Second time around you know it
Really got me down
Sister don't you judge it
Keep it to yourself now
If ya ain't got nothing good to say
Don't say nothin' at all

Got bitten by the bitter bug and I
Just can't get enough
Of ill will and my own conceit
I'm weary of the world it seems
I'm weary of the world
Weary of the world it seems

It's sort of always gone my way
I'm just a little bit off these days
Like I've had hard knocks all my life
Like I'm a Bible belt wife
Like I didn't see it coming
Like I didn't walk in willingly

See I never want to sing again
La la la like a butterfly
Without my wits about me
Without my heart in line
Third time's a charm
This is mine

You said you just heard Loretta sing
And you felt the loneliness seeping in
Cowboys made you uneasy
You're a God-fearing lesbian
So you learn not to yearn
And you take it on the chin again

Here's what I find about compromise-
Don't do it if it hurts inside
Cause either way you're screwed
And eventually you'll find
That you may as well feel good
You may as well have some pride

Come August we'll go to Cherokee and
Hear Loretta do her thing
Pack it into the Indian casino and
Make the hillbilly scene
Kick up our heels
And join in

Are you my ally or my enemy?
Do you have self-loathing or empathy?
Can you keep me in your prayers, sister?
Can you keep me in there somewhere?
And sister, if you ain't go nothin' good to say
Don't say nothin' at all

Interesting comment.  Are you afraid that your 'buds' will judge you adversely for liking the IG?  Or that your 'buds' will steal your IG albums?

So good live.
I remember when Amy & Emily played regularly at Moonshadow Saloon on Piedmont Rd in Atlana in the mid 80's
I simply love this song...
OK!, That's at least interesting!

Paints an image, creates a story and add a Banjer for character. I dig it.
I don't usually say nothin about the Indigo Girls, but I actually like this one.
Lame
Excellent song from that rare element - an album without filler.
Always wonderfully poetic and provoking lyrically, love the Indigo Girls.
Spartenburg, SC boys.  Just across the mountain from where I grew up in Ky.

Gonna climb a mountain, highest mountain, jump off ain't nobody gonna know....can't you see...
Love it.

Superb.  Wonderful lyrics. 9 from Bristol.  Thanks RP.
I really thought this was Bob Dylan until I looked up and saw what was playing, boy was I wrong.

An empty threat repeated periodically is funny for reasons I'm sure you didn't intend.

The easiest and most effective way to deal with songs you do not like and comments that annoy you is to a) mute and b) don't read. Most of your concerns could be alleviated in this manner. If you think that a reasonable action is to withdraw support because the comments of one person are so offensive, there is not much to be said.

Well said...  hope you are having a marvelous weekend right this minute, bam23...  this song is marvelous...  love it...

I have re-discovered Indigo Girls... and this CD is on my list of music to buy (no, not THAT list - this is a NEW list!)  They have a way of putting my feet back on the ground and helping me to remember the simple pleasures of life. (The idea of packing a cooler and a two-day suitcase and just driving into the country seems awfully good to me lately.)

miss you so much, Cynaera...

love this marvelous song...

I love the honesty and personal touch of this whole album. It totally grabs me with it's emotional strip tease.

Wow I haven't heard such a blatant rip on Bob Dylan's Tangled Up in Blue riff since Hootie and the Blowfish.

Ah...today Indigo Girls get the distinct honor of following Bob Dylan. Instant high score from me. A breath of fresh air in the slums! Thank you Indigos. This song does segue well after the previous one. Then again...any does.
"Here's what I've learned about compromise...
Don't do it if it hurts inside"

Powerful lyric, that is..

Don't the Indigo Girls do a cover of "Tangled Up in Blue"? Anyone else hearing strong similarities here?
Not really a fan of the Indigo Girls but this is indeed a great song.....

{#Clap}
Yes, it´s great.
Pretty good, a 6, but not all that memorable
I just love this song. Radio paradise is the only one that plays it......
strikes a chord ~ and she's still in my prayers...
I really like Amy and Emily's new direction. I'm a sucker for banjo, for one thing, but this has such a nice vibe overall. Makes me wanna sit on a porch with a mint julep or something.
This one's an 8. But just this one.

Make that two. And I was fool enough to buy 4 more albums before I figured it out.

A new record? Jeez, I live in Atlanta! How could I have missed it?!?

This is album is truly one of their best since Rites of Passage.  While I have loved them all to some degree, this effort has the classic harmonies  that made their fans fall in love with them!    Give it a listen!

Instrumentals remind of old "The Band," with the B3, harmonica and banjo.
I like this new IG stuff. Reminds me of Eliza Gilkyson. Plus it has a banjo: always good.
