"Get down, get down, little Henry Lee,
And stay all night with me
You won't find a girl in this damn world
That will compare with me"
And the wind did howl, and the wind did blow
La, la-la-la-la
La, la-la-la-li
A little bird lit down on Henry Lee
"I can't get down and I won't get down,
And stay all night with thee,
For the girl I have, in that merry green land,
I love fair better than thee"
And the wind did howl, and the wind did blow
La, la-la-la-la
La, la-la-la-li
A little bird lit down on Henry Lee
She leaned herself against a fence,
Just for a kiss or two,
And with a little pen-knife held in her hand
Well, she plugged him through and through —
And the wind did roar, and the wind did moan
La, la-la-la-la
La, la-la-la-li
A little bird lit down on Henry Lee
Come take him by his lily-white hands,
Come take him by his feet,
And throw him in this deep, deep well
That's more than one hundred feet —
And the wind did howl, and the wind did blow
La, la-la-la-la
La, la-la-la-li
A little bird lit down on Henry Lee
Lie there, lie there, little Henry Lee,
Till the flesh drops from your bones
For the girl you have in that merry green land
Can wait forever for you to come home —
And the wind did howl, and the wind did moan
La, la-la-la-la
La, la-la-la-li
A little bird lit down on Henry Lee
La, la-la-la-la
La, la-la-la-li

I LOVE the Murder Ballards. This song is great and, yes Stagger Lee would get quiet the response here LOL!
My hubby even gets afraid when I put this album on. I can't imagine why...

Can you imagine the reponse if "Stagger Lee" or "O'Malley's Bar" got played on RP?
Not the best off Murder Ballads. What we really need here is dose of "The Curse of Millhaven".

This is not good
Nice. Sounds a little like the Handsome family. Only better.
Cave Harvey
This is a first listen for me. I like.
Nice collaboration.
cool. Now if we get "Country Death Song" we're all set.
*edit* No such luck.
love it!
beauty
Great song from a great CD
I've heard other Nick Cave songs I like better; this one ain't doing much for me.
He did write a great novel called "And the Ass Saw the Angel". Check it out if you like your fiction dark & disturbing.
La-la-lala lame ....
Sounding pretty Same-y.. hrmmm

About 20 years ago, Henry Lee Summer had a hit on the radio. That got rather grating. I don't think I would have wished murder on him, though. Maybe his career is just dead.
Goddamn this is a great set! Except for the Barenaked Pansies. Nick Cave is the Master (now that Cash has left us).
Brilliant album. One of my faves.
aaaahahahaha...Bill this is just bad....
This is great stuff. I love these murder ballads. Not exactly a toe-tapper though!

You're crazy. Murder ballads are beautifully creepy and this is a good one. I wouldn't want to hear them all day or anything, but once in a while is great.

Not a big PJ Harvey fan, but she gains cred by teaming up with the godlike Mr. Cave. Now if only the cover art didn't look like a cross between Thomas Kinkaide and Dr. Seusse!
Too bleak for me ...
Blech.
