Standing now
Calling all the people here to see the show
Calling for my demons now to let me go
I need something, give me something wonderful

I believe
She won't take me somewhere I'm not supposed to be
You can't steal the things that God has given me
No more pain and no more shame and misery

You can't take me down
You can't break me down
You can't take me down

You can't take me down
You can't break me down
You can't take me down

Love and hate
How much more are we supposed to tolerate
Can't you see there's more to me than my mistakes
Sometimes I get this feeling - makes me hesitate

I believe
She won't take me somewhere I'm not supposed to be
You can't steal the things that God has given me
No more pain and no more shame and misery

You can't take me down
You can't break me down
You can't take me down

You can't break me down
You can't take me down
You can't break me down

I can see a place of trouble
And I'm on the verge
For the love of everybody
I need something more

Now I feel some days of trouble
I'm in the house of war
For the love of everybody
Look behind the wall

Standing now
Calling all the people here to see the show
Calling for my demons now to let me go
I need something, give me something wonderful

This song got me through divorce 4 years ago. Every time I listen to it I am reminded of that loneliness, walking back in the evening from work to an empty small apartment in a big city. After depression settled in, this song pulled me up from the darkness. I like it, but again, I am biased.
This guy keeps putting out great work. I'm amazed he's not a bigger name. Great songwriting, lyrics and a voice with so much soul and feel that he puts so many contemporaries to shame.
WOW, its nice to see RP draws sound engineers and record producers as critiquing listeners!  Jeez, I am sure everything they did when recording this was done on purpose. Michael has been nominated for everything possible in the UK it seems, the Brit Awards, MTV Europe awards, BBC Music awards. You don't earn those by putting out JANKY music. Ease up.
Horrible producer choices/mixing job on this. Having the distorted guitar solo mashed in at the same volume & sound space as the strings -- whole part of the song is mushy & grating -- a disservice to the strings as well as the solo.
I love this song and I am not a fan of the plate reverb used on the snare… its too close in frequency to the one on his voice and I feel it detracts from his voice.

I think the repetitive chorus lends a kind of a semi -gregorian chant trance. Possibly this was a feature, not a flaw.

My comment isn't  about this being meant as a feature or a flaw - you think an artist or producer would intentionally 'flaw' something?  - It's about what I find appealing or not.

While listening to this I checked to make sure audio was still set to FLAC.  This recording sounds to me as though it were lower resolution.  It has kind of a gritty sound, which I suspect is completely intentional.
New to me. Sounds good good good.

Best regards from Austria :-) I've been hearing your sender for 10 years and I am still discovering your sender! Keep up the good work and it's a relief to hear this and not all of the compromise rubbish we have here on a transmitter! Lg Best Greets from Austria :-)

Love the direct translation from Austrian speak to English.😉

Thank you for submitting MK plays. Love hearing him here on RP.

Yep. 7 to 9 for me today
This is most, most excellent
this song alway blesses my heart and soul..
I have to admit I hear a towering talent. Thanks for the introduction.
Mr. Kiwanuka is one of the best new artists. He projects absolutely impressive judgment and advice for people. His music is heart-rending. I was amazed the first song I heard, he's got his finger on the pulse.

Same here!
TOO MUCH. Give this song a month or two off.

Is this Moby's Extreme Ways slowed down by a quarter? 🤔

Exactly, I just came here to point that out, but u did it already. Besides that, it is in very similar tune with his other famous song "Cold little heart".

I saw him live in Chicago for the first time right before Covid shut everything down.  Amazing show.  So funny to think back on that night and how great of a night it was with friends even though it was so packed that you couldn't really move around easily.  Dumb Pandemic.
Shameful to still only have four Kiwanuka cuts on RP, including only one from the OUTSTANDING self-titled Kiwanuka album.

I first heard this song on "animal Kingdom" -- One of my favorite programs.  Now only on reruns.
This whole album is just brilliant just like this song's live session
a little heavy on the finish - really enjoyed the rest of it, however.

Between this song and Cold Little Heart, might just have to spring for the album.

I did!  I did!

Also bought and love the subsequent album Kiwanuka.

R&B and Soul meet David Gilmour guitar.   Works for me!

Different feeds?
Michael is extremely talented... Thanks Bill!
A lovely soulful song. reminded me a little of Marvin Gaye. But my goodness the production is poor. Why does it sound so bad?

"Can't you see there's more to me than my mistakes..."
The chord progression during the verses (Gm-F-Cm-Gm) is quite similar to the one of Kathleen Edwards's Goodnight California (Gm-F-Cm-Eb). I like it a lot!

Pretty sure that Bill's the official.
Officially overplayed, Bill.
I wish they would have toned down the background chant when the guitar solo comes in. It kind of muffles it, and I think it would have been much more dynamic...
Heard this song on one of my favorite shows-Animal Kingdom.  Love it!!
It's go that Marvin Gaye knock going on in the percussion section, voice and music blend nicely
I haven't been able to figure it out, but I don't care for his music at all. Maybe it's that 70's vibe?
Very NICE!

I think the repetitive chorus lends a kind of a semi -gregorian chant trance. Possibly this was a feature, not a flaw.

That doesn't  make it likeable, nor a feature, in the ears of some people, Gregorian-like, or not. And I believe the Gregorian reference is a looooooong stretch.
Just another fabulous reason for listening to and supporting Radio Paradise! You're just not going to hear artists like this in many other places. keep them coming Bill!

I just watched Big Little Lies on HBO this past week or two... this is the theme song for the title sequence. The imagery of the show now comes to mind when I hear this.

Actually the song they used was Cold Little Heart from this same album. A really great album. I don't begrudge either for their association- it helped expose this album, and the show had tons of great music in it. Special props to Martha Wainwright's Bloody Motherfucking Asshole!

Four months to the day today since the Atlanta show we saw. Everything now is different, in a hundred ways. I wish for that time before back. Sad days. The future is unwritten.
Last time I heard this one I thought, Wow.. I didn't have time to look up who it was.. most excellent.. There's so much music that I would never have heard if it wasn't for RP..
GEORGE FLOYD RIP NEVER FORGET

Sometimes that just works. Like here.
Great groove, but the repetitive vocal riff just kills the vibe after while, surprised that made it through the mixing process...

Joe Cocker would do this song great  too
Here, here! Initially 7, today 8.

This Dangermouse production person ought to change their name to Onetrickmouse.

bloody hell, the production on this is bad
I think it's supposed to sound like that.

The background singers sound like they are saying "Not Like Everyone Else" as an echo of the previously played Kinks song. And this guy is from Muswell Hill, as we're the Kinks. Brilliant Bill!
Now it's stopped I feel better
I'm so bored with this already.
What a great set of music. Kiitos, Bill! ("Thanks" in Finnish.)

I love the guitar work towards the end of the song.  All around great artist and exceptional track!
Every once in a while I am moved to check to see when an artist is coming to my area, this is one of those times.
Nice tune by a Muswell Hillbilly!
Bomp bada bompa etc. etc. ........
