Brittle little bird
Spread your dark and golden wings
Unstitched on my porch
When did I stop learning?
Such a powerful song
I heard you weeping through the walls
A scarlet fever glows
Such as the golden hands of God
Color from my eyes
Color from my eyes
Color from my eyes
Color from my eyes
A beautiful garden blooms
My dearest one
And your love carried me through today
I'll give you the moon
Dearest one
And your love carried me through today
Color from my eyes
Color from my eyes
Color from my eyes
Color from my eyes
A beautiful garden blooms
My dearest one
Your love carried me through today
And I'll wait behind the moon
Dearest one
Your love carried me through today
And we're gonna have twins
I can feel them kicking
Don't leave the water too soon
Don't leave the water too soon
Spread your dark and golden wings
Unstitched on my porch
When did I stop learning?

I heard you weeping through the walls
A scarlet fever glows
Such as the golden hands of God

I wonder what happened with this band. They should have had more longevity. It seems like they bloomed and then died on the vine, leaving no trace.
Cauliflower eyes, cauliflower eyes
This song is messy in a bad way.

How come everyone loves this song? It's terrible! It's not fun!

the whole record/story is a beautiful disaster of a torn mother/son relationship....this and E's record about his sisters suicide are examples of how tragedy brings out the creative genius in artists......one of my favorite record's in '12....

the album cover photo is their band-founder/singer/song writer etc Ari Picker's mother
Reminds me of Jon Anderson with a bit of Sigur Ros
is that a quote from the Vertigo soundtrack, in the middle?
I think she's beautiful

How very refreshing on a Monday morning... 6 --> 7. Wish this group was in heavier rotation.
Everyone east of Hampton Bays recognizes this portrait of sleazeball Real Estate broker Richard M------- (no need to name him/it, the picture says it all!!!)

Everybody in my mushrooming multitude of churches likes the title of this album for "Red" a lot...
Rolling Stone said of the album, "Ari Picker tries to make sense of his mother's suicide against a backdrop of rich orchestration, piled generously atop a base of delicate acoustic folk like heaping spoonfuls of vanilla frosting."
I really like the sound of this song "Red"... it squeezes my gizzards...

The story is actually a bit sadder than that. Ari Picker's mother committed suicide a few years ago after returning home from his wedding. Can you imagine?
He wrote the songs on this album in the aftermath of her death, with the picture of her that appears on the cover sitting on his desk.
That is incredibly sad... this is interesting and unique music, but I left it unrated until now because I had not known quite what to make of it yet... big 10...

Wow, I didn't know it went even deeper. The paradoxical gift of the muses...

The pic is his mother, who died of cancer when he was younger. The album is dedicated to her.
"Picker took the loss of his mother and set about transforming the events into a tribute, composing, writing lyrics, his mother’s picture above his writing desk: the same picture that now graces the album’s cover. “I wanted to give her a space, in the music, to be, and to become all the things she didn’t get a chance to be when she was alive.”

If you were listening to Bethnal Green in 1970 you heard great tunes
If you are listening to Peter Green today your very smart... Oh Well.

Wow, I cannot believe I've never seen this Fleetwood Mac album cover.

Yeah, I get the back story. From a purely marketing standpoint, however, this choice is hurting the group. It reminds me of this:
As a then 15-year old record buyer, I stayed clear of this for a long time. Great music inside, but I couldn't bring myself to plunk down my $7.98 for this back then.

sgood
If people think the woman on this album cover is ugly, they've obviously seen very few ugly women. Perhaps they would prefer this picture, instead:

Yes, because we all know that making music is all about the money, how to market oneself and the bottom line. I'd be willing to bet that as an adult you've found yourself asking yourself, what they hell was I afraid of that I didn't do a certain thing? What was it you feared when you were 15 about that album cover that prevented you buying it and enjoying the contents? Come on... we've all done it.

And now for something completely different.

The artwork is a portrait of singer Ari Picker's mother - herself an artist - whose heartache, depression and suicide were the inspiration behind this album (A Church That Fits Our Needs). Despite the bleak subject matter, the album is an inspirational celebration of her life - check out Golden Eyelids and This Dead Bird Is Beautiful, two of the most moving songs I've heard in a long time.
Golden Eyelids is still in the LRC queue, I'm hoping it starts cropping up soon!

Damn me to H3ll but I saw that album cover and reacted like Blutarsky when Kent Dorfman's photograph came up.
North Carolina!

(They sure could have picked a more attractive album cover, however.)
