See the moon roll across the stars
See the seasons turn like a heart
Your finest days are lost to you
This is your time to do what you will do
Chorus
Your life is now
Your life is now
Your life is now
In this undiscovered moment
Lift your head up above the crowd
You could shake this world
If you would only show us how
Your life is now

Would you teach your children to tell the truth
Would you take the high road if you could choose
Do you belive your a victim of a great compromise
Because I belive you change your mind you change our lives

Chorus

Chorus Repeat

Your life is now
Your life is now
YOur life is now

his songs always give me dyspepsia. heartburn. diarrhea. migraines. but other than that, i think they're nifty.
His last name is actually Menstrualcramp, which explains his vocal style, but his agent didn't think it would fly. That's why he went through so many names early on. Not the best song but not the worst. Fantastically average.
he's for the people. even though he's kind of a dork, he's OUR DORK. we're for the people, too, right? i gave him a 7 for being well-intentioned. at least he's not a creep like ted nugent or something. I think you've got it kinda right. I've seen JM over the years. I remember him a thousand years ago on American Bandstand as Johnny Cougar, with greased hair and all. He does seem to be trying for substance, and I think its honest - not great, but honest. Anyway I've since tried to listen to him that way and give him the benefit of the doubt. He's not the worst out there by any shot.

being played just to spite the naysayers, eh? Little Johnny Cougar has made a career out of mediocrity. Unlike Neil Young, whose genius comes across as rough hewn and unprofessional, Couger/Mellencamp/Whatever is a true bumblefudge who panders to the ignorant and unaware to earn his bread. I know somebody somewhere likes him, but I just can't stand the man and his blue collar posing. A phony who has traded on his minor talent for way too long. Makes one appreciate just how dismal "average" really is.
What?
Good song, especially since this is the guy that used to a little ditty 'bout Jack & Diane. :D

This sounds like John Cougar Mellencamp covering a bad Indigo Girls song (alright, you got me, is there any other kind of Indigo Girls song?).
Tsk, tsk. Two slams in one comment. BTW, I LIKE this song. And the video is cheesily good.

Q. Where do vegetables go for their vacation? A. Johnny Cougar's Meloncamp
Sorry, John (or is that Cougar?), you'll never be a Dylan. You just sound dorky trying to sound like him.
he's easy to hate because he's got that red-state edge. but guess what! he's on OUR SIDE. he's for the people. even though he's kind of a dork, he's OUR DORK. we're for the people, too, right? i gave him a 7 for being well-intentioned. at least he's not a creep like ted nugent or something. but i DO understand why some here might not like his actual muusick.... :daisy.gif:

Nice little ditty. I suspect that he doesn't give a shit what you think about his music.
Yea, who knows what he gives a shit about......good song, but the man just cannot carry a tune.

It always seems like John Cougar wants sooooo badly to be taken seriously as a profound songwriter. Maybe he should change his name again.

I like John Cougar Mellonhead, but this song, and especially this version, stinks. "Your life is now." "Would you teach your children to tell the truth." What???
Wake up gang!!! He dropped the "Cougar" a very long time ago. :headshake:
Nice ditty. Kind of cheesy. Sums it up rather well.
he's just kind of cheesy...

He might not appreciate the overall 5.4 rating, though--

Actually a great break from some of the overly-produced studio selections that modern listeners all expect. Nothing delivers a more deliciously imperfect sound than the north American harmonic.
When I first heard the harp (harmonica), I thought it sounded like Dylan playing

Are we listening to the same song?

Whatever. The fact remains that this song--how do you say--sucks ass.

>grrr.... this song sucks very much..... this guy can\'t >even sing or say good things!!!!!!! STOP HIM >NOW!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Doesn\'t he say something about teaching your children to tell the truth? Surely that\'s a good thing. Therefore he can and does say good things :) I don\'t think this song is that bad. It\'s not brilliant; It\'s not as good as his best material on Scarecrow, Lonesome Jubilee or Human Wheels (a great album, IMO), but it\'s not atrocious. That\'s my opinion, and I\'m stickin\' with it :) Kevin
Justlistening, you are so right. Mellencamp is great.. Many people only know his \"radio\" play tunes. I am lucky to have a friend who turned me on to his deeper cuts, etc.. and it makes me appreciate him way more then I used to.
Why do people hate Mellencamp?? This is an enjoyable song. Maybe not brilliant but leaves me feeling positive.
