The sea was large today
Just as any other day
But something broke in me
Watching on this winter's eve

Like a voice, that I'd been trying to hide
Pulled me close
And out into the undertow

I can't beat it
Oh! The sirens sing me home
Just can't release it
I didn't have the strength to go

She's a garden rose and blossoms head to toe
And even when she leaves her golden shadow stings

I can't beat it
Every time she goes, cuts me even deeper
If only I'd the strength to go
Like she does

But she's got time on her side
And she's free to decide
Because she's got time on her side
To be young is divine

And scaling the dunes to sea
Where the white wall feeds
Gets me no closer to peace
From the grips that she holds on me

Oh! I can't beat it
Every time she goes
Cuts a lil deeper
So the wound will never close

If only I could beat it
She wouldn't look away for woe
But it finds me when I'm sleeping
And wakes me in a fevered low
Like she does

But she's got time on her side
And she's free to decide
Because she's got time on her side
She's so free, it's sublime

I just wonder if I'm on her mind
As she's on mine, all the time
And I want her to know that I'm on her side
I'm on her side

The sea was large today
Just as any other day

Corporate driven?     Huh!?!!

Little people of the world!  Lock up your sons and daughters and house hold pets.  The corporations are coming to get you!  This is not a drill.

After that the smart, educated people will finish you off.  Make soup or something out of your smelly, crusty hides.  Ya can never be too careful.

You crack me up, westslope.

My contribution is that, according to Wiki, these are the "corporate" labels Future Islands has produced for:  4AD, Thrill Jockey, Upset The Rhythm, Friends RecordsLLRP!!

I like this song but I keep expecting the singer to start belting out the lyrics to "Chocolate Rain".

Such a good call, 8 straight outa the box....intrigued by the lyrics and bumped her to a 9 by the end of the song. Super great song!!
I love this song

This is the most East German-sounding band I've ever heard from Greenville, NC.

Too synth-ey for my taste
The next New Order?
Cranked up to LOUD! Bumping to a 9
Nice to hear something from Future Islands that isn't played to death.  It has a refreshing sound.  Don't play it too much, please, so I can enjoy it the times I do hear it.  :)

I have never been able to stomach Future Islands. It really feels very fabricated, corporate driven, pop.

Just did the same thing.  7 on first listen, up to 8.  I really like these guys.

You do mean 'like an adult, male human', correct?
I settled in to listen to their last LP. I was on vacation. I had it on vinyl - as it happened, at the house where I was AirBnBing. I had some previous exposure via RP, so I had recognised the album cover in the pile. Had the lyrics on the cover sleeve in my hands. You know, pretty much the ideal scenario for this listener.

Prepared to strap in for a "moment" and as has been said before...but the moment never came.

Some music is actually better to be listened to with half a brain, in headphones, at work.
7 => 8

and I cranked it up.  (Though any excuse is a good excuse to stop doing taxes....)
I love !!! So good
I am very happy that RP is giving the new Future Islands CD lots of air play.

"I'll take all of that I can get".... check out Sam Herring live.

Never posted here before. He's worth it.

He sounds more like Sebastian Cabot to me...in a good way.

Alot like LCD Soundsystem but with more interesting vocals
I could say that all their songs sound the same.  They don't, but all their songs are unmistakeably theirs.  I like them.
Great tone on the Jazz Bass!
It seems they become monotonous...  and repeat music from his old albums to a new...
First time I've heard this song, or this band, for that matter.  First impression - I like it.  Catchy tune, like the voice.  Giving it a 7 to start, will probably will go to an 8 after a few more listens.
