Victor unconsciously echoes the terms of his experience at the age of fifteen when he witnessed lightning shatter the venerable tree at the Frankenstein's summer house near Bellerive: "I never beheld anything so utterly destroyed" (I:1:22). His premonition of the destructive power of the vital force he would employ for creation here realizes itself with ironic power.

In the category of "They don't make them like this anymore"; there is a man I know or am acquainted with who happens to be a pretty famous guy in some circles, and he turns 97 years old on Thursday. I'm thrilled and honored to have had the opportunity to get to know him a little these past few years, mostly through his association with some very close friends. He is a most humble and delightful man and a love monster of the first sort.

There was to be a party for him and I and a close friend and collaborator was going to present some musical arrangements and improvisations based on everything from The Cure to standard hymns from the protestant hymnals. Not much rehearsal so I was really looking forward to some magic. Fritz is a music lover of the first sort and I was really excited to play and sing well.
He has apparently come down with a case of bronchitis so it has been called off for now.
