I used a calling card of a pay phone
From the other coast
Just to tell you how good it was to hear you
In those songs you wrote

They made me think there was something coming
Really something worth waiting for
Blah, blah, blah... they talk about, oh oh

Every dial tone, every truck stop, every heartbreak,
I love you more
Looking like you just woke up from making songs,
Shooting satellites that blew up the pay phones...
Singing we'll all be together,
Even when we're not together
With our arms around each other,
With our faith still in each other

I've got calling cards
From 20 years ago.

Neko here preceded by Ray Lamontagne. Crazy coincidence as that was the double bill I saw in Boise in 2018 where they kicked off their tour.

Crazy how she can paint an emotional picture in a 2 1/2 minute song.  Short, beautiful and emotive.  Now that is talent in my book.

Lovelovelove Neko. I owe RP money for turning me onto her...I don't listen to country music much but Neko has the perfect for it.
Good Tune!  I will always think of her sitting on the hood of a 1968 Mercury Cougar! LOL!
A favorite. Thanks William.
I'm normally somewhat critical of her approach to lyric writing; I find them too obtuse, obscure and generally weird.  But this song nails it; beautiful on every level.

Sublime
Covid gives this new resonance.
I LOVE this woman's voice. Brings chill bumps to me every time I hear her sing. The music, lyrics, all of it is just stunning.

Same here.  One listen to Deep Red Bells, and I was hooked.  I didn't enjoy her last couple of albums as much (Fox Confessor and Middle Cyclone), but I think she may be back on track with this one.

Not a favorite song at Playboy enterprises.
My Favorite Neko song.

Love, love, love Neko and only get to hear it on RP, thanks Bill!! I hope Neko sends you Christmas cards{#Wave}

Came to post basically this.
This is a beautiful song, gets better every time I hear it.

I agree with all of you who suggest that Neko is brilliant, as is this song and her new album. Any idea who she's singing about? I could only  speculate ...

In an interview posted on The New Yorker's website, Neko says this song is about dealing with the grief of losing three family members--her parents and her grandmother--and getting better. She says it's not so much about grief but about losing your human skills when you're going through a depression.

The video is there, too.

I think it's about either Wilford Brimley or Ernest Borgnine.  Quite a good tune, at any rate.  I had calling cards back when they were around.
More quality tuneage courtesy of Ms. Case.
So BEAUTIFUL!

And just today posted as a "Tiny Desk Concert" on NPR.  Check out Neko the gorilla.

Something about her just draws me in.
I gotta stop and listen.
Even when the lyrics sound like "Blah, blah, blah..."
