Maybe you have a really short commute I'm debating on getting an iPhone or a Blackberry for internet radio in the car and just the internet wherever I go. I've had my current cell phone for like 5 years and now that I actually have an income I feel I can afford the upgrade. Having both The Loft and RP in the car My preferred in-car listening setup is a 3G WiFi router (with a Verizon data card) + an iPod Touch. That way I can listen to RP via the iPod, and connect to the web on my laptop (or multiple laptops/iPods if I have passengers), all with a single data account. Verizon's network is also faster & more reliable (at least in my opinion) than AT&T's. The best 3G WiFi router I've tested is the Cradlepoint CTR-500 ($179 from Amazon). That coupled with a USB data card from Verizon, Sprint, or AT&T ($50 - $60/mo) & an iPod Touch is the ultimate in-car listening setup. Of course, if you want to listen away from your car & home, an iPhone or a multimedia Blackberry is the way to go. The iPhone is by far the better performer for web radio, but the Blackberry Curve & Bold are OK also (I hated the Blackberry Storm that I tried).

The Loft is my station of choice when my daughter takes her laptop away from me and I can't stream RP through my stereo. It's part of my DirecTV package. Its the best thing out there after RP (but a quite a bit behind).

Radio_Dweeb wrote: I would disagree, Spectrum is like your straight forward AAA station that follows the charts and repeats currents like twice a day. The Loft is way more like RP then Spectrum, maybe the set you heard was "countrified" but I've heard genres across the board. It just depends when you tune in. Mike Marrone does great morning sets and Meg Grifin goes somewhat "disorder" during her afternoon drive shift. Very seldom do I tune in and it isn't interesting.
The Loft, Deep Tracks and Underground Garage are about the only music channels that keep me interested. I love many genres of music but Sirius managed to either delete them (Fine Tuning, deep electronia, Spanish, etc) or just dilute them (Chill, classic alternative, alternative, indie, etc) to the point I can't stand them for more then a day. Sad really. On the talk side I listen to NPR, BBC World Service, World Radio Network, XMPR, America Left, ACC Sports, MLB Homeplate and such.
See, I wouldn't know, because I've listened to RP pretty much exclusively for the past 6+ years. And I don't listen to the Spectrum all that often, because there's only so much Jack Johnson I can take. Being a Sirius subscriber, I wouldn't know what XM listeners have lost. It seems the merger is to Sirius listeners' gain. Our favorite channels have stayed, and only one (The Vault) has been replaced. Deep Tracks seems a little deeper than The Vault was.

We have satellite radio in the car, and by chance today Allan tuned into the Loft — which is new to us as Sirius subscribers — so we listened for a few songs. It sounded pretty countrified to me. I'll try to give it more time. If there's anything like RP on Sirius, it's the Spectrum, which is on channel 18. But we have RP playing in the house, so in the car we switch between Classic Vinyl, First Wave, and Deep Cuts (formerly The Vault) and sometimes Classic Rewind if we need a Journey fix. On road trips we like to listen to the comedy channels.
