Standin' beside of the ocean
Lookin' out across the water
Everythin' is beautiful
But I still don't feel like I oughta
Things we wanted, not so long ago
I got 'em all now, babe
But I ain't got you no more
Still I remember
The way you held me
And all the sweet things you used to say
When we were two young lovers
Dancin' the night away
I remember everythin'
Dresses you used to wear
You were so light and graceful
You seem to float right through the air
Me I looked so funny dancin'
But you loved me anyhow
Now I wish I could find somebody
To love me like that now
Still I remember
The way you held me
And all the sweet things you used to say
When we were two young lovers
Dancin' the night away
Standin' beside of the ocean
Lookin' out across the bay
I should look for companionship
But it just gets in my way
All the lights are flickerin'
Out along the shore
I see people dancin' there
But I just don't dance no more
Still I remember
The way you held me
And all the sweet things you used to say
When we were two young lovers
Dancin' the night away
Let me see you dance
Let me see you dance
Oh, babe, let me see you dance
I can still see you dance
I remember you dancin'
Oh, babe, let me see you dance
Lookin' out across the water
Everythin' is beautiful
But I still don't feel like I oughta
Things we wanted, not so long ago

This reminds me to reintroduce myself with The Amazing Rhythm Aces. Thank you, William, for playing a most excellent tune by them.
Excellent album, especially on a good sound system. My favorite band in the 70's!

There's Jimmy Buffet in the album photo cover!

nice tune bill and alanna
This isn't the same version that's on the original album. I'm curious to know where it is from, though. I bought the album when it was new and still have it. I've listened to it hundreds of times and can tell that this isn't that version.
By the way, if ya want another treat, check out the Jesse Winchester album, "Learn To Love It." It has a version of "Third Rate Romance" and "The End Is Not In Sight" sung by Russell Smith (of the Amazing Rhythm Aces)
According to Wikipedia...
"Third Rate Romance" is a song written by Russell Smith, first recorded in Montreal in 1974 by Jesse Winchester and his band the Rhythm Aces, assisted by Smith. It became a hit the following year by the newly re-formed Amazing Rhythm Aces on its 1975 album Stacked Deck. It was the band's debut single, reaching No.11 on the U.S. country singles chart and No.14 on the Billboard Hot 100,[1] as well as No.1 on the Canadian RPM Country Tracks and Top Singles charts.
And now ya know!

It was pretty weird even in 1976! Awesome album! Great to hear this song on New Years Eve. Thanks RP.
That cover art is one of the ugliest things I've seen for a while. Wow.

Liked this, and it surprised me. I saw them open for Loggins and Messina and Fleetwood Mac in 1975 and thought they were the worst act I had ever seen. Maybe it was a bad night for them.

I'd buy the album just for the cover art.
You’ll be glad you did. This is a diamond in the rough.

Quite tasty piano à la Bill Payne.
wow. that album cover is crazy.
Great under-rated band. Probably their best album too

I was thinking Randy Newman, but definitely twangy.
Kind of has that Jimmy Buffett twang.

Oak Ridge Boys’ version is good, too. Wish we heard some ORB music on RP, Bill

Lost all my Wax in a divorce back in the day. Thanks for bringing this one back to my rotation!
No you can't watch me dance, that's creepy.
I get all kinds of images listening to this song
None include a froggy on a moped
Poor froggy at least it got famous, rock n roll baby, hope the Rhythm Aces donated to a Froggy farm

It reminds me uncomfortably of what I thought was a rubber ball when dredging the bottom of my pond. I then discovered the arms and legs. It was a long-dead toad...

This music is great! Not like the stuff that you hear on the radio today.
Diamond in the ruff.
Brilliant set 3:30ish PST. "Heroes" gave me shivers and gave me pause. Some unknown gems and then this ... Sweet and soulful as always. Thank you RP
i love the aces such great music...i still have a autographed shirt from a concert i attended..what a band
From one of the greatest albums ever, Too Stuffed To Jump. Another song, Strangers on the Shore, equally great. Saw the ACES back in the '70's at the Wilma in Missoula, MT. Had beers with their lead guitarist after the show at the Top Hat. Heard Russell Smith again in the '00's with his daughter. Still great voice.
Nice surprise
Outdone youreself with this one Robert. Brilliant.
One of my all time favourite albums, cheerful and "singalong a max" style
omg what a blast from the past!
Indeed! I had actually forgotten how many hours I had spent listening to this and the other ARA albums back in the day. Feeling a bit older knowing that.
Thanks for playing this. RP never stops suprising me with depth and variety. This dusted off the memory bank. Great album. Group formed from recording session players.
omg what a blast from the past!
hoping this ends quickly
Too Stuffed to Jump! Still have the vinyl and great memories! If you like this, The End Is Not In Sight (Cowboy Tune) is another gem from the album.

Saw them live in Holton, Ks. a place called the "Jolly Troll" about 1977. Blew me away!
Too Stuffed to Jump! The whole album was wonderful and from a great time. Thanks, Russell Smith!
What a cute song!
Bland and Boring
Yee ha,
What a great tune. One of the first dances I had with my wife. Love it.

I was a big fan in those days, Brings me back to a time where I did not have to deal with responsibilities. It was greally a finer time. ARA Blasting out my VW camper bus and some cold ones in the cooler.
2nd x today where I can note my pleasure upon hearing a sweet ARA tune! totally Awesome
- funny fat toad too

Wow these guys have been around for a long time. Had them initially confused with the Rhythm Devils and wondered when the Grateful Dead guys had gone so country.
Well dang my hide, I thought this was a new folk tune. Yee Haw!
Smooth Rock.
Just right mood adjustment, I am suddenly perked up and happy as hell! Very cool boppin tune!!!
and I love the classy cover art!
