I can say that I've lived here in honor and danger
But I'm just an animal and cannot explain a life
Down this chain of days I wished to stay among my people
Relation now means nothing, having chosen so defined
And if death should smell my breathing
As it pass beneath my window
Let it lead me trembling, trembling
I own every bell that tolls me
But I'm just an animal and cannot explain a life
Down this chain of days I wished to stay among my people
Relation now means nothing, having chosen so defined
And if death should smell my breathing
As it pass beneath my window
Let it lead me trembling, trembling
I own every bell that tolls me

All I can say about this song is that it's beautiful. The lyrics and Neko's voice are so powerful and lovely and clear.
Neko! Plus 1 to 9

Just wish it were a bit longer! Could definitely have listened to more :)
Wonderfully clear tone and clean instrumentation all around us. Thanks Nico! 👍

This is a lot of goodness crammed in only 96 seconds.
Neko Case thrills me to the depths of my soul, every time... Sounds perfect, coming after U2's Bad; similar vocal intensity and passion.
Hadn't rated this. A "10" will put that right.

Neko Case is one of the many artists to whom I had very limited exposure before discovering RP. Very happy I found both!

Neko's coming to Anchorage for her 45th birthday September 8th. Looking forward to that.
Everybody in my alien space craft loves this song...

I agree - Neko Case, Patty Griffin, Joan Osbourne, Melissa Etheridge, Beth Orton... They all have something in common - whiny voices. It grates on my nerves. I really wish there was less of it here. I come here for variety.
Comparing Melissa Ethridge and Beth Orton is like comparing Muddy Waters and Geddy Lee.
It sounds to me like you just don't like women singers.
I think they add to the variety and i like 'em!

I do not get it. What is the big deal? The voice is average and sounds like every other young woman singer of the last 10 years! Nothing interesting here.

A long way away from Vegas, Romeo, but we love it here, too. It's too short, though.

Wow!! A song where she actually controls her voice rather than yell it all out! This sounds really nice, she should do it more often like this...

I must say, I don't mind Bill's perceived Neko obsession...she's great.

Hooray at last!!! I hadn't heard Neko in the last 2 hours, I wasn't getting concerned because obviously hearing Neko 12 times a day on RP isn't nearly enough.

Fact is the frequency of Neko on RP has dramatically dropped since I made this comment (though I'm positive it wasn't becuase of it).
I'll bet you some big money that this station hasn't played NEKO twelve times in 24 hrs.... ever....

Very beautiful song on my all time favorite album. Thank you.
Starting to warm up to Neko... Might have to check out an album or two.
Seriously funky title to an album. Artwork goes down nicely too
'Tis good....

Really? What's on the bonus disc?
This one just arrived in the mail. It sounds silly, but the liner notes are remarkably creative. You just have to see it for yourself. It's not every day that you can comment on the artistry and photographic brilliance in the liner notes of a cd. = ) BTW, look for the special edition of this one... there's a nifty bonus disc inside with some other cuts.

I find it difficult NOT to be impressed with the music of Neko Case.

I don't feel that the lyrics are nonsensical, as much as poetic and evocative. She is a very good songwriter and a huge talent. Listen to some Richard Buckner for a similar male talent. (no disrespect intended)
Short and beautiful
Neko Case's music is just plain lovely. I esp. like her imagistic lyrics: "And if death should smell my breathing as he pass beneath my window..."
So good I could...

Oh, well, pardon all us Neko lovers for not keeping up with the trends. I hope you are being ironic. If not, then you are merely absurd. And irrelevant.

I love how this song leaves you wanting more.
i do not like neko case. at all. she's talented but does not resonate with me. at all. she does however resonate with the person i am dating, who has threatened hell, high water, and all manner of doom and gloom if i rate any neko case less than an 8....

Thank god RP plays Neko ... I've misplaced my copy of this cd, and of course that just means I crave to hear her all the more!
Upon first listen, song seemed pleasant but nothing more. Maybe it\'ll grow on me ...
Lovely song ... lovely album. I hope to hear more of Neko Case in the future.
Yesss, nothing but positive comments. The whole album is so good in so many ways. I hope Neko makes loads of money from it now and down the road. Go Neko
Great album indeed, got fue to RP. Also got the live in Austin album too...amazing voice.
This is a 10.
Ahh, Neko.
Everything this woman touches turns to win and awesome.
It's a great album, to be sure. I just can't resist that voice.
