It won't do
To dream of caramel
To think of cinnamon
And long for you

It won't do
To stir a deep desire
To fan a hidden fire
That can never burn true

I know your name
I know your skin
I know the way
These things begin

But I don't know
How I would live with myself
What I'd forgive of myself
If you don't go

So goodbye
Sweet appetite
No single bite
Could satisfy

I know your name
I know your skin
I know the way
These things begin

But I don't know
How I would live with myself
What I would give of myself
If you don't go

It won't do
To dream of caramel
To think of cinnamon
And long for you

I love Suzanne Vega... very subtle and unshowy artist who quietly writes fine tunes with great storyteller lyrics. Also, I think she is a great example in an age of vocal excess... you don't need a huge range or imperious vocal power to communicate effectively and have a good career.

Saw her in 1999 at Glastonbury and it's a bit of a regret that I've not been able to see her again since... must remedy this next time she is in my neck of the woods!

In the video of the song "Caramel" live, there cello, clarinet, bass guitar, acoustic guitar and accordion (accordion-pure). Lack mention anything? oh my, I forgot the great voice of Suzanne Vega.

It's a very nice song with lovely instrumentals. Are there only three instruments here? I hear a bass, a guitar and some kind of accordion. Can anyone clear that up for me?

Love this song, its pace, and its lyrics.  There's a version by a jazz singer named Chiara Cavello that is even better.

I like her voice a lot. My little tube amp passed away into the big electronic parts drawer in the sky, but I'm sure it would have loved this.
