately sold it on Amazon.

On this one, Raycharles is channelling Otis.
That is not a bad thing.
I like this, but why is he singing about Elmore James?
Not heard of this guy before but I'm enjoying this number very much.
The day Billy Joel McAllister jumped off the Tallahassee Bridge....as sung by Traffic.
Wut can I say, I love this guy. 8
Ahhhh-yeah! Nothing like a little Ray to start the day off right. Thanks Bill!
On this one, Raycharles is channelling Otis.
The more I hear of this fine musician the more I enjoy his groove. Thanks again Wild Bill
refreshing and smooth

Hear! Hear! This song is so refreshing to hear in this town that's so full of hot air: Mayor Larry, PM Steve and his buddy Baird, Taliban Jack, etc, etc, etc.
thanks for the rayla!! as always.
couldn't stop bouncing in my chair...
great song for finishing off a friday of work...I sure am ready to bring it on home....
Very cool indeed, heard some Joe Cocker there too; first time to hear this lad, he's got a groove....

Sounds like the singer from Gomez backed by the Commitments. Me like!
This is an excellent album, just put it on my Ipod and love it !!
I just saw him last Tuesday at the Vic (Chicago). It was a great show and I would recommend him to anyone.

I love Ray! They used his music in Grey's Anatomy (or was it ER?) last night...several times.
He's hot!
'til I looked to see who it was, I thought this might be from Galactic
this is hot.
thanks for puttin' this on!!
Ole Raycharles Lamontagne, born in hip New Hampshire and living in funky Maine, could give Otis a run for his money if he were still alive.
Bill, you're awesome. This song rocks!
Can't put my finger on it but this song sounds forced.
A touch of old time soul, a little rasp, great electric piano all wrapped aroiund a farily up-to-date groove. Very nice.
