Well I've never met anyone
With your courage
And the way your enjoy life
Puts me to shame
Just an hour with you
And I understand
Why we had to meet

I saw you look in the mirror
And adjust your hair
Smile and leave the room

Just an everyday boy
Doing everyday things
But you're somebody special
Somebody who feels
You're not the first
And you won't be the last
But you are the one
I'll remember

It's God's revenge
You're surrounded by fear
A compassionate man
You hold people dear
No blame for the mother
Who curses your name
She fears for her son
It's death by association

But you respect yourself
And you let it show
Some fade with guilt
And the shame
They way you
Tell your story
With no tears
For yourself

Just an everyday boy
Doing everyday things
You're not the first
And you won't be the last
But you are the one
I'll remember

Hey hey
Just an everyday boy
Just an everyday boy

Doing everyday things
Just an everyday boy
Just an everyday boy
Just an everyday boy
Doing everyday things
Just an everyday boy

such a pity joan armatrading is completely neglected here in europe. there was a short hype when she made her very first album, and since then ... nothing.
in fact i was convinced she did stop making music about one century ago :-)
many thanks to RP for letting me know this is NOT true.

joan has one of the most original female singer´s voices, ever, and the music is simply terrific!

Play all the Joan you can! Especially the early stuff!
I concur.

We don't get enough of Joan Armatrading.  This is new to me and I really like it.  I've always loved her voice - I'm a real sucker for androgynous voices.

Well, I submitted "Drop the Pilot" and it's still in "review."  (And now that I know the difference between Joan Armatrading and Tracy Chapman, I can post with my head held high. *facepalm*

I really like those...xylophone (?) sounds.
My first time hearing this. I have only one vinyl album of hers from college and I've apparently been missing out. This is beautiful.

Nice.  But just an FYI here from a long-time JA fan.  There are maybe 5 better songs on this CD.  "Everyday Boy" is mundane compared to
Merchant of Love, Shapes and Sizes, Back on the Road, Lost the Love, Would You Like to Dance.

Just saying.   {#Hand}

Love it, nice to hear Joan Armatrading on RP

I do believe you're confusing Tracy Chapman with Joan on Fast Cars and Smoke and Ashes, they do have a similar sound. I like the piano in this song, very Nicky Hopkins.

You are SO right!!!! Blushing furiously here... How did I make that mistake?  Um, never mind -  I think it was one too many shots of Ketel... {#Roflol}

I just love her stuff.  "Fast Car' was lame compared to some of her other work.  This, and "Smoke and Ashes" are my two favorite songs. And, if Bill will be kind, possibly "Drop the Pilot" might be on the playlist, too.

This song is just awesome - maybe it's the strings, or the words, or the tempo.... Maybe it's a combination of all of that, plus her strong, confident voice. She worked hard to get where she is, and when I grow up, I wanna be her.

Love this song. {#Sunny}

Joan is still touring, and still excellent, she held the audience in the palm of her hand at Bristol. The BBC recorded the concert, it might be available still?
Great night.

Hope my recent uploads of more of Joan's music make it through the review process...
I've been a fan of her music since the 70's and I've never heard anything from this album before, I'm giving this one an 8.

Not odd. I've always loved her strong voice as well. On this song she holds it back until the chorus, I like that.

Love the backing instrumentation on this one.  I'm not normally a great fan of Joan Armatrading but I think this is a great vehicle for her voice.

Exactly the way I feel.  Thank you for saying it better than I could.

...wow!..
Strong song, deep feeling. Love the strings. And that unforgettable voice!

Ahhh vintage Joan YES!
Oh so nice to hear this wonderful voice on an otherwise dreary Tuesday. I love Joan.
