A few years back my then-19 year old granddaughter expressed admiration for Florence Welch's vocal prowess. I introduced her to Airplane-era Grace Slick, and her eyes got very wide.

This is amazing. Her voice draws me in every time. 

Some of the streaming stations elsewhere kind of ruined Florence & The Machine for me by hammering "Dog Days", "You Got The Love", and "Cosmic Love" over, and over, and over.  Long & Lost is kind of a breath of fresh air.

When confronted with a confounding situation without enough information to make a well-informed decision, an acquaintance from college would usually say "well, onward through the fog".

Love the effortless range of her voice, and the deep instrumental bass .

Yeah - what if she and Hannah Reid collaborated?

It's not a judgement, OBVIOUSLY, but I can't say - like most comments I read - that it moved me to tears, because I could tell how she wasn't doing well at all, it scared me, shocked me.
There was a suggested video in Youtube with the title "Teen dies two weeks after Florence sings for her" or something like that, to round up the horror.
Yes, I'm easily impressed, I'm sensitive and over-empathetic, and I'd have liked to be warned before seeing this.

Bless that girl, she looked like a nice girl not deserving what she was going through, I'm glad she had that moment (and good taste in music, liking Florence... ;-) )

As for the SONG discussed in this thread (maybe I should have started with that), it's a lovely surprise. I really like it.

Best of the current breed of vocalists, along with Adele. Of course, Flo is far less mainstream and more innovative.

Her voice in this...

I agree with most here that this almost doesn't sound like her, and also that it is really enjoyable.

I do like some of her songs - "What the water gave me" really got to me, but none of her other songs quite did as much for me, and I really wanted to like her...
Still, even if she hadn't done this one, Long & lost, I'd still respect her having created something of her own that is powerful and unique.

This is Florence maturing and showing that she has a great voice without the earlier, more powerful and perhaps over the top delivery. Hope there is more of her like this.

I've given up on this band......can't get past her yelling that dominates the excellent work underneath her voice.  I see that it breeds empathy for all the Costello and Radiohead "discontents" out there! (with whom I completely disagree)  

Thought this was something new from London Grammar... Sad that it wasn't but I do like Florence

This is a nice album from our Flossie, with the volume turned down from the usual 11 (not that that bothers me, mind). Quite subtle and moving.

Liking this track. Is this album after  her "chick on the hood of a muscle car" album?
