Blackmore and Lord dualling it out in the studio or on stage was a glorious thing.

Any radio station playing anything from the Machine Head album needs to be taken serioously.

Pretty good, but the drummer was lacking. Missed all the detail from the original and phoned it in. Hey, man, the toms are there for a reason.
Landreth is one of those guitarists you recognise after the first 5 notes. Such a distinct style all his own.

Early 70's, my big brother and I shared a bedroom in Brooklyn. He had an 8 track / turn table quad stereo that I was forbidden to touch.

On those rare occasions that he left his room I disobeyed and risked a beating.

Thankfully, I was never caught in the act.

Machine Head was always my first choice, followed by Workingman's Dead and Dark Side of the Moon.

More than that was usually too risky, and I didn't find ELP  worth the risk.

I think Jon Lord, the keyboardist, was trained as a classical organ player.  His training kind of set DP up to stand above the crowd in terms of composition even in a metal jam band.

A rare 10 for me-it's all there, Blackmore plays so cleanly and creatively, and the interplay with the Jon, Lord of the B3- priceless.  Roger is steady on the bass, it is well sung, well arranged, simply ageless.

One of the best RnR songs from the 70s.

For all you poor, lost souls born too late....this song was one of thousands that were played on radio, albums, 8 tracks, and cassettes. 

It was truly a  "grand buffet" of great songs. 

Today...well it's a food court in a a convienece  store.
You can practically smell the weed coming out of your speakers listening to this.

First stadium concert I ever attended in Mpls.  back  in 72' (?). Deep Purple Machine Head Tour - opening  act was some British blues band  named Fleetwood Mac. Opened up a whole new world  for me and a lot of others that night!
As good as it got for straight ahead rock, early 70's. This was the opening set list tune for a high energy cover band I had the good fortune to be involved with (Bass) circa 2001.

Ass was kicked, names taken.

Music this good deserved a better album cover. Stunning guitar and keyboard playing. The live version on Made In Japan took Lazy to a level even above this one. Extraordinary. Blackmore on a good night was the stuff of legend.

Jon Lord came and talked to us in my school church once. He was funny and lovely and secular and we listened like he was playing Hammond. He wasn't playing Hammiond. :(

As a teenager listing to this album I never appreciated this tune.  Was a little to slow to get going for my liking. But as an old guy I'm diggin it.

That intro is stunning, mesmerizing.  It could last all night and I wouldn't care.  Machine head, the first Rock and Roll album I bought at age 12, just a little junior high girl.
My first year in junior college (71-72) we wore out the student union juke box playing this, Smoke on the Water, Space Truckin'. Flash forward to April 1974 and I was at the 1974 California Jam headlined by ELP along with Deep Purple, Black Sabbath, The Eagles (with Jackson Browne sitting in), Rare Earth, Earth Wind & Fire, Seals & Crofts, and yeah, Black Oak Arkansas. The day ended with Black Sabbath, Deep Purple, and ELP. All three kicked righteous ass. I'll never forget it.

Organ opens centre, then is placed right, and guitar sits left, yet then the guitar moves to centre for a solo, then the organ re-takes the centre for another solo. When they play together they’re panned guitar (L) and organ (R.) 
rtrt, thanks for pointing that out. I must have had my left and right channels the wrong way around so I swapped them over and Richie Blackmore's guitar is coming out the left speaker and Jon Lord's organ is on the right speaker now.

I was born too late to enjoy many of the "classic" rock stars as they came out, and while I haven't yet delved into the Deep Purple catalog, I was very impressed by their RocknRoll HoF induction speeches and performance.  Not that I really care about the RnR HoF typically, although I was happy to see SMB and NWA inducted that year; the highlight for me was Ice Cube's speech about how Rap, while not a traditional form of music, does have a lot of the same "question authority" mentality as regular Rock stars, and at least on that count, NWA did push the music industry in ways never done before. 

I'm not sure what my point was here, maybe knowing I had a 7+ min track to be lazy while listening to got me off track.  I've rated this sucker at a 9....and to all of you who were around in 1972 and blazing the Js and cracking the tabs on some brewskis and hauling ass in your hot rods....here's to you for making it to 2017!  Long Live RP!!

hell yeah !  1970's rule !   usually heard  riding in my first car... 1965 Dodge Coronet 2dr, 3 speed column shifter... 8 track... probably 10w per channel... cranked it till distortion... no a/c of course... who had a/c in a car back then?  even had retread tires... best time of day to drive 4:20p

With a couple New Belgium Voodoo Ranger Imperial IPAs down the hatch and the fragrant Standard Orbit atmosphere of 'Flo' in here, this sounds every bit as good to me as it did (with the average weed and crappy beers we could get our hands on) back in the late 70s!
