Stephenson's last book, Reamde, was fun and interesting but he ended it badly IMO. Absolutely worth reading for the first 90% of it but he telegraphs his own spoilers and the Hollywood end ... I just chewed my way through it.
 
His new one, Seveneves, comes out next month, and I am looking a little squinty-eyed at it, too, but can't help getting giddy over reading the first 26 pages here. Warning: I will buy (or hope the library gets it) this immediately. If you're a science and word-geek* like me, you will be in line, too.
 
*Stephenson does love to create new words or redefine old ones. Or imagine new or better etymologies for common words... a lot of times I think his imagined etymologies are probably closer to the truth than what's accepted in dictionaries. I wonder if he's gotten any dictionaries to change...
